  1. Hi, I wanted to get shot of my Honda 2022 civic hybrid with 13240 miles on the clock. This is the px and buy it now offers I got. Toyota £19890, in px with a Toyota rav 4. We buy any car £22400 without seeing the car, so would be less when they did see that the car had had the radio turned on. Mercedes £23000. In px on Mercedes estate. Independent skoda dealer in London £22000 in px on skoda estate. A number of skoda dealers offered nothing at all in px stating that they could not underwrite the Honda. Big buys cars £25000 without seeing the car. Motorway £27600 and purchased the car. The Honda is now for sale at a Honda main dealer for £31900. And the pictures still show the stone chips at the front not painted. I purchased the car from Honda main dealers, ex demo with just over 300 miles. Price paid £29500. So the car is over a year older with 13000 miles extra on it and its more money then when I purchased it, and in deed newer cars of the same spec with only hundreds on miles on the clock.
  2. Hi, my 22reg car as two small USB ports in the centre console. Can anyone please let me know what type they are, the manual just says. USB. Thanks
  3. Please explain to me how a radio can course the car to go into limp mode. Surly this is down to a drop in current and relayed by the can-bus.
  4. Not at all, as stated can-bus throws up all sorts of problems. Andvghr only reason it's there is to cut down in wiring for car manufacturers. And of course the other problem is the very poor quality of the wire being used in the wiring looms and the over use of plastics.
  5. Can-bus is a big problem for motorists. In America manufacturers are using it force owners to buy new filters for carbon reduction, miles before a new filter is needed. Air conditioning is switched off, or power steering is reduced. This is costing motorists thousands of dollars extra a year as garages need to fault find endless error codes not related to the real problem. I remember my next door neighbour had a Land Rover discovery which went into limp mode when it wanted. It cost him over £5000 to find out it was the radio at fault. All down to can-bus.
  6. As all these systems run on the can bus system it’s totally possible for the EPC light to come on due to use of the DRG in manual mode. The use of Can Bus saves the car manufacturers a bit of money by reducing the amount of wiring used in a car, but the linking of totality unrelated devices to each other makes fault finding so much harder.
  7. Hi, I would not hard wire your dash cam in if the Skoda is under warranty. I have known dealers refuse the warranty claims if the car’s wiring as been interfered with.
  8. Sad, but I see what you mean. From what I have read and there is even a few videos on utube about this. Bolts giving way are a problem with the 1.4 engine. However a £1000 bill is a killer. And most car forums have their share of manufacturers pigeons on them. You should try Honda. Just be a bit thick skinned and block the fools. Michael
  9. I remember in the late 70,s a mate at work purchased a Skoda. My girlfriend at the time worked for the RAC and she was able to get some headed paper. One of the girls at work, typed out the letter which went along the lines that the RAC had been informed that Mr ? Had just purchased a Skoda and therefore the RAC had no option other than cancel his membership. he was so upset that he bought the letter into work. After ribbing him for an hour or so, we told him the truth. How times have changed. mind you in this current mad culture we now all live in, most of us would of been sacked for upsetting him.
  10. After doing a bit of research on these gearbox’s and talking to my brother who as over 67,000 miles on his VW with the same gearbox, I think it’s a bit of a lottery if it goes wrong or not. I think however I will get the extended warranty taken out when it’s time.
  11. It’s a pity but yes I think all car manufacturers have been forced to not only invest in very untested in real life situations by governments pushing unrealistic green targets on them, but also costing for profit. One only needs to see the amount of plastic used for major engine components in today’s BMW,s to witness that fact. Before I purchase the Honda I did look at Toyota with their 10 year warranty. That was until I was informed that it’s up to the dealership is they will honour the extended warranty or not. And most will not, and that goes for Kia also. I know that Honda had massive problems with their 1.5 turbo direct injection engines. However this was mainly in colder country’s. But being an engineer I have never been impressed with butting small turbo engines into cars. Over pressure direct fuel injection may give extra bhp, but at the cost of reliability. it’s a sad reflection on the car industry and customer rights that manufacturers can produce products that only hold out until a week after the warranty runs out.
  12. Just over a year ago I purchased an ex demo Honda civic hybrid. This car has a 2lt petrol engine and two electric motors. Rated all together at 181 bhp. I owned the car for a few weeks over a year and covered 13400 miles in it. The good and the bad of Honda ownership. Well at around 5000 miles I had an oil check light come on. This happened at night in the middle of nowhere somewhere near Lincoln. After crawling along to find a place with some light, I found that the oil level was ok. The warning light I was told was just a nod to the fact that the Honda 1.5 engine had oil problems, well more like over fuelling problems leading to oil levels to rise as fuel found its way into the sump. After that all was ok. I found that the drivers seat was to my mind starting to flatten and was not so comfortable a few miles before. Resetting the electric handbrake and turning of the various line assisted system each time was a bit of a pain on short journeys ( the lane assist could pull the car into parked cars at times, great on motorways but not much else) . Now the civic did have a reasonable turn of speed and being light was easy to drive. The Led headlights not so good has the BMW system, but ok. The sat-nav was ok, but not great and I used apple car play most of the time. Come the civics first service and I found the 0 to 20 oil cost £90 a gallon. But the service was less then expected at under £300. Then it all went pair shape. I had to make a journey of a 100 miles from my home in Somerset to wantage. Driving along the 303, just got half way and the steering became harder to turn from the 12 0 clock position. Then it would go back to normal, then hard again. I stopped, checked all I could, could see nothing and carried on abet slower. On returning home, I contacted my local dealer, who did not want to know, I contacted Honda U.K.. who put it down to being left hand drive. I found out that this model of civic comes complete with a steering problem at just over 11,000 miles and at speeds above 55mpg. In fact two drivers in American have been killed due to this fault. An on going legal action is going on about this issue. However I found out that Honda as not issued a recall on this and until they do, their dealers can just refuse to do anything. What a position to be in. We all know that it’s illegal to sale a damaged car in the U.K. unless it’s listed as damaged or faulty. But I would lose most of my money. In the end I asked an old employer of mine to step in and being a legal expert I was able to get Honda to take the car back. So much for Honda being a safe bet for reliability.
  13. I have always been a BMW driver. That was until the latest BMW 5 series. I purchased the 2021 530i touring with only 800 miles on the clock, and 3 months old. After a few months without fault, the rear hatch would open on its own when parked up. I took it to my local BMW dealer who after having the car for two weeks stated that they could not fix the problem. After a shouting match in their showroom making sure that all around knew that the dealer could not fix my car after 2 weeks and this left me with a car in which the rear hatch would open at will allowing thieves and the weather to have a great time. However i had the right to return the car as unfit for purpose and that’s what I did. I had to contact BMW UK to get the dealer to hand my money back however. Then I moved to Honda, but their new civic has a major steering fault I find out to my cost. So that had to go. Now I am trying Škoda, which I hope will be a safe bet. I think that manufacturers are being forced to make their cars meet silly unrealistic emissions targets along with trying to make the cars cheaper to manufacture which is causing most of the problems. Even the copper wiring in todays car is not true copper but a cheap alloy which breaks down over time leading to lots of electrical problems for owners. Best to keep things simple to my mind.
