BCM update
Just dropped off my Karoq for a service and they said they were going to be doing a BCM update, part of a national free campaign. I may ask a bit more on my return but wondered if anyone else knew about this? My ears peaked when they said 'national' and 'free', which made me think this is fixing something that would otherwise potentially become quite messy for Skoda. The way it was described, it didn't even sound as though it was necessarily restricted to just Karoqs.

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2024/2025
No the volume is the same as before, I would typically get over 400 traffic reports within around 30 secs of starting the car. I'm getting the same volume now, but it's taking way longer to get the same amount of data. Plus it just seems a bit too suspicious that this happened after a map update, but I may just be putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5.

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2024/2025
Well, no improvement following the reboot, still taking a good 3-4 minutes for any traffic data at all to be pulled in. It may not sound like a lot, but it essentially means sitting in the car with the ignition/engine on, waiting for it to start pulling in traffic data before setting off on a journey, otherwise you can end up going directly towards a road closure, etc. Very frustrating! Since the change seems to have coincided with the map update, I am going to try rolling back to the previous map version to see if this fixes the problem. I can't think why it would, but worth testing. Will report back.

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2024/2025
Hello again - I posted this new thread: However I was thinking today that one thing that has changed since I last drove the car and used Skoda Connect is that I have updated the maps to the latest version. Could that be the cause of an increased delay in receiving traffic updates each time I start the vehicle? Is there some kind of cache that needs clearing or re-setting, etc. after a map update?

Traffic data taking a long time to appear (Skoda Connect)
Short version Skoda Connect is taking a long time to pull in traffic data. At least 3 minutes for anything, and then longer for the full data which includes the red/amber/green traffic status of individual roads. Is anyone else experiencing this much longer lag recently? Long story I have been using Skoda Connect together with a CarStick and PAYG SIM for a year now and it's been working fine. It pulls in lots of traffic data within a minute or so of starting the engine. Data usage on the SIM has been ridiculously low - in one year it's cost about £8 of credit thanks to the now no longer available O2 Classic PAYG tarriff. However, I didn't drive for one month, and it's ended up causing me quite a headache. First, O2 deactivated my SIM card, which took several days of phonecalls to get reactiviated and to regain access to my credit and online account. Secondly, I had purposefully allowed Skoda Connect to lapse, with a view to renewing it for a further year once I was back driving again. I have since renewed it, and expected all to work smoothly as before, but now there is a long delay of getting traffic data of any sort (~3 minutes before seeing things like road closures, and longer for the full data including the red/amber/green traffic status of individual roads, all of which I used to get prior to all this). It seems that I can trigger it into pulling the data more quickly, simply by going into the Skoda Connect menu and accessing some kind of online service, e.g. News - it's almost like this coaxes it into action, but it seems ridiculous that I should have to do this every time I start the car. I've tried a different SIM card with no difference in performance. I've also tried de-registering and re-registering the car to Skoda Connect, and even uninstalling and re-installing the MySkoda app, all to no avail. The car is going for a service in a couple of weeks, and on the phone the garage said it's due a software update. I have no idea if this is accurate or not - I thought I had installed the latest software thanks to a fellow BriSkoda member last year - are they really releasing new software for a six year old Karoq?

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2024/2025
Skoda came back yesterday to ask me to try downloading and extracting ECE 1 again and it seems to have worked without any errors now. Not tried it in the car yet, but touch wood the issue has been resolved by Skoda.

Upgrading from 16GB to 32GB sat nav SD Card - anyone done this?
Yeah I've never bought anything from that site before and suspect most things on there are cheap knock offs. I see some cards on Ebay, which as a website I trust more since they have a returns process that favours buyers, but again not sure I'd be getting the real deal. Then there are some bespoke sat nav card websites - would be interested to know if anyone has bought off of these. I understand you can't just buy a blank card and 'make' your own?

Upgrading from 16GB to 32GB sat nav SD Card - anyone done this?
I'm still waiting on a solution from Skoda regarding the corrupt ECE 1 map files (see thread: However, I've always fancied the idea of upgrading from a 16GB to a 32GB SD card to allow me to install the ECE A1 maps (pan-Europe). Does anyone have experience of a reputable source of a 32GB card? I know I can't just buy any old SD card, it has to be a Skoda one. I imagine the dealers charge a silly price, right?

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2024/2025
What do you mean, better resourced? Aren't they just the same map files being released across VAG? Why would they go to the effort and expense of creating 3-4 different versions of the same thing? Anyway, I had an update from Skoda - they tried to direct me to a Skoda retailer (suprise suprise, where have we heard that before?) until I kept insisting that it was nothing to do with my vehicle, it's about corrupt map files. They eventually directed me to email [email protected] which I have now done. Awaiting further response...

Good to know it's not a problem at my end. Just emailed Skoda customer services about it, let's see what they say.

Traffic Management System
The full thread is here: TLDR: TMC has been switched off for Skoda (and other brands) and is not coming back. You need to use one of the workarounds described in the thread, some of which are quite technical, others not so much. My own solution is described here:

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2024/2025
Well Skoda has released the same map files as linked above (ECE 1 2024/2025, valid since CW 25/2024) and I have exactly the same file error when unzipping, both in Windows 11's default app and using 7-Zip. The aforementioned ROUTING.NDS file appears to be corrupted. Would be helpful to know if anyone else experiences the same issue. I want to try the Europe wide map (ECE A1) to see if it has the same issue, but unsure if I could just use the ROUTING.NDS file from there instead - does anyone know what this file actually does and if they are interchangable between different map sets?

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2024/2025
Can disregard this, the Skoda site seems to work again now and lists ECE 1 2024 (valid since CW 45/2023) as the latest map version. The problem I highlighted in my earlier message about an error when unzipping the file still remains. I may just wait for the official site to be updated and carry the new map version.

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2024/2025
Interestingly (worryingly?) I am now getting this message on the official map update site: "There are no map and software updates available for this VIN". Seems coincidental that this message has coincided with a recent map update, because I only checked it a few days ago and there was map data available to download.

One of the files in the Skoda download (ECE1) keeps failing to extract: routing.nds Have tried extracting using the default Windows 11 extraction tool and also using 7-Zip and get the same result.

Ah, false alarm - it seems to be working again now. For a while I thought Skoda had pulled the plug on Amundsen MIB2.

Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2024/2025
I just checked the Skoda update portal (https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/) and entered my VIN and got this message: "Information on this VIN was not found." First time I have seen this, I'm hoping it's a bug but concerned that this may signal the end of free map updates for my vehicle (68 plate Karoq). Anyone else with a similar era vehicle able to check? I'm hoping it's just a temporary bug...

MIB2 Amundsen - alternative 'fix' for loss of TMC service
Yeah I tried the free month first to see if my 'solution' would work, and I was pleasantly surprised. You're right, a lot more traffic data than was ever supplied via TMC, I assume that's down the lack of bandwidth available over radio vs mobile data. I didn't like the mobile tethering option as I think it required me to have my mobile hotspot turned on all the time so that I could step in and out of the car without having to think about it. Otherwise you have to manually turn it on each time. With my CarStick it just sits there and connects within about 30 seconds of turning on the ignition.

MIB2 Amundsen - alternative 'fix' for loss of TMC service
Yes that would make sense, except I've driven up and down the country and it's never displayed anything other than 3G. I don't think it's the SIM card as you can't even buy 3G SIM cards these days, and the CarStick states it's LTE/4G. So I think it's probably just an oversight in the car's software, in that it can't distinguish between 3G and 4G connections.

MIB2 Amundsen - alternative 'fix' for loss of TMC service
My understanding is that having no data connection would prevent you from obtaining any live traffic data, regardless of whether or not you're subscribed to Skoda Connect. This is because the fallback of the TMC service via radio signal has been shut down, so there's literally no available source of traffic data. It should be very easy to test the SIM card slot in the vehicle that has one - just pop a SIM card in and see what happens! You'll know if it's connected or not because the red globe icon at the top of the touch screen should change to white to indicate a data connection, and you should be able to access the various Skoda Connect services, such as news, weather, etc. On mine it also states '3G' next to the white globe, although I am fairly sure it's actually connected by 4G as both the Carstick and the SIM are 4G. At least I hope so, since 3G services are being shut down in the UK! Although I stated in my original post that I would switch to a pay monthly SIM, the PAYG SIM has lasted far longer than I anticipated because so little data seems to be used. I think I've used just £1-2 in PAYG credit in all that time.

MIB2 Amundsen - alternative 'fix' for loss of TMC service
For anyone with a MIB2 Amundsen that has lost TMC traffic updates, it seems as though there is no fix coming from Skoda, and the ‘unofficial fix’ will mean having to choose between up-to-date maps with no traffic data, or out-of-date maps with traffic data. Neither appeals to me, so I have gone down a different route. This won’t be for everyone, but just putting it out there as an alternative… Traffic data can obviously be obtained via Skoda Connect, so I signed up for a free 1 month trial to test its functionality. I have to say the traffic data seems superior to TMC, with much more traffic information being made available, even on very minor roads. I understand it then costs £44 a year which, considering Skoda map updates are free, I can personally justify. Slightly harder to justify is the purchase of a Skoda Carstick LTE, since you will struggle to find the real deal for less than £100. However, I wanted to have a data connection in my car without mucking around with mobile hotspot tethering every time I get in/out. This in turns requires a SIM card with available data. I’m unsure how much data this will use on a month-to-month basis, so I started off with an old PAYG SIM to gauge what I actually need long term. I intend to replace this with a cheap pay monthly SIM (e.g. < £5.00 per month) that provides just enough data. Finally, since I didn’t want the Carstick standing vertically upwards in front of my gearstick, I purchased a short right angle USB male-female cable from eBay for about £3. This allows me to have the Carstick laying down flat and out of sight. Overall, I can say this is working pretty well. When I start the car, the data connection seems to establish automatically, and traffic data is pulled down within seconds. Attached pictures for people’s reference.
