  1. Morning everyone, I need some advice regarding an issue on my Fabia 1.4 petrol AUB engine year 2000, every so often the engine seems to misfire, the oil engine light comes on and the rev counter stops working. Checked the oil level and is ok, I noticed that under the engine oil filling cap a yellow paste deposits forms, my mechanic suggests that the cause could be that the car is only used for short journeys not giving the engine to get rid of condensation created in the top part of the engine. As I restart the engine everything goes back to normal???????????? Any suggestion advice is welcomed, Regards
  2. Great discussion going on, what I understand now is that I can remomove, clean the TB and refit it . I haven,t the software for resetting it but I am sure that if you disconnetct the battery long enough, the ECU will loose all the learned values. When you reconnect it the ECU should read the new value and set all the components to run with the new setting. I have never done to my Fabia yet , but I will after cleaning the TB. Whish me luck

  4. Hi , I have a 1.4 16v fabia 2001 I'd like to clean the TB myself but I understand that after you remove it you need to reset the unit and I do not know how to do it. Can you advice? thanks
  5. Hi every one, I am looking for advice. I have a Fabia 1.4 16v year 2001 engine AUB. The ECU warning light is been on and off for about 3 months, no noticeable problem experienced with the car. Had it checked with the garage.....no problem found. It "finally" turned permanently on, about 3 weeks ago,The only symptom I than notice was with the engine cold, It would start fine then after 2 minutes, it start idling erraticly for about 40 seconds then run fine for the rest of the day. Took it to the garage where they connected the diagnostic and detectet 3 faults:EGR valve, and both lambda sensors. Could not afford to have it fixed so decided to carry out further investigation myself. This is what I have found: Oil contamination in Air filter Throttle chamber also contaminated with oil and soot Try to gather more information about the cause of these findingon this SITE and decided to give a good clean to the EGR Valve and pipe going into the throttle body. Managed to remove and clean EGR and associated pipework and really struggled to refit it in place, definitely needed a 3rd arm. I disconnected the ECU for about 30 minutes then started the car hoping the problem was sorted, ECU light came back on immediately, after the initial idling adjustment the engine sounded fine, took it for a ride and notice a bit lack in power. I would like to try to clean the throttle next but I am afraidf this will require resetting of the unit once is been disconnected and I cannot afford to take it to the garage. I also would like to remove the oil separator unit at the back of the crankcase, to check if it 's clean, unfortunately the haynes manual do not describes the procedure. Can anybody help?? Finally I am thinking of getting vagcom, I have found some affordable offers on ebay but I am a bit confused by the difference in costs between ross-tech and the one offered on ebay. Any advice is welcome. Thank for your time Regards
  6. Hi, I have tried to remove the engine cover on my fabia 1.4 16v 2001 , but not sure on how to do it, do you have anymore advice or immages on how to proceed? Thanks
  7. I hope you are right, Ken thans for your time
  8. Hi Ken, I do not think I Have cured the Kickback issue, I think I have just disabled the ABS system by unplugging the connector from the wheel sensor. The problem started just after the garaged did replace the two front suspension bushes, of course they do not think so, but I am sure that during this work dirt or damage to one (Hopefully) of the sensors or wheel rings is causing the ABS system to be activated erraticly. As soon as the wheater will improve I will have a good look at both sides, in the mean while I am thinking of a way to plug my multimeter in the pick up sensor , hoping to see a resistance which should change as the wheel rotate. I am hoping the system uses the "Hall Effect" in order to detect rotation of the wheel ring. I shall let you all know. Does anybody know if the pick up sensor are coming off their slot easy or will I need to soak them with lubricant??????? Any advice is welcome. Thanks
  9. thanks for your reply Stu, No there are no more symptoms, the actual problem got worse 2 days ago when the ABS activated itself when I was braking without turning, I definitely think it is one of the sensors going faulty or the wheel ring sensor damaged. Unfortunately the garage (Phil Wilks in Durham) did not find any evident faults and suggested to replace the front wheel ring sensor + abs sensor on one of the front wheels whit the hope that it would cure the problem if not replace the other one and so on at the cost of 187.00 per side.................... I was not happy about it and drove quickly away, I did disconect the connector to the sensor in order to disable the ABS cosequently i have the normal braking system working fine apart fromthe warning light on the dash board. I am going to take a look myself to the sensors and possibly repace them both. Any advice is welcome. Grazie Mille
  10. H i everyone, I have a strange fault with the ABS system: It started just after the garage replaced the 2 front suspension bushes. Initially, When fully turning right and breaking at the same time, the brakes pedal starts to judder and I can ear the ABS activating. After few days the problem occurred when braking whithout turning (quite frightening) took the car to the garage (Phil Wilks in Durham), and after 2 days of investigation, they did not find an evident problem and suggested to replace the wheel bearing + sensor on each wheel, starting on the n/s/f side front wheel at the cost of £187.00 :irked: each, worst scenario the fault it is going to be on the last wheel, costing me £800.00:mad: . Very quickly drove away from the garage and decided to disable the ABS by unplugging the front sensor plug, which consequently did bring up the ABS and ESR warning lights. Car is braking fine now, but I wonder if it is safe untill I resolve the ABS Issue. Can anybody advice on this matter,? Could this problem been caused by the garage, when they replaced the front suspension bushes? Thanks for your time.
