  1. I have spoken with Bluefox about this and we were both shocked to read this thread.............

I am however seeing a common theme here though, re-mapping / chipping the cars seems to have an effect surely?

Partly agree. The remap will have something to do with it, but I don't drive my car irrationally so I blame a lot on the previous owner  My friend has got a Passat 51 plate with the same engine and his clutch went of at 105k

  2. You'll be pleased to know that when I had my last car Mr Clutch said they only use OEM quality parts from sachs or LuK for VW/Skoda etc.

IIRC they are the same people that make the skoda ones anyway, so it should see you well for a good while.

Guy in the service said it's going to be the original clutch and flywheel which I didn't really believe, but it's good to know that it's true

  3. I wouldn't worry so much on the clutch judder unless it gets really bad.

Sounds like Mr Clutch did a good job, keep us updated with how it goes... assuming you're 20vT is standard, yeah?

Correct! 1.8T with remap to 194bhp.

Now I must return to Mr Clutch every 5k miles to get the clutch checked. The warranty is 20k (or 2years) so it's worth doing. Also I'll get some peace of mind :)

  4. Yes definitely clutch, I had the same symptoms in my 5 about 12 months ago... it'll drive for about another 500-1k miles before it lets go I imagine.

However running it around at this point will ruin your flywheels surface and end any chance of a cheap plate+disc only change...

It was recommended by my friend to change flywheel together with cluch, but again I don't know much about these things. How much did it cost you?

  5. Hi guys,

Since Christmas I have this weird, almost like burning, smell coming out of my engine bay. It's coming out of something next to the turbo (clutch?). Also sometimes I when I release the clutch and accelerate then it only builds the revs, then they drop and then it starts accelerating. I think it could be clutch ... can anyone confirm that?

If it is clutch, do you know how much it is to replace it?

    Thanks,

    David

  6. Thanks for the help guys.

I'm not that 'heavy foot' drive, but since I had my car re-mapped it's a bit 'uncontrollable' when accelerating. 1st gear is nightmare regardless road, 2nd gear is much better but still spins through and on the wet road it spins through the 3rd gear when accelerating hard.

Temporary fix for this is to get one person on the passenger seat, just to add a bit of weight :-)

No doubt that Skoda / VW done this car for exact 150bhp as anything above it's not so safe.

  7. Hi guys,

This may be a silly questions for some of you, but I'm not that technical when it comes to car so any help will be appreciated.

I have 02 Superb 1.8T without traction control and I'd like to get one retro fitted if possible. I never felt that I need it, but since I had my car re-mapped I would do with TC.

Do you know if it is possible to retro-fit TC and if it is, what is the cost?

    Thanks

  8. No, it's not really as it'll leave a bit of a film which isn't so good for electronics.

Just some kind of electrical contact cleaner will do the trick, we sell our own branded version which is pretty good. As long as you can stand the smell.

If it's not good for electronics I must be lucky that it's still working  What's the OEM brand name / product name?

    Thanks

  9. Lol, what?? I get about 48 @ 120mph*... the faster I go the better my consumption gets. Still, that's with a Skoda speedo not GPS, so I was obviously only doing 50mph.

    * On private land, I'd like to add.

I've never seen 48mpg on my maxidot . The best I've ever done was 40.1mpg on an hour journey @ around 50mph ... and that was one off :D
