  1. Thanks for the warning, just taken a photo of version information👍
  2. Thanks for your input. Hopefully if it's just an update required that will get done when Skoda have the car in. Why it's not updated OTA I'm not sure. I'll go check what version I have. Regarding starting the car, I'd be very surprised if that has any impact on this infotainment issue, as the problem first kicked in about an hour into our journey. More often than not I do press the button to get the ignition on, put my seatbelt on, then depress the clutch and start up. I couldn't swear to having done that 100% of the time though.
  3. I have a 2021 Octavia, which has had some minor gremlins thus far. However, now the touchscreen has started to freeze completely, rendering radio, aircon, reversing sensors and more completely inoperable. Switching off and then on again doesn't work. Not a big problem on short runs, but on longer trips - especially those when you're not familiar with the route, or when there are extremes of temperature outside - it's not good enough. Going in for resolution in due course, but am running out of patience (not to mention confidence) with the infotainment system. A real shame, as the rest of the car is great.
  4. Gave it a go, as promised! Didn't have your luck 'm afraid. Drove for an hour and a half, with USB plugged in. No change in version details by the time I got home. So frustrating. Just grateful that the salesman did actually get an newer version of maps for me, even though they are out of date already! I think I shall resort to Google Maps or similar via Android Auto if I keep the car long enough for my map software to be really old! Cheers.
  5. Excellent, thanks, I'll give that a go in a couple of weeks on my next long drive. Cheers.
  6. Congrats on your successful update. Did you simply plug in the USB and drive for 50 mins, or did you need to 'play' with the infotainment settings to initiate the update process? Cheers.
  7. Yes, tried with engine on and off. I've tried putting the USB stick in before putting the ignition on and after. None of it has made any difference I'm afraid.
  8. Hi I've just tried to download the latest map, following my earlier guidance, but I'm afraid, like you, I still get the USB ports in engineering mode greyed out. I don't know why it worked for the salesman but not us. He was happy enough to give me the instructions, which seem pretty straightforward, so I don't really understand why we are having these problems. My apologies to anyone who may have hoped my instructions would lead to a successful outcome. Next time I visit my Skoda dealership for servicing etc, I will seek him out again, and try to get to the bottom of the problem. If I learn anything useful I will update this post. Thankfully, though, for the time being I have (relatively) new maps.
  9. I'm sorry it's not worked for you. I've just gone in again with the same USB stick and both my USB slots are also greyed out like yours. I'm guessing in my case it is because the data on the USB stick has already been used, although I can't be certain. Did you download the map files using a MAC or Windows computer? Apparently it doesn't work with a MAC. I'm afraid I don't have any more suggestions for you, all I can say is the process worked for me. Perhaps speak to Skoda? When next maps are made available, I will try again, and post on here the results. Good luck!
  10. Not sure whether you ever got to the bottom of this, but I have just managed to get my Columbus MIB3 satnav updated. It is nowhere near as difficult as you have been led to believe. However, I'm not surprised by the inaccurate information provided by Skoda, as I too have had lots of conflicting advice. I obtained a high speed USB C flash drive from Amazon, and downloaded the Central Europe maps. It took about 4 hours, but to then download onto the flash drive itself took about 40 minutes. Please see details below from my earlier post... The Skoda salesman who sold me the car told me I could update maps manually, but I'd tried following the instructions on the Skoda update portal and got nowhere. I'd downloaded the maps (Central Europe) onto a 64gb USB c stick and inserted it into one of the ports by the gear stick. I left it in the car for several days, and nothing happened. The car was due to have some warranty work done, so I thought I'd take the USB stick and get the garage to upload the maps for me. When I collected the car, the service reception told me I needed a subscription, based on what their 'master technician' had told them. I made the point that I'd been given different information from the salesman, who just happened to be passing. He re-iterated that I did not require a subscription, took my USB stick, and returned 5 minutes later saying "All done!". So I asked him how he did it, and subsequently played with the system to see if I could do the same myself. Step 1 - press and hold the menu button until you get the page showing "software/update". Step 2 - Select option "software/update" Step 3 - press "start update". Wait a few seconds, while the screen goes blank, and then enters "engineering" screen. Step 4 - select "update", then select which USB port to take data from. This should trigger the start of uploading of new maps data. The file is about 28gb (Central Europe), but 64gb drive recommended. I'm not sure how long the process took, the salesman said it should be completed by the time I got home - about 40 minutes. My maps version has gone from 20/07 to 22/12 which is supposed to be 2023/2024 maps, so it was indeed completed pretty quickly. It helps if you have a high speed USB stick, which reduces the data transfer time significantly. Hope this helps...
  11. Thank you for this information. Gave me the confidence to ring Skoda and ask about it. They confirmed my car had not had the recall work done. Subsequently replaced the boot dampers under warranty and the rattle has gone. As someone else said, it's like I have a new car!
  12. I realise this is a long time after the original post, but having finally got the maps on my 2021 Octavia mk IV updated manually, I thought I'd share the process. My SatNav system is Columbus MIB3. For context...
