  1. Just to say thank you @Skeloggs, this fixed it for me. I had new genuine 340mm front discs with TRW pads from autodoc fitted, and started to notice a clanking/clunking/rattle from front nearside, over light bumps. Mostly noticed on surface changes in the road, not potholes or speed bumps, at 20-60mph. Got the garage who fitted them to bend out the retaining clip and it seems to have fixed the problem so far. Fingers crossed it will stay that way. If it's of interest to anyone, I had EBC red stuff discs and pads on there before from the previous owner and they were warped as hell. These new ones so far feel nice and progressive and so far haven't warped. They do stick a bit when coming to a standstill though, which I find irritating. It's impossible to come to a smooth stop, even when lifting the pedal a little when near standstill.

Great, thanks guys. @Gammyleg I will check out Erwin - I'd not heard of that. @hawkx617 - amazing! Thanks for the link to the bodywork manual. Very useful. If you get a chance to send the full thing, I'd be really grateful. Still trying to figure out a tail light issue and that would really help.

@hawkx617 - can you point me in the direction of this workshop manual, please? Sounds like some excellent light reading!

@hawkx617 - sorry, I'm wrong! I just checked back through my records and I didn't get the diff oil changed at point of sale. It had been done 2 years prior, so wasn't due. Sorry. I did buy the car from a Skoda dealer and had to push hard to get things done as part of the pre-sales prep. I managed to get a DSG service, plugs, brake fluid and air filter done before sale - but getting a detailed service history out them was like getting blood from a stone. Their terminology and service intervals for servicing are really confusing and lack detail, and I get the feeling it's done this way on purpose so they can wriggle out of things as and when they need to. I may be wrong, but this has been my experience! As for whether 'final drive oil' means diff oil, I couldn't say for sure - maybe someone else can answer that? I do however have a screenshot from the service dept's system at the main dealer showing what they call it internally - which is what any normal person would also refer to it as ('Front differential lock oil') and it shows the service intervals and cost, which might be useful for you: I would suggest ringing the service department at the dealer you bought it from, and asking them. Or if they don't give you a clear answer, try another Skoda dealer who don't have skin in the game!

To my knowledge, all 245s have the VAQ diff (mine definitely does, as I've had it serviced). Someone did a very good summary of this a while ago when I was looking for mine but I can't find it now. But from memory: Pre-facelift 230 has the VAQ Facelift 230 does not have the VAQ Facelift 245 does have the VAQ
  6. Sorry to hijack the thread, but can anyone tell me the part number for this connector, or where to get one, by any chance? Previous owner must have ripped it off accidentally when they removed the tail light, as mine looks like this 🤦‍♂️: Wondering if this is what I need: https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/1j0972723-flat-contact-housing-6-pin-skoda-17256.html Mine is a post facelift VRS estate with LED tail lights. Any suggestions very much appreciated!
  7. Easiest way to get the skoda history is by using the live chat on Skoda's own contact us page (https://www.skoda.co.uk/discover/contact-us) I'm also looking to buy and have got the history of a good 10+ cars this way. They'll email you a pdf on the spot. Be warned though - the history is often pretty vague and doesn't give you much detail, which I've found frustrating.
