  1. You ask about the tool thingy, whilst I have a usb adaptor that I plug in, I did have to replace the lighter socket and the first garage that tried to do it shorted the fuse by trying to lever it out with a metal tool. I didn't see what the better mechanic used but he did say you can't just try and grasp the metal edge. Also, it needed replacing because whoever before me had busted off one of the little tabs that hold it into the hole, presumably by trying to lever it off without the tool. So maybe it can be done carefully without the gizmo but mine was busted in 2 ways from folks trying to brute force it.
  2. Hi folks, Would anyone be able to help me with my roomster's lighter socket? I've had the car since November (and I've fallen in love lol), it's my first car, I'm also in my 40s and don't have any car tinkering family to ask about this stuff! The car came to me with a faulty cigarette lighter which the dealer was supposed to replace. It's the lighter bit not the socket that is broken and socket actually worked fine as a charging socket. They "forgot" and instead ordered a replacement socket and said it'd be easy to replace. I didn't fancy messing with it but when my seatbelt needed fixing I asked the garage to replace the socket at the same time. Garage came back saying the replacement wasn't the right kind so they didn't fit it. I asked them to put the old one back (seeing as it worked fine, was just a bit tatty) which I thought they did. Turns out they put it back in but didn't connect it. Found this out trying to use my tire pump. And it seems maybe the boot socket is connected in series or something because the boot socket also isn't working. So today we had a look to see if it was doable for us to fix, opened up the panels and got the plug back in but it's still not working. Is there something else they would have disconnected? Looked at the fuses and I *think* the one supposed to be the sockets is in (I looked just in case it was obviously missing). Is this something that is possibly an easy job if I can be guided? Or should I deffo get (a different) garage to look at it? I am obviously new to understanding the car, but I am fairly competent with practical things. At least I'd appreciate any advice so I can make sure I give the right instructions to get a garage to do the job properly! And, sorry for the long question, if anyone would be able to easily double check I'm ordering the right replacement bits I'd be super grateful. I feel like I got taken round the houses a bit with the parts diagram on here - https://www.lllparts.co.uk/product/1K0919309/1k0919309-genuine-vw-audi-2 I'm trying to get the socket and the ring surround clip as I can see one of the clip/flange bits is snapped off. I figured I don't actually need the lighter unit as it's never going to be used. Thank you so much for any help!
  3. Thank you, I've managed to order one through one of the parts finder sites. I appreciate your input though! I'm moving uncharacteristically swiftly on trying to get this fixed 😅
  4. Hi all, My 2014 roomster driver side seatbelt is playing up, with the locking mechanism overreacting making it hard to pull out. The amount that pulls freely is somewhat variable before the ratchet locking kicks in, I ended up having to inch it out little by little on the last trip. Independent garage has had a look and said it needs replacing and pointed me towards scrap parts as a good solution. I've had a bit of a look and I'm only finding a left side unit. Does anyone know if a european right hand side one would be ok? Or does the driving side make any difference to how they fit? Or how to find the part number so I can search with that rather than relying on left/right descriptions. Also, I've seen it said that roomsters and fabias are the same for the front section, does anyone know if I can widen my search to include a fabia seatbelts? Or any other advice? Thanks in advance
  5. Hello everyone, I'm a new (older) driver and have a roomster as my first car! We ended up here often when researching cars and now we have our car and I've been driving it for a few months I'm back. I really do love the roomster! I have a couple of questions but I'll ask them in the correct places but really just wanted to say hello. I feel like maybe the roomster has a bit of a niche following so I'm happy to join the gang. I'm keen to learn how best to look after my guy as it's exactly what we need and I'd like to keep it running nicely for as long as I can, I can't imagine picking another car. Thanks for having me
