New Superb 2.0 TSI 265 p.s - some questions and impressions
I ultimately went with the diesel (193 hp) for better fuel economy, but I seriously considered the more powerful petrol version also. From what I see, the diesel engine is strong enough, but the DSG transmission programming and throttle response make the car feel quite sluggish if I'm gentle on the gas. Then, suddenly, it kicks in with a strong jolt, and that’s when the power really comes. However, the range between sluggishness and excessive jerking is quite narrow. Is it better in the 265hp petrol variant?

. "On second day of ownership several warning lights appeared. Contacted dealer who wanted the car returned. Having read this thread I decided to wait and see if it cleared. After a short run and a restart it was all back to normal. I have seen the odd "front collision" symbol at start up but it soon goes - frosty morning...perhaps. " . . By the way, if there's frost on the car, you need to clean two areas to avoid warnings: Completely clear the glass section in front of the camera at the top of the windshield. AND the most important, clean the opening of the camera on the radar box in the center of the grille. If both are cleaned, there will be no warnings on a frosty morning.

I'm writing from a Scandinavian region, near Gothenburg. It's probably harsher up north, but here it's not too bad. For example, I've been driving on summer tires for a week as an experiment, and so far, no issues—it's currently +2 C outside. My wife drives an ID.3, and once, the charging port cover froze shut on her. Similarly, in my previous Kodiaq, the fuel filler door froze a couple of times in memorable situations. Honestly, I'm not sure how wise it is for Škoda to mount the ice scraper right on the charging port cover. If it freezes seriously, that cover will be the first to get stuck. And since the whole thing is plastic, it's not something you'd want to force too much—it feels like it can break easily. . I don’t like the over-engineering of cars either, and it would be great if the "smart features" of the Superb could be permanently disabled—at least if the manufacturer can't make them at least 99% reliable. For example, I would completely turn off the traffic sign recognition system, along with the speed limit warning. As I see for example, the Skoda cant deal with this special/residential zone sign speed limits in Sweden: , cant identify the traffic signs from light: , etc, etc, etc

. Because when I sold my previous Kodiaq, I kept a one-year-old, low-mileage set of tires on alloy wheels. I asked the service if they could be fitted to the Superb, and they said yes, so I put them on. They fit well, and there was no issue with them at all. The speed measurements stayed also ok, I checked with GPS. Except that maybe this is what confused the assistance systems. But I’m not celebrating victory yet—only if everything still works fine after a month. For now, after just a week, this is just a status update.

Update: Based on the VIN, there is no new software update available for the car, so the latest service visit was completely unsuccessful. HOWEVER! The mechanic said they can continue the troubleshooting, BUT I should bring the car back with the factory tires for the next appointment. He believes that the wheels can cause some interesting electronic issues. At the very end of December, I put on winter tires that are not the exact same size of the summer ones—they are more balloon-like, 65-profile, they are in good condition from my previous Kodiaq. (I asked the service beforehand if they could be used on the Superb, and the service advisor eventually said yes. The wheels and tires physically performed fine.) However, following the new advice of the electronic specialist, I put the original summer tires back at home. After that, already on the short test driving, all the assistant error messages stopped…! I took the car to the service as scheduled, but they found no new error messages and returned the car in the evening without doing anything again. Fortunately, the winter has been mild here (3-5°C), so I left the summer tires on and drove for a week—zero error messages. The big question is whether I just got lucky and the flood of yellow warnings will return next week, but so far, so good—I've been using the car daily, even on highways. So, this could be also a lesson: wheel size, tire pressure, etc., can matter more than expected!

. I dont have any better option than to try this update... If it doesnt work will I leave the car in the Skoda service. I dont know, the assists cant be worse, I can only win with this update.

. From one on the list, chatGPT translation. 2021.06.24, Octavia: . Surgical success, patient passed away... The design of the entire system is fundamentally flawed because most of the functions you need are accessible with 2-3 button presses... the impression is that you're constantly messing with menus instead of looking at the road. Driver assistance systems... the lane-keeping assist immediately turns off, intervenes abruptly, works poorly, and is uncomfortable overall. Fortunately, it's relatively simple to turn it off because there's a dedicated button on the steering wheel. Collision warning also works randomly... sometimes it does nothing when stopped at a traffic light, and other times it warns of a collision when a car is turning... no joke, the icon is quite frightening. Fortunately, we haven't experienced random braking yet. Out of frustration, I started a photo collection of the error messages the onboard system throws up... because it throws plenty of them, like seat exit sensors, Bluetooth, wireless charging, front assist, side assist, etc. there's always something popping up. The dealer, by the way, is completely correct, and their attitude is good; obviously, they can’t do anything if the product they are selling is flawed. They keep pushing 2-day software updates on the car... but most of the problems are either not fixed or cannot be fixed because the system’s fundamental structure is bad. In conclusion, in this form, I can't recommend this car to anyone. As a car, it delivers the quality we've come to expect, but the customer experience, overall, is terrible. 😞 Due to the stuttering, improper functions, people often have strong negative feelings towards the car. It's hard to decide whether I hate the car more, or the manager who lets such a piece of junk out.

. . I read now a hungarian consumer site, about Octavia Mk4. Many disappointed texts from 2020-2024 about the same issues about assistansts (assasinations ) and infotainment issues. So Skoda knows this for years.... . If somebody can read hungarian, or Google helps to translate: https://nepitelet.hu/autok/skoda/octavia_2020/

I took the car to the brand service on Friday. They wanted to download=read out logs, and that's what the appointment was for. But nothing happened because it turned out that the front of the car would need to be "dismantled" in order to access something that’s there. However, my appointment was with an electrical mechanic who doesn't dismantle things, so after a whole day at the service, I got the car back completely without results. They would need 2-3 working days to do that.

Happy and errorfree New Year! It is not speed warning, because it says: side assist, front assist, parking and exit assist, etc. . Tomorrow will I visit the garage at the Skoda dealer.

New to me Superb IV: central locking set up?
Is there a way to turn off the automatic door locking after starting the car? It's very inconvenient for me and for my family.

I traveled back from Germany yesterday, it was a long journey, and I had time to try out the bell-ringing assistants. On the highway, the messages can be triggered by accelerating or after releasing the gas pedal, the bell ringing occurs, so the speed change matters. After a few seconds of acceleration or deceleration, the bell ringing occurs. For example, if you start accelerating around 110, by 150-160 the bell ringing is guaranteed with an assistant error message pops up. Between the speed range of 50-130, the ringing and messages dont come. . I can receive error messages from three assistants: side assist, front assist, parking and exit assist, and after each one as a "bonus", it immediately displays that the proactive passenger protection is limited. The priority order of the three assistants is 1. front, 2. side, 3. parking. If I turn one off in the assistant menu, the next one in line will be displayed the next time. And since the parking and exit assist cannot be turned off from the assist list, it's pointless to turn off the first two, because the number of alerts won't be fewer without them, only the last assist will be displayed in the message. (By the way, it's already pretty ridiculous that at a speed of 160, the any parking and exit from the car assist sends an error message.)

Hi! Brand new Superb, took over it in very early december, and after only ca 2-3000km begun the same proble this week as you write also. "Side assist unavailable", "Front assist unavailable", "Protective occupant unavailable". The messages come with loud and annoying bell ringing, quite randomly; sometimes there are none for minutes, other times twice a minute. I read here that there is a new software fix, I called the dealer (in Hungary), but according to them, there is no software update for my cars VIN, but I managed to push for an appointment in early January, as they tried to turn me away, citing a full schedule. . I will try the battery also, but as a temporary "fix", before I start driving, turn off all the assists on the list. I drove cars without theese assists and I "survived", so I can drive without assists now also, but very uncomfortable to turn them off every time.
