  1. I finally did it! You're right about the second clamp. I had to put one clamp in, then the clips, then the second clamp. It was impossible to do as the instructions stated. Looking at my effort, I wish I'd moved the screwholes towards your placements, as the hook is in the way on mine. But it's done and I can have a cup of tea
  2. Thank you for the advice everyone. I'll get a 4-wheel alignment done and the rear tyres replaced at the same time. I'm a bit surprised the Skoda dealer didn't pick up on this. As I reported it as a "niggle" shortly after buying the car, as I was concerned a wheel bearing was out. But hey-ho, it's an easy fix. Once the warranty runs out, I'll definitely put some sound deadening in the boot. There's a lot of bare metal I'm in the South Manchester area if anyone can recommend a decent tyre shop? (I recently had a frustrating experience trying to get my Mk2 polo tracked. About 4 tyre shops didn't know how to do it! Which doesn't give you confidence on their skill level!).
  3. I'd love to try it on a track, but I think the Mrs would kill me if I broke something. It's the diesel, so it's mainly crusing up and down a motorway.
  4. I'm definitely tempted to try the Goodyear. They've got a slightly lower noise rating than the Michelin. Plus they are a little cheaper?
  5. Here's the tyres as they are at the moment. I can't see any obvious serrated edges- unless I'm looking in the wrong place? The car drives really straight to be fair, and to my untrained eye, the wear looks pretty even? I know my local kwik fit has a hunter 4 wheel alignment machine. They do free alignment checks, I'm not sure how much they charge for a 4 wheel alignment?
  6. Hi all I need to replace the rear tyres on my VRS hatchback as they are getting worn. The tyres I have currently are Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in 225/40r18 They seem to grip well. It's just there's quite a bit of road noise, especially at speed. (a video on the motorway - you might need headphones to hear the drone https://photos.app.goo.gl/UB8uacQwMpXQGnwt8) Is there a better tyre for noise, or should I replace with the same tyres?
  7. Ah no scratch that - it's a clip. So you just need a webbing clip from a haberdasher, if the scrappy option doesn't work.
  8. There wasn't a part number on the first aid kit strap buckle I'm afraid. It looks like a generic webbing buckle - a tri glide? Perhaps a haberdashery might sell you one for a few pence? Or maybe finda mk3 octavia that's in a scrappy near you?
  9. You can buy the warning triangle and first aid kit from a Skoda dealer, but they'll probably charge you £30 and £20 respectively. If you want the official items, you can get them through skodaparts.com https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/gga700001a-warning-triangle-skoda-39532.html https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/3t0093108b-first-aid-kit-for-the-car-czech-republic-skoda-26116.html It's a bit dear for postage, as it's coming from the Czech republic, so you might want to order some other items whilst you are there? They are quite good at responding to queries, so you could ask them about the missing clip? My warning triangle is a generic item, that I got from a VW breaker for under a fiver, but it fits perfectly. It has the number 27R033954 on it's case. The case measures 43.5x6x3.5cm. It was originally used in my wife's Peugeot, so I think it must be a standard size.
  10. An update on this. The rear screen was replaced under warranty. The lines work, and the radio seems fine.
  11. I've not fitted it yet, I've been a wuss with the cold weather. Cheers for the heads-up. Would you say when fitting the clamp, it's good to have an assistant?
  12. I've also seen individually https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/5e2864435vzi-textile-rug-rs-front-left-skoda-40808.html which are listed as VRS mats (no Octavia, but have red stitching - I'd ideally like grey to match the seats)
  13. Sorry to resurrect a thread. But can anyone confirm the part number for the VRS mats? As mine didn't come with them. Are they 5E2061404B? (Prestiege textile mats).
  14. Here's my spare wheel and toolkit in my mk3 VRS It contains: - Screwdriver - Locking wheel nut - Towing eye - Clamps for removing the wheel trims - Jack - Crank for the jack - Wheel brace Looking at the owners manual, i was missing three items, which I ordered off skoda parts: 8D0012244A wheel bolt cap remover 6H0867749 strap 3T0012245 tail light key The strap fits great. I'm not sure where the bolt cap remover and tail light key fitted, so i shoved them in the bottom. (For emergencies I fitted a hiviz vest, foldable shovel, foil blankets in the foam insert. In the space round the wheel is jumper cables, skoda tow rope, Aldi fault code reader)
  15. I've just bought the net for under the parcel shelf. (This one https://shop.wingsskoda.co.uk/products/skoda-net-under-the-parcel-shelf-octavia-iii) It involves some drilling into the shelf. Before I get my hands dirty and start drilling, has anyone installed one? If so can they share any tips?
  16. It's definitely something to do with signal strength. Here's two examples on slightly weaker signals Cuts out on FM https://photos.app.goo.gl/e9RbE8WzqJxLz8GU8 Cuts out on DAB https://photos.app.goo.gl/fTT93YpzZzXnBUrf8 I'm wondering as other people have mentioned, it's something to do with a bad earth on the aerial amplifier? If it was interference, wouldn't I still hear the FM radio station, but with interference?
  17. The storage box looks like it's from a few other vws. I feel Skoda were being a bit tight when they built my car, as all I've got is the hi Vis holder. Here's some info on the storage box https://youtu.be/Tlu5y1LujXs?si=EWk6kmFOMKPmTPsm
  18. Hi Nik Mine's a 2017 prefacelift VRS. So if it fits yours, it'll definitely fit mine! I'm going to go storage box one side, brolly holder the other and ditch the hi-vis holder
  19. Just a sanity check before I order the bits. Does this umbrella holder fit a pre-facelift car? As the parts are listed for a post facelift?
  20. That's good to know - there's a Halfords less than a mile away from me. Is this the set? https://www.halfords.com/tools/hand-tools/sockets-and-accessories/halfords-advanced-11-piece-spline-bit-set-628118.html
  21. I get the crazy expensive thing. The dealer wanted £60 for the first aid kit. I politely said no
  22. I'll look for an m10 triple square socket. My socket set must be pretty oldskool as I haven't got any of those. Thanks for enquiring on the part numbers. If you could get me a cost too, that would be great. In my experience of ordering VW parts, sometimes they can be surprisingly cheap.
  23. Hi all In my Octavia hatchback, I have a plain divider on the left hand side of the boot. I think some models had a different boot divider, that contained removable velcro dividers? Hunting round online I found this: 5E5 867 145 9B9 https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/5e58671459b9-storage-box-skoda-36795.html 6V0 061 104 https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/6v0061104-storage-blocks-skoda-25132.html Could anyone with a hatch with those parts fitted confirm they are the correct part numbers? Cheers
  24. Looking at this video it's just 4 bolts, which is a lot less hassle than I thought! I just need a star shaped socket? (Even so it's a million miles easier than in my oldskool polo, where youhave to slide the seat off it's runners) https://youtu.be/VwzFJSMWq6o?si=VYE56ibzGqaIlBRo
  25. I got a cheapy bag in the end - that fits in the passenger side boot recess. (This one https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/p/sakura-boot-storage-bag-small-carpet-553991580) The Skoda bag looked like it clipped to the side in the main boot area. This would get in the way when getting the pram in and out of the boot. Same as you - a bag is a much neater way of carrying screenwash, blanket road trip stuff, rather than having it rattle round the boot. In my other car I have things like an emergency jacket, hi vis etc. There's quite a bit of space round the spare wheel, so I'm going to stash things like jump leads there.
