To clarify since some other searching suggests it may be a sign of an issue with the battery, this warning does not come up at any other time to my knowledge. Only when pushing the washer stalk back with ignition off. There's also some mechanical sound from the front of the car when it's happening, not sure where that's coming from (washer pump??). Otherwise, stop/start works fine when driving, and the car has been used for some decent 30min+ run outs since we got it. Mystifying.

Hi all, just joined the forum today as part of trying to figure out why the rear washer on our new (to us) 2016 Fabia estate SE doesn't work. It's a manual with 1.2 TSI petrol engine. The rear wiper motor works, and both the washer and wipers at the front work fine. When pressing the stalk all the way back, there's no sound whatsoever from the pump. With the stalk in the normal on position, the wiper goes constantly instead of intermittently. Based on comments and experience elsewhere I am thinking the stalk may be corroded inside etc. Fuse 22 was blown but replacing that hasn't helped. However as part of messing about with it I've noticed that if I push the stalk back to the washer position with the ignition turned off, the airbag lights on the dash light up, there's a warning beep and the MFD says 'Start system faulty! Workshop'. This goes away when I release the stalk. There's no issue at all with the starting system in normal use, and I've not come across any other electrical issues so far apart from a dead interior reading light. The car has a normal key turn start, not keyless or button start. Has anyone else come across this? Is it likely to be a sign of a wider electrical issue, such as a faulty BCM?

Just tried firing some GT85 in as per the reply above, didn't make any difference but I noticed that if I press the stalk back with the ignition off the airbag lights on the dash come on and there's a warning beep and 'Starter system faulty! Workshop'. The car starts up perfectly fine, so no idea what that's about. Apologies for hijacking your thread but the wiper being on constantly instead of intermittent, along with the fuse being blown and that weird error message, all seems to confirm the stalk isn't doing what it should. I'll make a thread in the right place if/when I get it sorted, because at this time of year you definitely need the rear washer.

Just signed up to the forum to make a post about this issue (though our car is a Mk3) as I spent hours and hours trying to find someone else in the world with the problem, and then I've immediately seen this thread. 🤣 Everyone else seems to have had both washers not working (and/or the wiper motors not working); on ours the front washer works fine but there's no sound from the pump when trying to operate the rear. Fuse 22 was found to be blown so I thought replacing that might resolve it, but no joy. The other symptom we have is that the rear wiper runs constantly when the stalk is pushed back to the on position, whereas it seems it should be an intermittent sweep unless cleaning. So irrespective of the model, sounds like it's the stalk to blame.
