  1. Hello Fellow Briskodians hope you are all well! For those that don't know I had a little Suzuki Swift Sport as my Daily for the past 7 Months and before the Swift I had a MK1 Fabia VRS TDI for 3 Years which was a cracking Car, As time has gone on with the Swift I have never really got on with the 1.6 Revvy N/A Motor and have missed that effortless Driving Style that a Turbo Diesel offers. I have looked for something to replace the Swift with on and off for a few Months but was not 100% Sure what I really wanted, I have owned 2 x MK6 Golf R's in the past and really liked the MK6 Golf as a Car so began looking at the Market. As you can imagine there are a lot of MK6 Golf TDI's about however finding an example that would tick all my boxes proved a little difficult. I wanted... 2011/2012 Reg 2.0 TDI with the CR140 Engine 5 Doors Manual Gearbox Less than 80K Miles Full Service History (Not longlife) Well Looked after Cosmetically Grey or Red Colour With a few Toys fitted if possible I didn't want a GTD as I am going to be getting a Second Car as a Toy so my Daily doesn't really need to be anything too special but I still wanted a nice Car and didn't want a shed. I decided on either Match or GT Spec and depending on what came up first I would go for. I viewed 2 x Cars a couple of Weeks ago and neither were up-to my standards so I walked away. Then I spotted what looked like a nice example on Autotrader at a Small Independent Dealership in Tamworth, I sent a few Emails and asked all my usual questions and decided that it worth going to view so I had a Drive down in the Swift. First impressions were spot on, The Golf was well presented and had clearly been well looked after, I went for a little Test Drive and when I got back to the Dealer we discussed some figures and I did a Deal. The Golf was up at strong Money but I did feel it was worth it based on its Condition, Low Mileage, Full Service History & Spec. They took a real interest in the Suzuki too and made me such a good offer I ended up trading the Swift Sport in and basically it was a straight swap! Happy Days. The Car... MK6 Golf TDI in Match Spec 2.0 CR 140BHP Engine 2011/61 Plate 1 Previous Owner 50600 Miles Full Service History, 9 Stamps in the Book done every 12 Months Manual Gearbox United/Steel Grey The Car is also pretty well specced and has Full Leather with Heated Fronts, Cruise Control, RCD 510 DAB Head Unit with Bluetooth, Dual Zone Climate Control, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, Front Fogs, Folding Mirrors, Genuine Mudflaps, Genuine Boot Liner, 2 x Sets of Genuine Floor Mats Carpet & Rubber. The Dealership also put a fresh MOT on the Golf and also had an Oil & Filter Service Carried out with a Brake Fluid change too. I collected the Golf Yesterday Morning and drove it back to Sheffield from Tamworth, Within 10 Miles I instantly knew I had made the right decision and the Golf will be absolutely perfect for my needs as a Daily. I have cracked on an given the Golf its first Detail, Spent 3 Hours on it Yesterday after the Car had cooled Down and another 6 Hours Today so around 9 Hours in Total. Happy with how the Car has come out to be honest, Its not a Show Car but for a 9 Year old Golf its not bad. Still have a few Jobs left to do including Brake Caliper Paint, Replace the Centre Caps & Wheel Nut Covers on the Alloys as they are discoloured but that can wait until Next Week. What I did... Yesterday... I glanced into the Wheel Arches and could see a fair amount of Mud in there just from general use but obviously not an area that has seen much attention from the previous Owner so firstly I... : Place Car on Axle Stands, All 4 x Wheels Removed, Wheel Arches Fully Deep Cleaned using pressure Washer and various Brushes, Then APC and Rinsed again. : Alloys thoroughly Cleaned using Bilberry and then Washed by Hand using Microfibre Mitt. : Refitted Wheels : Tyres Dressed using Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care, Wiped with Microfibre. 2. I am looking to get a Second Car to be honest, Have a little shortlist and I am for the first time in a while really excited about doing it.....Something which I have not been with Bike ownership for quite a while sadly,
  3. Just to update, I have sold the Hayabusa about 10 Days ago. Lost a bit of interest with it and Bikes in general so hanging up my Leathers for a few Years. Cheers
  4. Superb effort, Really like the Idea of the 2.0 CR140 Lump in a Monte Carlo....To be honest having owned a MK1 Fabia VRS with the 130PD I always fancied a MK2 Monte Carlo as a more modern replacement but I always considered the 1.6 105 TDI as a bit of a downgrade No offence. Frustrating really as you can get a Seat Ibiza FR with the 2.0 CR140 as standard which shares the same Chassis as the MK2 Fabia anyway but the Seat Ibiza FR doesn't look half as smart as the Fabia Monte Carlo in my opinion. As said though, Top Effort. Bet its quite a decent package, 300BHP is a decent amount in a small FWD Hatchback.
  5. I feel you pain, Its a bit of a Joke on such a new Car. In 15 Years of Motoring and having Owned around Performance 50 Cars including many VAG's, I have never had a Water Pump Fail on any of my Vehicles! This is One of the main reasons I am hesitant to buy an Octavia VRS as to be honest this sort of thing should not really be an issue on Modern Cars.
  6. Cheers for that, Ultimately Styling is the thing that puts me off the FL 2017 Onwards Cars... I really dislike the front end and split Headlights with a passion "No Disrespect to any FL Owners on here" and don't think I could live with it regardless of how good the Car is. I have looked at other options but as a package there are not too many similar sized Cars that offer what the Octavia VRS has and the TSI PFL 2013-2016 Cars seem to tick all the right Boxes for me! The Q Car part and generally Plain Styling I like the most as I have Owned Volvo 850R Estates many Years ago so that part appeals, I do have a very good budget but I am reluctant to spend more than around £15K as its essentially going to be a Daily Driver but also something I can have the occasional bit of fun in that is comfortable with decent Boot space and need Reliability as I work Unsociable Hours on Shifts. I drive from Sheffield to Peterborough once a Month to spend time with some Family so do the odd trip down the A1. Ultimately I am not expecting to be blown away with an Octavia Performance wise but I would imagine its pretty adequate and flexible, I have been running 130BHP Daily's for the past 3 Years and not really wanted for more BHP and to be honest the VRS TDI Variant would be ideal but I just don't do the Mileage to Warrant having another Diesel. I wont be going down the Tuning route with it as I have done that many times before and in the end used to find my 320BHP MK6 Golf R DSG a bit boring at times and lusted for more BHP this is One reason I gave up Hot Hatches in 2017 and now have a Modified Suzuki Hayabusa with over 200BHP as a Toy....Things don't get much quicker than that LOL. I also don't want anything that attracts too much attention for the reasons you have already mentioned and that rules out a MK7 Golf GTI, A Work Colleague has One and he is paranoid about Front Bumper Theft and indeed the Theft of the Car itself. I know of many MK7 Golf R's that have been stolen on the Owners Club. I am really picky too 🤣 and have a bit of OCD when it comes to buying Cars and their Condition. The Water Pump issue is probably the only thing that puts me off. I really appreciate your input though! Thanks for your reply, All very relevant Points and reasons which attract me to wanting to but One.
  7. Cheers guys, I would be looking to get a 2016 or as New VRS as I can get before the 2017 Facelift.
  8. Hello Everyone, Some of you may already know me on here, I have previously owned 3 x MK1 Fabia VRS's and have been on the Forum for a good number of Years now. Just toying with idea's at the moment but I sold my Stage 1 Golf R DSG in early 2017 to have a bit of a break from running Performance Cars as Daily Drivers and bought an Immaculate MK1 Fabia VRS, I had that Car for 3 Years and sold it in January this Year to a friend but I have never been truly happy with its replacement and so I have began looking for something else. One of the Cars I am considering buying is a MK3 Octavia VRS TSI 2013-2016 Model, I have to admit I was never struck on the styling when they initially released the MK3 but as time has gone on they have really grown on me but I don't know a great deal about them or what to look for in terms of Reliability, Common problems etc??? I have been looking at the market and have quickly realised that the vast majority have the 184BHP Diesel and the Petrol TSI's are few and far between but I only do about 6000 Miles per Year on average and think I will get more enjoyment out of the Petrol Variant plus there is the option to go for a Stage 1 Map too at a later date if I find I want a bit more Performance which from reading yields around the 300BHP Mark? I have read that many People rate the Facelift 2017 onwards Car with the Split Headlights and say its a much better Car and even though my budget would stretch that far sadly I cannot get on with the Styling so an earlier 2013-2016 Pre-Facelift Car is what I would be after. Hopefully I would be after something like this... Saloon or Estate. Manual Gearbox. Ideally as late a Model as I can get. Red, Blue, Grey or White. Sub 40K Miles with Full History. 18" Factory Alloys. Standard Car, Although I would possibly look at getting a Sensible, Clutch Friendly Stage 1 Map I am not into going daft with the Modifications....I have a 200BHP Suzuki Hayabusa as a Toy so don't need to chase BHP in my Car. Ideally from a Main Skoda Dealership for a 12 Months Warranty My Questions are... 1. Are the Service Intervals are similar to the earlier VAG Cars with Longlife or Interval options? I prefer Cars that are Serviced every 12 Months personally. 2. Any Water Pump Issues as with the 184BHP TDI Variant that I have read about? 3. On the earlier TFSI Engines upto 2012 there were a handful or Revised Parts such as Diverter Valves, Cam Followers & PCV Valves that are know to fail and can be replaced for the latest revision items, Are there any similar issues on these later TSI Petrols? 4. Any Timing Chain Tensioner issues like on the earlier 2009-2012 Octavia VRS TSI? 5. Any optional extra's that are worth having? I like Cruise but I presume that is a Standard Item on the VRS anyway? 6. I like my Music and so what Factory Head Unit/Sound System is the best option? I always buy my Cars on Condition and Mileage and have forfeited Spec or Optional Extra's over the Years but I am hoping I can find something that has been looked after like I do with all my Cars. Cheers in advance.
  9. Few more jobs done on the Busa... I have never been entirely happy with the Feel of the Front Brake and always felt it lacked initial Bite, The Standard Pads are not great from what I have read and going on what fellow Owners have said especially on the later ABS Bikes with Brembo Front Calipers is that swapping the Pads makes quite a difference. The Bikes done 8000 Miles and is 3 Years old so was due a Brake Fluid Change, The pads which are the originals had loads of life left in them which says a lot about how hard the compound is but as said lacked initial Bite. I did some research before buying because the Front Brembo Calipers used on the Hayabusa are of a bit of an odd design with the Bleed Nipples on the Inside and Brake Pad Choice is a bit limited. After much mind changing I opted to go for some SBS Brake Pads in the end. New Front & Rear SBS Sintered Pads Brake Fluid Change using ATE Typ 200 DOT 4
