Guess you won't be buying 8 pints from Tesco or Aldi then at £2.20?

    No, and never would.

I get ours delivered by the milkman in reusable glass bottles, supporting a local business and supplier, and helping protect the environment against plastic waste.

But you crack on with your budget 8-pint plastic milk cartons – as long as you're alright Jack 🤨

Been getting my milk from the local Spar shop which is part of the nearest BP garage only 5 minutes walk from my house. For at least 2 years they have been selling two 4 pint milk for £2 yet due to increased demand from panic buying the Management at Spar HQ have decided to remove the offer and charge £1.80 for one 4 pint of milk. This in effect an 80% increase in price so guess what I won't be buying anymore milk from Spar. Sheer greed strikes again unfortunately.

You had it too good for too long. £2 for 8 pints of milk? What percentage of that do you think the dairy farmer pocketed?

It's a massive problem that's been shown up in all it's glory by coronavirus. We want as much cheap stuff as we can get, the cheaper the better, but never think about the other end of the chain. Supermarkets have squeezed suppliers way beyond resonable limits for years and suddenly the system has been exposed.

I really hope the virus leads to a new dawn in respect for growers, suppliers, shelf stackers, lorry drivers and all those never-given-a-second-thought-to workers who are suddenly the most important people in the world,  keeping us fed and watered.

£2 for 8 pints? Just disgusting.

Thank you very much for all your kind words.  Now where did I put that ruddy wheelchair ?🍺

Good to hear you're OK. 👍

The only reason I asked is that yesterday the whole Unread Content list was dominated by you welcoming newbies, which is no bad thing, but I was intrigued.

I suffered a bout of viral pneumonia a year ago, caught from the briefest contact with a catholic saints religious relic during a church mass. In hindsight, my stupidity,  when all and sundry were kissing this thing and a cursory wipe with the same cloth was pathetic hygiene practice.

I was not hospitalised, but it was the most horrible experience of my life, I really did think I was going to die.  Only had that feeling once before in my life. Powerful antibiotics made no difference whatsover. As I was on my own at home, I resorted to frequently hanging upside to aid coughing out masses of phlegm and liquid, the only way I could temporarily restore some lung function. Took a month to recover.

Sounds like the big man was trying to tell you something. Not sure what though 🤔

I don't know how you can bear to leave the house with all these screwdriver-wielding thugs about. Jesus!

The only criminals I've ever encountered with a screwdriver have been plumbers and sparkies … and mechanics. Robbing barstewards 🙃

    Jigger72,

Many thanks for going to the bother. Yes to first 2, but neither now stocks the mower; second pair miles away. I may end up having resort to John Lewis, at least they free deliver over £50.

PS Thanks to the other replies - much my own thoughts.

I'm pretty sure all of them can be delivered to a store of your choice?

Far from it, my observation is that you enjoy quoting a lot of my posts and disagreeing with most of my advice being offered to others.

That's because your 'advice' is nonsense.

Driving around with a puncture repair to the tyre sidewall for 1500 miles is absolutely fine. Um, okaaaay …

Tyres with only 1.6mm grip left are safer than tyres with 3mm grip left. Um, okaaay …

Everything Michelin's marketing team say is true. Um, okaaay …

    Too much hysteria.

The 1.6mm legal tread depth limit is there for a reason.

Isn't this a bit like saying the max speed limit is there for a reason. Doesn't mean you should drive at that speed all the time.

The difference in grip between a tyre at 1.6mm compared to 3mm is the same as that between 6.4mm and 8mm.

Is it? The difference in mm is nearly the same but do you have evidence that an equal amount of grip is applicable between the two examples?

Where do you draw the line, should we change our tyres at 4mm, 5mm, 6.4mm, 7.5mm?

That would be stupid. You're talking about 1.6mm achieving the same amount of safety and grip as 6mm.

The puncture repair has covered close to 15,000 miles. It is perfectly fine.

Do you know this for a fact? I would say he, and other road users around him, have been extremely lucky.

  9. There was much huffing and puffing in my Sainsbury's when they introduced those veg nets. I was earwigging some old fella complaining about it and he threatened to bring his own bags the following week. Er … 🙄

I bought two and only really use one for the sprouts, but the second came in handy when the spuds bag split.

I haven't used the little bags for years, and I'm still using the same big plastic bags I picked up about 6 years ago. I'd see people pulling reams of the little ones off and putting like, two carrots in one, three onions in another. Most people are just plain stupid 🤨

No offence meant or saying one should drive like a nob on public roads. There are millions out there that drive like a nob who don't realise it without me sponsoring them. I normally just arrest them

Wow! So you're Transport Police? There is no hope …

But I have never seen such brown colour of diesel car's engine oil. I had last service on April'19 and that engine oil was also blak-ish. couldn't find what oil they used from the invoice.

Trans City, Hoe St? I probably walked past your car where they park all their Skodas – up and down my street.

I used them a couple of times and didn't have a problem but I preferred using these:

If you're out of warranty then I'd go there instead.

  12. I read the title as if it was a new TV channel a la Walter Presents 😀

Congratulations on your pending new arrival.

I would buy him a Rolex Submariner and stick it in the safe until he's 18. The cost might sting now but in 18 years it will worth about quadruple the initial outlay  👍

    sorry for your friends loss.

I think it was a stranger – I can't see any indication of it being a friend, which makes the anger even more peculiar.

Could the son have walked or cycled to the hospital?

Anyway, if I was passing away I would rather my two children were outside protesting at the destruction of their future than weeping all over me. I've been part of the problem through ignorance, and we all owe a massive debt to the state we're in on but nobody is really prepared to make the necessary sacrifices.

It's the, 'I'm alright Jack, it wouldn't make any difference anyway' mob that deserve our ire.

Just wondered what people are using to keep their automatic 'weekend' watches wound up as it's such a pain to keep resetting time the date, time etc?

For us watch nerds that's part of the fun. And let's face it, it only takes about a minute so hardly eating into your weekend 😉

I've had too many ins and outs on the watch front to list since I last posted, but I'm enjoying my latest squeeze

  15. Wow! It looks like a polka dot wasp moth but what it's doing in Norfolk is anyone's guess? It's more commonly found in the southern states of the US and the Caribbean.

    Are you on holiday?

EDIT: My mistake. It's a nine-spotted moth, which lives in Southern Europe but can occasionally be seen during summer in the UK. It doesn't breed here though.

    That's a good rare spot – pun intended :)
