Driving Rusty reminded me about the rather annoying rev cut about 4000rpm and I decided to have a quick look at it using this guide. http://www.intendedacceleration.com/tip_2.html Well the idle switch works, and the air intake temp sensor, but the metal leaf on the full load switch was bent meaning it would never switch, and I'm missing the throttle adjuster clip (my mistake I'm sure) which means I can't actually apply full throttle. The full load switch isn't connected to the ECU so that's not the issue, everything else seems to check out. On the way home from Auto Brake and Clutch. No changes made yet, parts on the way, will take some time soon to do more troubleshooting. It looks so small next to a Ranger. 29 miles covered in the last week, more than the previous year.

Alright, I'm coming around to the idea of troubleshooting it more myself. I was putting an arbitrary time constraint on things because I wanted to get it to an event but there's no point rushing things. Have ordered new relays, fingers crossed they are right As for the controller - might be worth pulling it apart with Neill my favourite electronics expert.

I'm still torn between fixing or removing. Removing means it can't break again, or continue to be unreliable. Lots of old cars don't have abs. But it is a factory feature. But then so was the original carpet, upholstery, paint, heated seats, stereo, and they're gone.

ABS vs. non-ABS. Waiting for a quote to make my car look like the first one. Weight saving bro! Then I have to get it certified without ABS. Then I can get a WoF.

The parks were at about 35 degree angles too, glad my handbrake works.

Took the cover off the abs unit to check out the relays. Those wires don't look too clever. Taped them up for now. Checked the ABS relay too and it's all correct as far as expected input and output voltages. So I'm kinda over it now. I've dropped the car at Auto Brake and Clutch who fixed a mate's Coupe quattro ABS a while back. Always good when the business owner says "You know it won't be cheap, right?" Longest drive in 2 years, about 20km. No drama and the car felt good at 100kph

Failed the WoF - ABS light came on during the test drive. Brake light was fixed with contact cleaner. Haven't checked headlight yet. And it seems the odometer lighting bulbs have gone off again. Easy fix

Yes the head unit is a new model styled after the original 80s Bremen unit. Out of the driveway! Drives okay, ABS issue I had is gone but there's a new one. Sounds like the pump running for a bit, then stopping, then running. But brakes work well.

Finally the RCA cables arrived so I could fit the stereo properly and reassemble the interior.

I decided to study some wiring diagrams to troubleshoot the constant "Check oil level" warning. The cat had other ideas.. Under tray re fitted. This is an aftermarket piece from Classic Quattros Based on some initial research, wiring diagrams and a Classic-Audi forum post from Darron Edwards from 2012 🙂 There's a .25 BAR oil pressure switch with a single wire which it uses to trigger the warning, that connects to delay relay 234 under the dash. That in turn links to Patrizia for the voice warning and to the digital dash to turn on the oil pressure warning light. Next step is to check that relay, wire continuity from the sensor, and to the dash and patrizia. http://www.classic-audi.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=24892 Hmm, relay unplugged, no oil light on dash but Patrizia gives the warning. Relay plugged in I get both. Definitely have connectivity from oil pressure switch to relay.

Patrizia now has her own speaker, mounted at the back under the driver side dash. She's constantly chatting about checking oil level, and wants me to check my brake pads. Also my Blaupunkt SQR46DAB arrived from the UK. Got it powered but had to wait another week for new double-shielded RCA cables as they were amplifying engine revs through the speakers!

Washed off a few months of dust. No test drive because workmen are ripping up the path outside my house!

Well worth a watch. Makes me feel even more desperate to get mine going. I think Neill may have gone a little overboard with his Patrizia voice synthesiser diagnostic system. Very clever and very cool. Still pinning down exactly what inputs she wants, she's very particular, but we're working her out.

That's ongoning. I've proved that the intake air temp sensor works and the wiring is good, next step is to do some more wire and sensor tests.

That's a lot prettier. And you can see the fluid level now. It needed a little modification to fit, but looks much better. Also.. 5 years ago! Really need to get this car on the road.

I've just bought my dream car, but it needs a lot of work! It runs and drives but hasn't been on the road for ten years. Comes with a donor Coupe Gt shell for body parts.
