  1. Rusty is in many pieces. Turns out the rear main seal is just about the only one anywhere near the gearbox that’s not leaking! Clutch looks okay for wear but is contaminated with gear oil.
  2. Six years ago - test fitting my controversial wheels after they arrived from the UK.
  3. Best camping transport? Rusty certainly got better weather!
  4. You can hear it pulling the revs back in this video.
  5. Went out today to run some errands ($3.06 a litre for 98) and after a while I was getting the overboost issue again. Tightened the banjo bolt again on the wastegate and it improved a bit but I didn’t dare tighten it any more in case it became righty-loosey. It gradually got worse as I drove until I had no boost at all so I called at Lower Hutt Repco where the helpful staff and I found these sort-of-similar copper washers. Problem solved! Full boost is back.
  6. At some point soon I’m going to have to give in and pay the $3 per litre for some 98. Also, added an RS2 to the collection
  7. Two 1984-built Montego Black WR urquattros in one place! It was great catching up with Andrew and Justine from Christchurch, on their way back from the Vintage Car Club rally and well-timed for the day we went to Covid Red traffic light setting.
  8. Looking tiny...
  9. I wrote a little story. https://inoneear.substack.com/p/robs-audi-quattro?r=db0vk&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web Planning to do some interviews and build this into something. Tell people's stories of their cars. More about the person and the relationship with the car than the car itself.
  10. Good question! Part of me wants to do it, part of me says removing a gearbox is too much of a PITA without a hoist and all the right tools.
  11. Rear seals, 8 days from US to New Zealand from Pelican Parts.
  12. Old Audi accessories that don’t fit the Urquattro because they’re for an 80. Make them fit, or find them a new home? I think they look cool.
  13. Little fixes with parts from Classic Quattros The seat lever was missing an internal metal clip and was cracked so it kept falling off. The interior light switch button kept falling off.
  14. Yep The new house is a rental, but we're building one to move into late this year which will have a similar garage (actually 1m wider!), and 4 acres where I'm planning a 6x10m shed when budget allows.
  15. Checking out where the remaining oil leak is. It’s not that clear from the photos but it seems to be coming from between the back of the block and gearbox. So I’m thinking rear main seal. That’s also the only one I haven’t replaced yet. Parts are on their way.
  16. Not my house New garage Never really took much notice of this switch under the bonnet until now. Of course it has no wire connected, a paint mark around it and two random holes. Standard for this car. Presumably from that old alarm I pulled out. Finally got the glovebox fitted better. And more Dynamat for reduction of vibrations. Little photo stop Also this happened
  17. Breakdown on the school run! At least it was an easy fix. Walking back to the car with my daughter I was all "What you need to make an engine go is fuel, air and spark..." and she was all "whatever dad your car is rubbish when it breaks."
  18. Not really hard to remove or re-fit. Old cars are pretty basic.
  19. It’s in! Very pleased.
  20. Refurbished head liner collected from Kohl Customs Can’t wait to get it back in the car.
  21. Itching to take it for a drive but it keeps raining and I have no sunroof as it’s away being re-trimmed.
