  1. Haha yeah fair enough! it’s pretty remote and cold. Yes we stayed in Ohakune, drove up to Turoa then lunch at the tavern by the chateau then up to Whakapapa and back. Lots of photo stops and banter. Lots of drizzle and mist It snowed the following weekend.
  2. Taking inspiration from Gears and Gasoline for the jobs list...
  3. Some epic photos from other Wookies attendees
  4. Exactly!
  5. About 20% kinda works but it still keeps bubbling back and if I don't stop pumping for a sec it goes on the floor.
  6. Oh and I got an award !
  7. Day 3 - home. All went well on the run home until about 10km away on Transmission Gully in heavy rain and spray I started having boost issues over 3000RPM. One to investigate once I have time. Wookies itself was awesome - just a weekend driving around, hanging out with car people, eating and drinking and just having a chill time.
  8. Day 2 - the main event! Rusty ran really well. The clutch and gear shift feel much better, handling and steering are massively improved too. The car sounds great, and had no real issues. Patrizia started telling me "Brake system defective" but everything felt right, no actual brake issues, so I temporarily unplugged the sensor on the brake bomb to shut her up. https://i.imgur.com/uAtQMYY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/o2mRenm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/x3eJe3Z.jpg https://i.imgur.com/kMrpKnX.jpg https://i.imgur.com/FxctYip.jpg
  9. Soo the Wookies weekend! The Christchurch and Wellington crews met at Mana BP - which was a financially painful hour or so - it took me about 30 mins to get 71 litres in - I need to look at the tank vents again. I've checked everything over but either something's still blocked or kinked, or there's a design flaw here! And I ended up being last-minute transport for a set of 19" BBS wheels from a Golf. Next stop Bulls, then Taihape, then Ohakune. On the way to Taihape my speedo was playing up, only reading when pressing the accelerator, going to zero when coasting. It made keeping to the speed limit down hills a bit tricky. I did a bit of soldering in the BP car park and it was better on the next leg but not perfect. Bit more soldering later on and things improved, though it still occasionally read whatever it wanted occasionally
  10. But on the bright side there are no drips on my drip tray this morning.
  11. Second biggest bill this car has given me!! The biggest being rust and paint.
  12. Gulp... Plus $1550 clutch and about $400 in other parts. So $8kish, or a little over 4,000 English pounds
  13. Rusty is home! Just in time for an 800km weekend of driving for #witwnz setting off tomorrow. And a couple of quick repairs. The invoice was 5 pages long !
  14. So far that I know of in this chunk of work: gearbox out, replace rear main seal, replace clutch slave, remake leaking clutch line, replace all gearbox input and output seals, replace leaking rear diff seals, repair wobbly gear linkage, replace gearbox output shaft bearing, new clutch friction disc and bearing, machine flywheel, rebuild pressure plate, wheel alignment, fix various wiring issues, new dizzy cap, remake main coil lead, check timing, troubleshoot and fix firing issue, remake leaking low pressure power steering line. Oh yeah and welding that mount. Probably more stuff. I could have bought a nice reliable older Suzuki Swift for what the bill will be.
  15. We are getting there! Various fixes to wiring and one new sensor have got the car starting and running. Everything is back together. Lots of leaks fixed, lots or repairs done. The final hurdle to pass a Warrant of Fitness is a cracked gearbox mount which they are testing to see if it can be welded.
  16. Love these barn finds. That one is in spectacular condition considering.
  17. Parts have arrived from Pelican Parts in the US. Hope I ordered the right stuff!!
  18. Brand new old stock heater core! A friend came across these in Christchurch and I thought it best to grab one while I could, as mine didn’t look great when I last saw it.
  19. Quick call to drop off parts and check the slave cylinder is correct - it is
  20. Yes it was. That is very cool!
  21. More parts. These ones from Classic Quattros in the UK. Great service as always and really quick delivery.
  22. Mmm shiny new clutch parts. New bearing and friction disc, machined flywheel and rebuilt pressure plate courtesy of WAGS - Your Gearbox and Performance Shop
