Hi, I recently bought a 1.9tdi Fabia on an 03 - for years I have driven various petrol cars, and always changed the oil every 6 months.
Would like to do the same with the fabia. I drive about 6k miles a year. However, I have been lead to believe that my car may have a variable service setting. Meaning I wouldn't need to change the oil routinely.
Is there a way of checking whether my car is on variable service? Plus, what would happen if I did a DIY oil change every 6 months? Of course would use the correct oil.
(Sorry, would have posted in the ask a tech section, but dont seem to have the clearance)
Cheers

Sorry if i sound a bit thick here but what does "Variable Servicing" mean? is it like you cant service after 10K then service after 6K then another service after 8K?
I have never understood not only what this mean, but the implications of not complying..... for example my fabia had a full service in September, I only do approx 5000 miles around town etc. I was thinking of doing a "DIY lube service" after 6 months & using Quantum oil (VW's) but have been a put off slightly about variable service

Hi,
From the threads already on here about oil, it seems that the choice of oil for a PD engine is critical.
I want to carry out an oil change @ home, & wonder which oil products people use for their PD engines - I hear Quantum PD oil maybe a good one.
There doesnt seem to be many readily available on the high street & the ones that are out there are a tad expensive.
Would appreciate any ideas, cheers.

Did you get this sorted with changing the fuse? I have the same problem on 1.4 petrol fabia, changing the fuse has made no difference. Sure I have read somewhere that there is a microswitch in the lock assembly that may need changing.....

Hi, not sure whats it's correct name is, but I assume that there is a switch or sensor that detects when the door is open & beeps when you leave the lights on.....it appears to be a common fault, and mine has gone. Rang Skoda and it's a whopping £150 to change. Does anyone have any experience of doing a DIY job? It isn't in the Hayes Manual, so not too sure how complicated it is.
Any experiences would be welcome.

MY 1st Skoda was a 1.4 petrol classic. Thoroughly enjoyed it. A very functional car. Not the fastest, and wont be the most economical. However, they are steady as a rock.
I can vouch for the lumpy idling, very odd at first. But had very few problems. Keep up with the services! Also seems that the air con packing in is a common problem. Mine went a microswitch was needed at about 120 sniffs.

Hi,
I have a Fabia on an 03 plate. It has the standard tape deck installed.
I need a CD player, and I see the Symphony cd/mp3 players on the likes of ebay - does anyone have an opinion of them? Plus, the mp3 side of things, is it that they play mp3 cd's or that an auxiliary unit can be attached, such as an ipod?

Just bought a 2003 fabia 1.9tdi elegance estate - 80k on the clock. Full service history, new cam belt at 60k. In very good nick. Engine seems to be in good order.

Been looking for a bigger car, and this morning test drove a 1.9tdi Octavia ambience estate. 2004 plate with 87k on the clock.
My Fabia (2001 Classic 1.4 with 47k) + £3,400 seems to be the asking price.
In silver, full service history and one owner. Requires a good service, new clutch & possibly a new cam belt. All will be done prior to sale. No extra charge. Local & trustworthy independent Skoda garage.
No experience with Octavia's - does this sound a reasonable deal?

I can strongly recommend Marks & Spencer: I have been quoted £308 for a 1.4 2001 classic fabia - includes legal protection, protected NCB, £250 excess, european cover & comprehensive breakdown cover with the RAC (includes homestart). Seems a lot of cover for the money.

Went for a DAB radio/MP3 player; stylish windscreen aerial now attached!

I have exactly the same problem with a 2001 1.4. I presumed a seal was going etc.
Oil Sump leak - need a new one
in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Posted
I have a 1.9tdi Fabia 2003 estate. Discovered a leak from the sump, looks like a new one is in order. Local Skoda garage want £120 for sump & seal + vat + labour. Didint even get onto oil.
Anyone out there replaced there own sump? I notice on ebay & partner sites, sumps can be bought for as little as £40. Looks like a relatively straight forward job.
Cheers
