  1. No they aren't thats what his problem is, the boss sits about 2" lower than on the 2010 models.

As for the OP, Autoglass are never goign to replace a windscreen that you never had. If you want a top tint, that wasn't on your car they will fit it, but will want you to pay for it. Your insurers will only pay for a like for like replacement

    Thanks all for your replies.

I have decided that I will have the earlier type Top Tint screen, accept that there will be some wiring exposed and sort out tidying that myself with some sleeving.

I do understand that replacement is on a like for like - but the issue is that I am the customer and I am asking for a Top Tint screen and of course ultimately if there is a price difference, then I will have to consider that.

But, first off, I was just trying to ascertain the availability!

Incidentally, with our fleet insurance cover, the windscreen replacement excess is £250 :'(

    John.

  2. Will your VIN not have the tinted screen coded to it - just like all other options the car was built with. Just because it's no longer supplied as standard doesn't mean they can't supply you one...

The problem is that the car was supplied without a top tint screen - if they order a new screen as per my VIN, it is going to call up a screen without Top Tint as per the vehicle build!

Incidentally, so much for Autoglass getting back to me on Monday - now Friday and nothing more heard from them; maybe my job was just too much trouble :-)

    John.

  3. Not sure whether this was actually revealed in a previous the post titled AutoWindscreens - I did quickly trawl though the 4 pages.

I have a 2010 L&K - at some stage Skoda have deleted the top tint on the windsceen, which I actually find really useful in cutting down glare, especially when the sun is low.

Now I have a big crack in the screen, Time to get a replacement!

So, get on to Autoglass, tell them that I have a 2010 Octavia and that I need a replacement top tint windscreen.

Job booked in, fitter turns up only to tell me he has the wrong screen - it has a top tint, but as I have rain sensor, the mirror will mount too low down and leave wiring exposed from the headliner! (As oserved in OP early post!)

He was very helpful and said he would have to re-book the job and would research other screens and see if he could find a top tint version.

Bottom line is that the depot then phoned me and said they would have to order a screen from Skoda dealer against my VIN no. which means I won't get a top tint screen!

Does anyone have any further info on whether a top tint screen might be available for 2010 Octavia with rain sensor?

I am almost considering accepting the original top tint screen, (providing rain sensor position is the only issue) and then sort out sleeving the rain sensor wiring afterwards.

  5. I am sorry to put up yet another post on DRL & Cornering Lights.

As standard there is no option on my Maxidot to enable/disable these functions.

A friend of mine with Vagcom VCDS has tried to programme these for me today.

In Central Electrics, Long Coding - the only option for DRL is a tick box for daylight running. With this checked I get front dipped headlamps only and no option on Maxidot to enable/disable. What I wanted was to use the DRL lamps in the front fogs.

No option shown for cornering lamps.

Did, have an option for Emergency braking hazards which we selected.

Can anyone offer any advice - is there a further section to enable a choice of DRL lamps? and where the cornering lamp select may be?

Some time ago, there was a post with screen dumps for thes eoptions, but I can't find it on a search.

    Thanks,

    John.

  8. I like that better! stays in the car but zipped up out of sight... nice solution.

Golf-Fiend - thanks for the parenting tips. Do you think you could play I-spy for 3 hours straight with a 3yr old? We already do a bunch of stuff - this is just as an extra option, and most likely to be used when offspring #2 (11 months old) is asleep.

    A word of warning here!

I got a pair of Xtron 9 inch screen headrests from eBay for around £170 and although they work OK, they were not very comfortable for front seat occupants, as you can't adjust the angle.

Also, as I did, (but too late before I spent the money) - you have to consider that a headrest is a safety feature of the car and designed to prevent whiplash if you get rear ended.

I am not very confident that most of these cheapo replacements incorporating DVD screens would be very effective - one of my Xtrons units mounting post pulled out, so would have offered no safety restraint.

I have now removed them and had a Rosen 8 inch screen roof mount DVD player fitted - much better quality, but obviously involves some headliner modification, so will need to stay in the car on disposal.

  9. Has anyone found a way to stop the LED DRL's dimming when you switch the lights to the side light position, Surely if you switch your side lights on it's because the you need to be seen better and the LED's should be at there normal bright position.

It's often the case when your clearly visible from the front because the DRL are bright but you need the rear lights on so you have to put the side lights on.

I have access to VCDS but wouldn't know where to look

With all due respect, I think that if the light is that poor, you should only be considering switching on your headligjhts anyway!

Sidelights are only marker lamps for when you are stationary.

  10. Just be aware that the guard seems to double in size the moment you get it out of the car and try to store it somewhere!!!

Too true - I must say that I do like the guard on the Volvo V70 that swivels up out of the way aginst the headliner.

That is good design where someone has actually taken the trouble to think about how a vehicle might be used!

    John.

  11. Kind of.

It sounds like you're happy with yours. If so, I'll look at getting theskodashop's guard and fit it myself.

    Hi,

Yes I am happy with mine - its a bit of a puzzle to initially fit, but onnce done its great.

By the way, if you need to remove it to use the full load space, it only requires 2 plastic knob headed screws to be undone, then it just unslots from the lower locating lugs and lifts out - about 2 mins work

If you want to see an image of it, go to Skoda UK web site, Dowload brochure and Octavia accessories.

Skoda Part No: DMM 620 001 £104.00 inc VAT from your nearest Skoda dealer (probably have to order it, but usually for next da\y collection).

    John.

  12. Thanks for the replies guys.

Does the genuine Skoda fit without any modification to the interior? and does it need removing if you drop the seats?

One of the impoertant aspects of the original guard is that you can still use the lretracting load cover.

The only slight problem is the the guard fouls the lift up cover top the tray that sits under the cover.

You can fold the seats dowen to slide long loads under the guard, no problem.

To fit the uprights, they clamp onto load retaining loops on the floor - if you have a false floor, then you have to remove the side skids to get access to fit and tighten the clamps.

To remove the skids, you need to twist 1/2 turn on the big rtings in the narrow section on outside of the skids.

    Hope this makes sense!

    John.

  13. My Dealer has told me that to supply (and fit) a dog guard to my Scout is £165, which to me seems steep.

The equivalent Travall guard seems to be £119.

Having searched on Briskoda the Travall guards seem to be respected. Has anyone fitted a travall to their Octavia, or have an opinion on the official Skoda one?

You can buy the Skoda original accessory item for £102 inc. VAT.

Then with the help of people on this forum to explain the instructions, (which are anything but clear!) you can fit it in around 30-40 minutes - job done.

    I speak from experience.

    John.

  14. Simple question.

I got in the car (Octy Scout) last night to go out & the door mirrors were folded in. I asked the good lady why she folded them in on the drive & she had just got out of the car & locked it so how did she do it, can you automatically turn the mirrors in as you lock the car as it seems quite a useful feature. The mirror switch was set on L as normal to use the dipping mirror when reversing.

Hi Stuart - If you have electric folding mirrors, when locking the car, keep lock button on remote depressed until mirrors start to fold in.

Incidentally, when you switch on ign, mirrors will fold out, but you need to allow them to do this before you start the car, otherwise they end up half in/out!

    John.

  15. Hi am fitting a nokia ck7w car kit and wonder if anyone can help me with this.

Where should I connect the blue ignition feed to. car is an 08 vrs.

    thanks

    Ifor

You can find a switched +ve feed on the fuse box - behind the o/s end dash panel. The fuse box is secured by 2 torx head screws, one at top & bottom.

You can identify a wire (can't remember colour) that is live when ign switched on and with engine running, but not when key off. I cut the insulation off hte wire a bit further back from the fuse box, then twisted a wire on and soldered/insulated the connection.

It's easier to do this by dropping the o/s underdash panel:

Remove the coloured trim strips carefully - they just unclip - this will reveal the torx head screws that hold the top.

Remove the light switch - turn it off, push in anticlockwise and then it simmply pulls out.

There is also a screw lower down.

You will probably need to remove the OBD port as the wiring is very short - this unclips; insert a small screwdriver in the space above and blow port skt to release the clips.

    H.T.H

    John.

Just remembered - I should mention that it is not possible to find a feed that stays on with the "key in" position - unless you use a CAN bus adaptor.

  16. Hmm, I think the car kit is setup to be always "on" with no way to disable, save physically unplugging it.

I've got a HTC Touch Diamond2 (basically non keyboard version of the TP2) and if you go the Settings Tab and then Wireless Controls, there's a toggle button there for Bluetooth. If you think you need to turn bluetooth on and off that much you can always map a button to it directly as a shortcut. (e.g. I've setup a long press of the answer call button to take me straight to the Wireless Controls Menu - but thats predominantly for toggling Wi-Fi).

    Niall

I can only say for GSM III which uses rSap - you control it from the MFD.

Here you have the ability to switch the GSM III off if you want to as well as customising the set up, such as ring tone & volume, how contacts are displayed (e.g. first name, last name or last name, first name) etc.

Also, you can receive sms text on the car unit - it will alert you in nte MFD display.

You can then read it and if required copy it to the portable SIM card.

There are also options for GPRS modem, headset etc. but I haven't investigated these yet!

Lastly, you can voice tag memories (contacts), but I haven't got round to findiong out how you voice dial.

    John.

  17. I must be getting too impatient waiting for delivery of my 1.4TSI Elegance Estate (ordered 20th February, built on 8th April). Having been told that it had arrived at Grimsby on 12th April I was becoming alarmed at how long it seemed to be in transit to the dealer - had it been damaged? - had it 'disappeared'? I was told yesterday that the information I had ben given was wrong - the car had arrived at Emden on 21st April and was on a ship that had left for Grimsby on the 22nd (yesterday). I remembered seeing a posting from about being able to track the shipping movements and the names of two of the ships - SCHELDE HIGHWAY and ISCAR HIGHWAY. Googling 'SCHELDE HIGHWAY' took me to the MarineTraffix.com website. Selecting 'Ports' and 'Emden' showed that a K-Line vehicle transporter called the MAIN HIGHWAY had just left bound for Grimsby. Selecting 'MAIN HIGHWAY' brought up a map showing the ships position, course and speed - oddly fascinating. Looking again I know that MAIN HIGHWAY docked in Grimsby at 12.14 today - so hopefully my car is now in the country at least.

No doubt it will take forever to get from Grimsby to the dealers. Am I being realistic in hoping that it will reach them (in the Midlands) by the middle of next week and be ready for collection on 1st May?

Yes - But, did it show you whereabouts your car was on the ship?? :smirk:

    John.

  18. Do I get a Net Partition in my new VRS estate?

ie this from the owners manual

    8x3d09.gif

    No you definitely don't!!

I have never managed to find it as an accessory item either.

The only item you can get is the metal mesh dog guard, cost £104 - warning though, even with the supplied instructions you need a degree (and assistance from fellow Briskodians!) to fit the bl**dy thing.

    John.

  19. Does anyone know if you can get an original fit DAB radio for a new Octavia? I see that if you buy a new Golf you can spec a DAB radio as an upgrade for a touchscreen radio which looks essentially the same as the Bolero.

    Hi Colsay,

I have done some research on this - unfortunately Skoda are not offering a DAB option as yet.

As you say, VW already do & have done for some time!

I have not been able to find anyone offering a VW DAB module or retrofit service for integrated DAB as yet.

I also want DAB in my Octavia, but don't want a Pure Highway or similar add on - I am trying to keep my car looking uncluttered an as standard as possible (this time round!)

There will be pressure on all manufacturers to offer DAB in the run up to 2013 when all vehicles supplied must have it - this is in the run up to the switch off of FM broadcasting.

So, I am hopeful (or overly optimistic, maybe) that Skoda will be offering an integrated retrofit solution - but not holding my breathe on this one!

    John.

  20. Here's the fixing at the bottom of the strut, onto the lashing tie:

As you can see, it doesn't seem to fit correctly on the cut-out. I had to loosely attach the fitting before positioning the strut otherwise I couldn't get the screw into the strut. So, loosely fit the clamp, fit the strut and tighten clamp. It's quite possible I have this fitted incorrectly given I had no instructions, but it's the only way I could see to get it on.

Here's the top showing how the strut hooks over the U clamp that retains the rear seat:

The "guard" portion then attaches to the two struts and is fixed in place with a thumbscrew (visible) on each side.

The guard portion may be easily removed by undoing the two thumbscrews and lifting out (30 second job) allowing the full height of the load bay to again be accessible with the back seats folded down. The two struts may be left permanently in place once fitted.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Phil,

Thanks very much for the images - from studying the first one, can I assume that you haven't got the false floor fitted?

The instructions say to "unlock the intermediate floor, fold it and slip it out of the skids" - I will check it again, but it looked like there wouldn't be enough clearance under the strut (when in place) to get the allen key in , as the "skid" is very close!

Anyway, I will check it again and report back on how I get on.

    Cheers,

    John.

    Cheers,

  21. I have the Skoda dog guard fitted to a FL estate.

On mine, the struts slot over the U blot that retains the back seats at the top and then clamp onto the eye at the bottom. The guard then slots onto the two struts and is fastened by two thumb screws, one each side.

afaik there's no difference between FL and pre-FL dog guards - the same guard fits all (mk II) models.

    Hi Phil_P,

Since you have the Skoda dog guard and have successfully fitted it - can I ask you for some guidance on fitting?

I have bought one, byt the instructions that come with it have absolutely pathetic illustrations!

I understand the principle of the upright struts and what they do - but what is not clear is the bottom location.

It would appear that the small lugs locate on the lashing ring? at the base - but there are 2 x platic blocks with srews that obviously attach to the base of the struts, however, each block has a cut away on one edge and I just can't work out how this is supposed to be orientated!

Should this block, (whichever way round it goes), be fitted to the base of the strut before it is fitted in place?

I normally have no problems with this kind of thing - honest!

    Thanks.

    John.

  22. That comment means I have to think even harder of a reason not to upgrade my Bolero to a Columbus.... Damn you man, couldn't you have kept quiet :)

That's relatively easy - think around £1300 and no full postcode entry!!

Columbus is way too expensive for what it offers.

Seriously - I did consider a Columbus, but just too expensive.

Although it has to be an add on item, (i.e not integrated in the dash) a TomTom GO750 Live at £190 is actually a much, much better nav device.

    John.
