  1. Following on from previous posts, I have now done 9500 miles and The Canton has come to life. I assume the speakers and the sub did indeed need to bed in and loosen up. The sound is right up there with my old L&K now and music sounds great - certainly I couldn't have the sub at 9 anymore whereas before it seemed to make no difference where it was set!
  2. Delayed reply but I too located this sub today. I had the L&K with Canton and sub in rear left compartment previously and the sub is nowhere near as capable in the iV. However...I remember thinking the Canton was poor when I first got my my67, especially compared to the demo car I'd had for three days. I think like all high end audio the speakers may well need to bed in, as 5k miles in with the iV I think the sound is getting better all the time. The sub still isn't as good but it's not like I'm there craving more bass... Then again I'm not really a fan of booming bass! Also, and I might be imagining it, to me the sound is massively better using Spotify through the media player than Spotify on Android Auto... Anyone else found that?? It's strange because you can now easily access the Canton EQ while playing Android Auto or Media from the pull down menu, and it seems to think it's playing Dolby Pro Logic II for both. Perhaps Android auto plays at a lower bit rate??
  3. I'm thinking about this...I think the Business Grey looks better than the Quartz Grey with the black wheels in my opinion. Silver also looks great potentially but I don't want to go with silver.
  4. The only issue with any work around solution for me is that I have a separate work and personal phone. Whenever you use Android Auto you can only be connected to that phone for calls... The BT connection no longer works. Without AA the Columbus connects to both phones which has been amazing. To be honest, I usually have to stop after 5 mins to reboot Android Auto...great when it works but Spotify works about 50% of the time currently. The Columbus is so good I hardly use AA to be honest. Also, I think the sound is better using 'Media' as it uses the Dolby Pro Logic II - I don't think Android Auto seems to... Possibly it's just my imagination.
  5. Hi there. My take on this, and it's just a guess is that travel assist integrates all of the systems including predictive ACC. Selecting ACC on is own will require you to monitor road signs and manually adjust your speed. Travel assist will spot the speed limit change and automatically change your ACC speed. There's also adaptive lane assist now as well as part of it...lord knows what that does. I seem to remember seeing that the new Passat had a semi-autonomous motorway driving mode so maybe it is part of that.
  6. I know this is a personal preference but I opted for the rear wiper. It's just really useful...when the rear window is covered in water, or when it has been frozen and the rear screen has half defrosted, you can miraculously 'wipe' the rear window without getting out of the car! Who knew!? Haha Joking aside though, I don't think it looks too bad and I have played around with trying not to use it to see what it would have been like without one...even though my car was autoglymed (I assume this will work the same as it's an Aquaphobic coating??) I find that particularly when in heavy rain, the rear visibility is often diminished massively by water pouring off the roof of the car. Also, perhaps it may be something that could affect resale-ability...only Skoda will know the stats on how many do/don't want it but my guess would be that more do in the UK. I think the only reason we get the choice is indeed aesthetic - in the same way as they attempted with the twin-door, markets such as the German market are very much biased toward saloons...no wiper makes the aesthetics look more this way and suits them because they don't normally have one. Most people worried about the aesthetics presumably come from driving saloons such as 3 Series, A4, or C-Class. Personally I just think it's one of the things that sum up how good Skoda are that they give us the choice (presuming they then deliver the right thing).
  7. Just some comments that I've noticed... It's definitely rate dependent from my experience. At my parents they have one of those bushes with very droopy leaves at the entrance to their drive...basically, you have to drive through it to get out with no risk of damage to the car. I've done this many times but one time when in a rush, it jammed on the brakes...scares you to death at the time! Another time when I was trying to work out when it was on or off (touch screen button when parking sensors are up on the 8.9" Columbus) I was able to reverse very gently into a suitably soft hedge. I suspect if I'd reversed back at the hedge more quickly it would have braked the car. So, I guess it's there to help you not damage the car without being too intrusive all the time. The one that gets me is when I'm parallel parking on the main road I live on...the system that is supposes to detect cars when you're reversing out of a car parking space kicks in and the car lurches to a halt if a car safely drives up the road past me! I think that might only be on the L&K models maybe?? Also, I'm sure that I've found if you just tap the accelerator once the car will then creep. I'll check next time I'm in it??
  8. One thing I would say is that my Canton sounded pretty average compared to the car I'd test driven when I first got it. Now mine has got to about 4000 miles it's sounding the same! I think it sounds fantastic now so don't be too quick to swap bits out if it's a brand new car. The noise 'cancellation' can't work as well as say BOSE headphones but you just become aware that you can hear your music better than normal. Admittedly I'm in a Superb but I am on 19" alloys to be fair.
  9. I updated the Sat Nav... It's really straight forward other than needing a spare large SD card. The website opens a downloader that manages the huge download and then (and I find this out after doing the 50 minutes in the car option) it can upgrade in the background while you use the car as normal. So, if you do a one hour journey it carries on as you use the system like normal. I don't use the Google maps because I need to use my phone's data having not ordered it. I never remember to turn the hotspot on in my phone so can't help you there. I just leave the brake on auto. I think it works great until you get in a car without it again! Haha
  10. While we're on a change of subject, is everyone aware that there are two clever boot dividers hidden inside the left hand cubby hole in the boot. I don't know if this is with all specs but they unclip off the inside of the flap and then you fold them to 90 degrees and velcro them to the boot floor to partition it off. I'd seen them on a video review and just assumed they hadn't come with my car but I noticed them when looking at the subwoofer last week.
  11. I have Google remember my username and password. However, the web page always greys out login for me until I click in one of the boxes. Once I do that it's ok. I can confirm the webpage is working fine for me.
  12. My Skoda Connect app is doing the same but I suspect it's a coincidence. I'm pretty sure I've used it since my car was in the dealership.
  13. Looking elsewhere, 91R2 is something to do with making the functionality of the Connect Services more reliable. It's something to do with the new three buttons near the sunglasses holder.
  14. I'm pretty sure from memory that before mine were fixed, the lights would run their routine whenever the first stage ignition was pressed. Hence, if you let it get that bit further through it before starting the engine there was never an issue but if the engine fired part way through they'd get stuck - this usually only happened when the car was cold and the engine fired that second later than when warm. Now, I'm almost certain (I'll need to double check) that a first press of the ignition doesn't initiate the routine. Only after the engine has started does the entire routine happen. They used to do a small amount of left right but now it's a very definite left right.
  15. Whether they work first time usually seemed to depend on how warm the engine was in my experience. It's usually when the engine is properly fully cold like it is first thing in the morning that the glow plug heats for longer causing the engine to fire a second later and interrupt the light reset sequence. Hope they get the update sorted for you this time OK though.
  16. They didn't tell me what the update was. I would suggest you get you dealer to call Bickerton Skoda in Sheffield and ask their service department. Are you sure that your dealer doesn't know what the fix is now? It could be that the fix wasn't available from Skoda the last time you had it booked in. Also, did they see it in the error state? I it possibly did help that mine was exhibiting the fault when I got to the dealership. PS: it hasn't been cold enough to be 100% sure, but I'm pretty certain that mine are fixed now. They certainly behave fundamentally differently. They do most of the reset now after the engine has fired and as I said before the process is much more akin to my old Superb II.
  17. Have you thought of using the Eco mode Facet!?? It's pretty good in congestion! Joking aside, the same argument could be made about why you saved your money on getting the spec that you did. I think you've answered your own question. Also, I suspect, and don't know for certain but the Eco mode is probably less 'sluggish' with a Diesel due to the larger amount of low end torque. I don't find mine gets me onto the back of Mabel's 1.0l Ford Ka econetic any faster in other modes in reality...I may as well coast there and save some pennies! Haha
  18. Penpusher, if you get chance could you have a look in the manual on the mode selection page and see if yours has the notice that I posted saying this was now the standard behaviour?
  19. I asked at the dealer yesterday if the key could be programmed to do this. How did you do it? Are you saying that in yours the gearbox always comes on saying E1 instead of D1 as well in the Maxidot display. My car remembers the last drive mode but the gearbox always chooses D instead E even though the individual is set to Eco for drive.
  20. I think it mitigates against a heavy right foot so you have to press the pedal further to use more fuel. Also, you have to change your driving style to predict earlier when to lift and coast. I kinda got used to this because I've come from an E-Class hybrid... The difference is that the DSG properly coasts so can maintain speed better. If you use adaptive cruise it doesn't coast at all and pretty much all the benefit is gone.
  21. Hi, just to say that I came across this reselect of D in the manual... Apparently that's how it has been designed to work. It's bizarre to me. Why let you individually set car parameters only to have to set them again each time. Interestingly, the car thinks it's in Individual for example but the drive mode isn't set to Eco if that's what's chosen, as you clearly already know.
  22. Well, if it is the same issue, I found that pressing the ignition once, waiting for the lights to come back up and then pressing my foot on the brake and pressing start again would prevent me getting a problem. Hope that helps!?
  23. Did it actually have the software update done though?
  24. No, on the piece of paper I have been given it just says "Check for headlights not finishing cycle and pointing down. Confirmed complaint and carried out software update." I had two other minor glitches with one of the steering wheel rollers and the torch in the boot. Issued parts are listed for these repairs. No parts are listed other than these so it must just be software. If it helps, my car was taken to Bickerton's Skoda in Sheffield. They could contact them to find out more details maybe?
  25. Repeating a post on the other page regarding this: OK, just back from the dealership having had my car in for this issue. Beautifully, the headlights pointed at the ground when I started it from cold this morning at dusk so I was able to get the technician to plug it in before I switched it off. I'm not sure if it revealed an error but they have applied the software update. Apparently their technician had to fill in an extra report for Skoda than he would normally have to do as this is an issue they are monitoring more closely than others. I don't doubt that something has changed. As was mentioned previously, the dance of the headlights is now much more varied and reminiscent of the old system in my Superb II with more left/right movements than before. I'll try it again in the morning from cold but it's definitely different. Also, and I could be wrong, I think that they don't do a full reset pattern now on a single ignition press. I'm pretty sure they did before. Fingers crossed!
