  1. {Occasional lurker alert} What a handy thread to find at the top of the forum - I wondered what my new CC GT was up to a couple of times recently when I've parked up. Really strong burning smell and the fan going full tilt - makes sense now
  2. I managed to sit in the VRS TDI in the showroom at Furrows (Shrewsbury) Skoda, but due to lack of time on my part, had to make do with making chug-chug, brum-brum noises. Looked good in the race blue but I did feel Skoda have been a bit cheap not providing any steering wheels controls for audio etc. If the Leon FR can have them, why not the VRS? Heck, even the 1.2 Corsa we hired in Ireland for a couple of days had them.
  3. I'm off to look at the tractor powered VRS today, now I've found a dealer who actually has one in. Getting a test drive on a Sunday is like pulling teeth though. I'm keen to see how the 170 lump drives compared to the 130 in my Ibiza. My head does suggest going for a one year old PD140 Elegence at £12.5k though I do keep peeking at a slightly older 330d I've seen... What sort of figures does the petrol VRS return on longer runs? I regulary do the A55 into North Wales and at 70 to 80mph my Ibiza will easily return over 50mpg which is much easier on the wallet when you're doing 25,000 miles (or more) a year.
  4. This (FR TDI vs VRS TDI) I'm something I'm mulling over at present. Question though - the VRS has a "3 spoke sport steering wheel". Is this a multi-function jobbie for stereo control? If you go for Maxidot, is this controlled via a stalk or steering wheel?
  5. I think the problem is explained... I popped into the local Seat dealer to get some more 505.01 oil and asked if one of their tech's would look at it. He had me rev the car with the bonnet open and quickly decided there's a hole in the boost pipe as he could hear a sucking. New pipe ordered up. If the split is pointing to the back of the headlight, then I think it must have sprayed out. I checked the back of the headlight last night and it was pretty clean, so it's not getting sprayed with lots of oil. As for the oil around the filler cap - there is a bit of gunk around the hole. When the engine is cold (I looked this morning), it looks solid. After driving, the heat from the engine makes it runny(ish) again, so it looks like it could have come from the filler cap. I'm dipping the oil every morning now to keep tabs on consumption. Thanks all (and for letting me borrow you forum whist ours was down).
  6. It's far from a mist IMO and it's nasty to get off your hands with only soap!
  7. Thanks Rick. No, I don't think there was any oil left around the cap when I was doing the lights at lunch, then when I got to ABP there was some. There also looked to be a fresh deposit on the "shelf" under the intercooler pipe. Quite a film on the back of the headlight too.
  8. Stopped off at ABP on the way home (they did the last service). The oil is coming from the intercooler pipe. That should be dry, shouldn't it? We also spotted some oil around the filler cap that was fresh. Does the PD130 have an oil breather (is that the correct term?)? The guy who had a brief look at it thought that if that was blocked, oil could be passed through the turbo or past the filler cap. Alternatively, the seals in the turbo could be on their last legs, but why then the oil around the cap? I hope not as the seals went on the turbo on my Scooby
  9. Oh yes, mentioning which Ibiza would be handy. It's a PD130 tractor.
  10. Actually it's on my Ibiza but after some help whilst SC.net is down. Just been out to change a sidelight bulb on the drivers side and found, somewhat disturbingly, the back of the headlight cover (so inside the engine bay) is covered with a black, oily film. It's right above the SMIC. Just checked the oil level and it's well down, despite it being sub 1000 miles from the last service. What the heck is in that area which could leak / spray oil out? Help!
  11. Great efforts guys, I know what a Grade A ball-ache it is when a server gets compromised. I'd completely agree the only way to be sure the server is clean is to take off and nuke it from orbit. Or format it Means more downtime but so much better in the long run - you always find yourself questioning if anything was left running you didn't / couldn't spot.
  12. Other option to compare against is a Leon FR TDI which is the 170 lump as well. That's a decent spec as standard - dual zone climate being one.
  13. Hello Let me know how you get on with Awesome. I'm off to Cork for a few days on Saturday but on my return will be looking to get my bushes sorted out ASAP.
  14. Hi all, hope you don't mind, but I'm actually an Ibiza TDi Sport owner sneaking in from SeatCupra.net I'm wondering if there any many high mileage (around 100k miles or more) Fabia's about? I'm trying to get an idea if there's any potential surprises in store for me as I approach 100k. My car is a Jan 03 52-plate with 83,200(ish) miles on at present. My wallet is a bit :( this week with the 80,000 service (late I know but I've been away with work a lot). That threw up the need for new discs and pads, O/S/F front wishbone rear bush is dead (with the N/S bush not far behind it) and new tyres (which I was expecting soon but the uneven wear due to the bushes had killed the inside edges). Tyres I've had done and if I keep the car, I need to fix the bushes ASAP and change the brakes soon. The engine feels very strong and doesn't use much oil at all. Any information from folks with similar or more miles on their Fabia would be very gratefully received. Thanks, Chris. PS. Now I think about it, it's still on it's original clutch, so I wonder how much longer that might last. It doesn't slip at the moment...
  15. 52 reg Ibiza TDi trac'or driver here Popped in for a look round after a short but fun blast with a Fabia vRs on the A5 last night. Wondered if the owner was on here? Silver and the plate ends in FUD. Chris.
