  1. Hi,

I've had my car since new, a 2004 Fabia vRS 152,000 miles and no major problems.  Was toying with getting a new car, but decided to go for a new radio instead!

Anyway, Halfords fitted it and since then I've had a few problems and was looking for some help.

    • New Sony Stereo fitted
    • Two weeks later, find the battery totally discharged and the AA have to come to the rescue and find my wing mirrors to be on all the time (even when no key in the ignition)
    • I mention I recently had a new stereo, they look at the installation and slatie it i.e. loose wires not doing stuff j
    • Resolution to the mirror issue was to switch to left/right movement when the keys not in and this seems to have worked (mirrors cool all the time)
    • More recently I've found that with increasing frequency  the power steering light has been coming on (I normally just power off, then power back on to resolve)
    • Today I did my normal power on/power off and the clock reset its self, meaning that I think something else is draining the battery?

Now does anyone have any idea what might be going on and if indeed Halfords could have caused this issue?  The AA have confirmed the alternator/battery to be fine.

Thanks loads, any help would be amazing!

    John

  2. Hi,

For around 4 years not my aircon on my vRS has not been working. I got a dealership to diagnose (at £70) and they said it was the compressor. I bought a compressor on Ebay for £40 and had it fitted on Friday. WIth the gas recharge, fitting etc it came to £180.

According to them it's working, but how can I check? I switch it on and I get cold air anyway, one thing I did notice was that the revs did not change when the aircon was switched on, before i am pretty sure they picked slightly - maybe this is a winter thing, or an efficient compressor?

I was wondering what you guys would do to check that they have fixed? I have factored in that the replacement compressor might be dodgy.

    Thanks,

    John

  3. Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone would help me out, with how I should negotiate? I have a SEAT Ibiza 2001 for trade in and any cash for this would be good, as I just want it off my hands!

Am looking to get a 1.6 TDI SE 5 door and can see the target price on WhatCar says £11,531, but with the current VAT free offer, this comes in way below the Target Price.

I guess I am just looking to see what % I could knock off the offered price, or should I aim for a straight £500, £200 or whatever?

    Any help gratefully received!

    Thanks

  4. Hi,

My wife's Fabia wont start! You flick the ignition, it sounds like it's starting and then cuts out (with a low buzzing noise) - really strange.

I've had the RAC out and despite telling them we had the engine coil changed about 3 weeks ago, they think it's the immobiliser.

Firstly, do you guys think it is the immobilise (we have no second key).

Secondly, if you think it is the immobiliser, is it worth just scrapping it (being a 2001 car with 100,000 on the clock).

Any advice would be really good!

    Thanks!!

  5. Good afternoon all,

I took a friend out in my 2004 vRS last week for a driving lesson. Unfortunately he stalled the car and I think immediately after this warning lights appeared - namely the engine management light and a flashing coil.

I think that the likelihood is that the engine speed sensor did not like it and thus my car is showing an error. Might be wrong, and if you think I am, let me know.

Now, the next step, is 1, how can I confirm the error and 2, how can I clear it.

Rather than paying 20-30 at a garage, I was thinking of investing in my own diagnostic. I was just wondering what you guys would recommend? I have had a look on ebay and have seen some in the £15-£60 region, perhaps you could tell me which ones are good/bad etc, or other dealers who sell them?

    Key things to me are:

Ability to give me the error code

Have a way of finding out what the code means

Have a way in which I can clear the code.

Any help, would be really really good!!

    Thanks,

    John

  6. I've had my lovely Fabia vRS from new, it's 8 years old and I've done 115k miles.

Half of me thinks I should think of changing it, as it has a few niggles and the other half thinks, well I've looked after it and it's still a very good car.

    What would you do:

    8 years old

    115K on the clock

    Needs new bushings

The front passenger lock never works first thing in the morning

The rear screen wash has become detached (yet again!)

The condensation is really annoying (and I'll have to soon defrost in and outside soon)

    The aircon compressor is knackered

5K or so from a new timing belt

Stick or twist, considering I've got maybe £600 or so to find quite soon + there might be other nasties lurking in the not too distant (never had a new clutch, turbo, gearbox etc (it has been a very reliable car!)
