  1. Send your liquid back for a software update for it to work on your diesel.

Leaves me feeling inadequate with my A3 tdi, from the graphs you can see that my boost has topped out before I get to 2k rpm so the torque flattenes off, but on yours it looks like boost is still building up to about 2300rpm resulting in much higer mid range torque, and holding higher boost at high rpm to get te higher peak bhp.

The best way is in 3rd gear, with the revs at 1krpm, foot light on the gas, then select dyno, continue as before for a few seconds, then, as soon as the digits apear in the bhp/torque value boxes, put your foot to the floor as quickly as possible and then hold to the red line. You can see me do it at then end of this video. Before starting select the most appropriate scale for your bhp and torque from the gauge displays.
  4. I was thinking that it would be a pain to have to switch to diesel each time the unit is plugged in, we can meet up at some point to set the default to diesel rather than petrol. Jim
  5. Guys, I do group buys on standard products, but this vent does not exist yet, Steve at SWG said that he would offer a discount depending on how many people wanted one. I don't want you to get the impression that I am not interested, the reverse is true.   6. Fire it back up to me and if its the heat glue that has softened, ill put a few dabs of araldite on it while updateing the software.
  7. FYI, the current version of software also lets you scale the graphs and gauges to 200,300,400 or 500 on bhp and torque independantly so that you can see more detial. Let me know if you want yours updated.
  8. When was the last time you saw two Rolling Roads that gave the same results? The liquid gives you consistancy so you know if you have improved something or of something is going wrong. I experimented with block 120 but decided against it as it give consistantly low torque figures, insted I went for the MAF method. For diesels it is the reverse.
  9. The formula is correct, "you canny change the laws of physics". But your plot is slightly odd they way the torque increase. It would be interesting to see some plot from other similar cars. Stock cars are normally set up to have a flat torque which makes them feel like they have a contant pull close to the red line. Mapped cars go for the max torque possible and have a peak at about 3k which tails off as the turbo runs out of puff. Here is an audi plot of the 225 1.8T engine, I guess yours will be similar. Compare that to a this hub coupled dyno. And finally my mapped 225, which is probably the sort of thing you were expecting..
  10. For petrol cars the bhp is calculated by MAF/0.8 Torque is then derived from the BHP and rpm. Torque = BHP*5252/rpm Thats it..
  11. If the max bhp is right then it sounds like your maf is ok. My mapped TT gives about 270lbft max on the TT while other are closer to 300lbft, I guess it is just the map I have. Can you do a dyno run and post up the picture.
  12. The troque is obtained in diffrent ways depending on whether you are using it with a petrol or diesel. For petrol it is calculated from the maf and rpm, for diesels it is taken directly from the engine ecu which provides it directly. It is possible to reverse the methods for either petrol or diesel (see the manual) and you will see a difference, however I think the default methods for each are the most accurate.

  14. Guys, If vag-com can't see the oil temp them the the liquid will not see it either, so for the time being I will not look at this any further. I will ask Steve at SWG the manufacturer of the plastics to comment here on any progress on that. Cheers Jim
  15. Just to let you know the liquid will not work on the MK2 Fabia yet. And you guys should all agree on which vent the unit should go in. Has anyone tried to remove any of the vents yet and have pictures.
  16. The issue is just the number of samples, in 3rd you will get more so are more likely to hit the peak number. I am not sure about going uphill, I guess it will give more samples but don't know what it will do to the actual peak performance number.

Here is a typical log which peaks at about 6k on my car and give an accurate indication of bhp, I have found that the block 120 method is more innacurate vs what I have measured on rolling roads. Here are a couple of logs from my car showing both calculation methods, at some point in the future I may allow the user o select the method they feel is best for their car.
  18. To see above about block ~25 you need at leat a registered version of the software. This cost $99 and works fine with the £10 cable I got off of ebay. For bhp, select block 2, and record a run in 3rd gear from 1krpm to the red line, your bhp = maf/0.8, plot on a graph in excel and the post it here. Ther is another way to get bhp from the torque estimate but I think it is less accurate.
  19. All the data except the g-force comes from either the engine management or dashboard ECU via the diagnostics port. Much of this data is not available using conventional OBD2 diagnostics testers as it is only available when using the proprietary VAG protocol. This protocol is used by vag-com. There are two ways to calculate BHP fromthe data available, either deriving it from the maf or the torque estimate from the engine ecu. I use BHP=MAF/.8 as it seems to be more reliable than the torques estimate from the engine ecu. The torque is the derived from the BHP, so torque = bhp * 5252 / rpm I put a bit of smothing on to the maf in these calculation to eliminate the spike inrush of air during the inlet perurising phase when the turbo first spins up as this was giving a torque overestimate on the earlier versions.
