  1. Yes. I think I remember reading that on this forum, but the reminder was appreciated anyway. The car was ex-fleet and was on variable service but we'd already decided to go down the fixed / annual service route. Cheers guys. (My fun car is a classic Alfa, I though the forum there was good - this forum is every bit as helpful)
  2. Many thanks, that worked a treat. Maybe it's me being particulalry thick but, for me, the manual doesn't make it obvious that you have to turn the clock set button immediately on releasing the odometer - either way, it's done. Cheers
  3. Hi. Not sure if this is the right forum (might need to be in the diagnostics section, if so - sorry). We recently had our Octy serviced by our usual non-dealer garage. He was as reliable as ever but didn't have the equipment to turn the service light off. I said not to worry because there are instuctions in the users manual. Ha! famous last words. I'm clearly doing something wrong - I've followed the instructions i.e. ignition off, hold in oddometer reset, ignition on, release reset and then nothing. I was expecting a menu to show allowing me to use the clock adjust button to turn the service back but the car just goes into it's normal start up sequence. Any suggestions would be most gratefully received (I know I can just ignore the reminder but that doesn't seem right somehow) Cheers Mike
  4. Thanks for the replies gentlemen. Sorry, I should have given more information - we took the car to the non-VAG garage we've used for years so the service light wasn't reset by them. I'd already considered ignoring the warning as an option but I don't think "the management" will go for it :-) - and it is her car after all. I've now downloaded the VAG-COM freeware version and my brother-in-law says he can make up a connector cable so I guess that's the way to go. As an aside, how much damage can an idiot like me do with the VAG-COM? (Sigh) We never had this trouble with the Estelle or the Favorit! Thanks again. Mike
  5. Hi all. This is my first post here - it looks like an interesting group. The Skoda owner in my family is my wife (Octavia 1.8 20V) but I have to say I'm as smitten with the car as she is. We have a slight problem. The car was on variable service intervals but we've just had it serviced with standard oil as we'd prefer the normal annual service approach. We've just started getting dash reminders to tell us the service is due in 1000 miles. I've tried carrying out the reset procedure as per the manual but nothing seems to be as described in the book. I've tried the ign off, push and hold trip button, ign on approach but I certainly don't get any readout saying Service Insp or any such so can't go to the next step of using the clock button to alter the code. Do I have to wait until the service is due before I can reset it? Any ideas gratefully recieved.
