  1. I went in there a few weeks ago as I was thinking about returning to Skoda ownership and wanted a good look at the Octy vRS. I rolled up in the S2000 but the staff couldn't have been more inept or dis-interested. They weren't interested in discussing a test drive as they didn't have a petrol one and had no idea when they'd get one in. Basically they couldn't be arsed even though I was a genuine buyer prepared to spend nigh on £20k. ******************** As for me I ended up buying a Ford!!!

  2. Unfortunately it happens to the best of us..... I got 'stung' the same recently on an Audi A4 TDi that had full Audi service history. The car had 55k miles and the service book stated that the cambelt was due at 80k miles. We purchased the car but then out of curiosity did some more digging and realised that the cambelt should be changed at 60k miles!!

It was only then that I called the dealer that had performed the last service and they actually told me that they had advised that the cambelt should be changed as part of the last service but the previous owner (knowing the car was going) declined to get the work done.

    Hey ho.... only

  3. I sympathise. I bought Octy #1 in black magic and vowed NEVER to get another black car due to the hassle keeping it clean. Then I spotted Octy #2 in black magic so bought that. When I came to sell that I vowed NEVER EVER to get another black car...... Now I've got the S2000 in..........erm........... BLACK!!!

If you're flying from East Midlands get in touch with the Hilton. They do deals on overnight accomodation (the night before you fly for example) and transport to / from the airport plus you can park your car in the hotel carpark for the duration. Ok so it's not as good as someones driveway for eaxmple but maybe worth a thought and we're planning on doing the same this year....

  5. Cheers guys although I'm sure it's now long gone the journey. Shame though as it was a nice car...... Police had said that older models are being targetted more now due to newer models being harder to nick (no consolation to Mr G though)

Anyway, it's only a car at the end of the day but it's still a right **** sorting it all out.

  6. My Dads retired but has been doing some part time work in the North West this week. He rang me earlier to tell me that his car has been nicked from the hotel carpark

Never mind the buggeration factor of sorting it all out but he's had the car from new (1994) and is absolutely gutted. I suppose it's long gone now and probably burnt out somewhere but the sad fact is the car was worth far more to him than it's actual monetary value. Unless it's found in one piece which is highly unlikely he's going to be well out of pocket :(

If anyone lives round the Ellesemere Port area keep an eye out for a metallic grey Volvo 850 T-5 saloon reg L368 JHN........What a bunch of bar stewards eh??

  7. Thanks for all the replies fellas..... I'll try and boot from the XP CD and do a repair as suggested and see what happens.

I think it might have something to do with the fact the kids have been using the PC recently and have a nasty habit of pressing the off button as opposed to shutting down properly. Will have to smack there hands - again.

  8. VTEC has two sets of cams IIRC and it basically switches from normal 2 litre mode to insane 2 litre mode when it comes "on cam" in the VTEC zone. :D

    Better described here

    Good link that

Basically the car will rev to a 9000 rpm red line. The power delivery is relatively linear up until the changeover point at c.6k rpm when the cam profile changes and your into full VTEC. The kick is very addictive and the noise is awesome especially with the airbox lid off ;)

  9. Q, I was in the same position a few months ago albeit with a budget slightly less than yours. Plumped for the S2000 in the end and haven't looked back. You can have some VTEC action when it suits but the car is really nice to drive even over long distances with the roof down so best of both worlds..... If you need some buying advice let me know :)
