  1. Hi , just thought id draw attention to this, i removed my front mudflap and wing liner to try and get access to the back of a dent i thought i might be able to push out from behind. Anyhow thats by the by, however i found a big pile of wet muddy crap which had built up against the bottom of the metal wing , which wont help with future rusting . If anyone keeps their cars a long time like me , you might want to check yours out. 5 mins . Easy just remove the 2 or 3 torx screws holding the mudflap and peel back the liner , you will be able to remove it all then.
  2. Sorry this is really embarrassing I feel bad now , it turned out that both dipped beam bulbs had blown at once, and somehow I was sold 2 new faulty bulbs. So, Having tried all your ideas to no avail , I booked it in. I’ve just paid £45 to an auto electrician to fit another 2 bulbs. but your responses won’t be wasted , and there is a lot of good debate and info stored here for someone else in future. thanks all
  3. Ok thanks all , I will update the post when I find out what it was.
  4. Hi sorry just to clarify , do you mean the small dial that raises/ lowers headlamp beam , or the main light switch on far right ? As we have another 5J Fabia I can swap switches over to test or eliminate . Thanks
  5. Hi thanks for your response. To date I have only tried spraying elec contact cleaner into the base of the stalk. unfortunately when it comes to electrics I have to restrict myself to my very basic skill level , I don’t feel confident in dismantling switches at steering column so I will have to let the experts do that !
  6. Ok , I suppose I had ruled this out because the main beam is working fine , so are the sidelights. Any how I’ll check it out next then. Thanks
  7. Hi can anyone say whether the Fabia Mk2 5J has a relay for the dipped headlamps? I have full beam but no dipped, checked/ renewed both bulbs , checked fuses nothing there. iI assume i will have to check the steering column stalk sooner or later but does anyone have any other simple likely causes / solutions please ?
  8. Hi on our 5J Fabia 1.4 mpi, when aircon is in use it makes a whirring sound which seems to increase in speed / loudness in sync with engine speed. the aircon itself works fine and gives good cold air. any clues on cause / solution welcome please Thanks
  9. Re, fabia 3 , 1.2tsi 110 petrol Hi, my dashboard emissions light stays on while driving, but the performance doesn’t seem to be affected apart from about a 5mpg drop in consumption I think . the car has been left standing quite a while during lockdown. Any help / diagnosis / or advice appreciated thanks
  10. Hi welcome to the forum. we have a 1.4mpi too , slightly newer but they are great runaround and also a tried and tested VW engine. They are dead easy to service , the oil filters are the metal canister type. I’ve posted a few easy tasks I’ve done before , such as a fuel filter change , and rattly exhaust heat shield fix.
  11. Thanks for your reply, wheelie1 I will have a look at that tomorrow. hopefully it’s just a bit of lubrication as you say!
  12. Hi, I would be interested. Does your fix cure ‘sloppiness’ or ‘ stiffness’ ? I have a problem on a fabia 1.9 where the front to back gear stick movement is ok , but the side to side movement is stiff. thanks
  13. Looks fine , I see that the fire can detect bad fumes and switch off automatic, however personally for the avoidance of doubt I would fit another carbon monoxide detector in the room.
