Hi , just thought id draw attention to this, i removed my front mudflap and wing liner to try and get access to the back of a dent i thought i might be able to push out from behind. Anyhow thats by the by, however i found a big pile of wet muddy crap which had built up against the bottom of the metal wing , which wont help with future rusting . If anyone keeps their cars a long time like me , you might want to check yours out. 5 mins . Easy just remove the 2 or 3 torx screws holding the mudflap and peel back the liner , you will be able to remove it all then.

Good description I’m going to do mine soon

Sorry this is really embarrassing I feel bad now , it turned out that both dipped beam bulbs had blown at once, and somehow I was sold 2 new faulty bulbs. So, Having tried all your ideas to no avail , I booked it in. I’ve just paid £45 to an auto electrician to fit another 2 bulbs. but your responses won’t be wasted , and there is a lot of good debate and info stored here for someone else in future. thanks all

Ok thanks all , I will update the post when I find out what it was.

Hi sorry just to clarify , do you mean the small dial that raises/ lowers headlamp beam , or the main light switch on far right ? As we have another 5J Fabia I can swap switches over to test or eliminate . Thanks
-
Hi thanks for your response. To date I have only tried spraying elec contact cleaner into the base of the stalk. unfortunately when it comes to electrics I have to restrict myself to my very basic skill level , I don’t feel confident in dismantling switches at steering column so I will have to let the experts do that !
-
Ok , I suppose I had ruled this out because the main beam is working fine , so are the sidelights. Any how I’ll check it out next then. Thanks

Hi can anyone say whether the Fabia Mk2 5J has a relay for the dipped headlamps? I have full beam but no dipped, checked/ renewed both bulbs , checked fuses nothing there. iI assume i will have to check the steering column stalk sooner or later but does anyone have any other simple likely causes / solutions please ?

Re, fabia 3 , 1.2tsi 110 petrol Hi, my dashboard emissions light stays on while driving, but the performance doesn’t seem to be affected apart from about a 5mpg drop in consumption I think . the car has been left standing quite a while during lockdown. Any help / diagnosis / or advice appreciated thanks

Hi welcome to the forum. we have a 1.4mpi too , slightly newer but they are great runaround and also a tried and tested VW engine. They are dead easy to service , the oil filters are the metal canister type. I’ve posted a few easy tasks I’ve done before , such as a fuel filter change , and rattly exhaust heat shield fix.

Looks fine , I see that the fire can detect bad fumes and switch off automatic, however personally for the avoidance of doubt I would fit another carbon monoxide detector in the room.

Noticed that the underside of the engine cover was rubbing against a rubber hose and it had made quite a flat spot on it, and could possibly wear a hole in it eventually ? Anyhow i just decided to wrap 2 cable ties around hose to keep it away from the rubber. May be a thing to check next time you look under the bonnet.

Removal of damaged locking wheel nut
digital-des replied to digital-des's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Just an update on solution . None of the special tools worked as it was as tight as hell , so as a last resort i had to get a nut welded on to the locking nut , cost £30 . From now on , to avoid this happening again, I will be removing the locking nuts before my car goes into the garage and putting a plain stud in temporarily. ( I must be one of those rare breed that expects to be able to change the wheel myself if i get a puncture, rather than callout the rescue vans ? ) -
Got out of car the other day and noticed petrol dripping from rear drivers side . It seemed the fuel filter had a leak so decided to attempt to renew. A quick on line search revealed a number of choices and prices , so decided to go for mid range Bosch type. Fairly easy to do- just one screw holds the plastic container/ strap but this had rusted away so badly I couldnt turn it, so i had to drill the head out. Once the filter released i took a photo to remind me which pipes went where. There are 2 pipes at one end , and one at the other. The pipes are held on to the filter by internal clips which release when pressed externally. So its a case of press & pull at the same time. Slide pipes on new filter until you hear the clip click, then plastic container secured back on with a new stainless steel screw. Theres also a helpful youtube video on line for a vw polo which is pretty much same. Shouldnt be more than half hours job.

Anyone tried to get a damaged locking nut off? Fabia mk2 the garage put my nuts on too tight and when I tried to remove wheel nut with standard VW spanned it slipped off and broke the teeth on both nut and removal key. ive seen various solutions including hammering a socket on , or welding nuts on. anyone tried these? Thanks.

Which exhaust part for 1.4 16V?
digital-des replied to Stratfordade's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Hi do you have an outcome for the exhaust problem please , there’s a hole in our front pipe , same car , same place, so I just wondered what you ended up doing? Thanks -
i was misleading , sorry i was referring to the engine types generally rather than the body . yes it is correct that the Roomster didnt offer the 6 speed version, you would need to have the fabia etc

I have a 1.2tsi 110bhp, think its great. Avoid the 90bhp it is only 5 speed, you need the 6 gears to give good economy on a motorway run. Av about 50mpg at 70mph. Personally i would avoid diesels now as all the signs are they likely to be taxed off the road in future? ( just an opinion.)
