  1. I've tried searching but couldn't find anything, I'm just about to replace the symphony stereo in my Octavia with my Alpine CDE-103BT headunit. I have the correct ISO adaptor and I just bought some Kenwood removal keys for 3 quid which seem to work. Do people buy aftermarket aerial adaptors? Because the Alpine headunit has one anyway. I've heard something about getting an adaptor which acts as a signal amplifier on the Octavia.

Also, my headunit is a handsfree car kit with a microphone. On my Focus I mounted the microphone on the drivers side A pillar. However the trim on the Octavia looks a bit trickier to remove. Anybody got advice or do I bite the bullet and start taking things apart?

    Cheers

  2. Cheers for the replies! That exhaust certainly sounds nice, I've heard people say the blueflames are too quiet a bit too near standard are they way off the mark?

I've just organised for the place I'm getting the car from (Rainworth Skoda) to do the cambelt and waterpump for 296 inc vat which isn't bad. I don't want to risk it because warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on.

Despite the same dealership salesman insisting that it didn't need doing until 60k miles despite being an 04 plate car!

  3. Hi there, I've browsed on here for a while but I've just bought a hatchback in black magic today, 04 plate from a Skoda dealer on 32k miles, 1 owner with full Skoda history. I'm part ex'ing my W reg Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec on 122k miles. I've had a Honda Civic 1.8 VTI (169bhp) before, that seemed about as quick as the Octavia in terms of on the speedo but far more urgent. The power delivery on the Octavia is very relaxed.

Anyway, the Octavia will have a full 12 month warranty on it but when I was haggling with the dealer I brought up the cambelt and waterpump. It hasn't been done, is this something I should consider shortly or should I take the view of leave it whilst it is in warranty?

Do people tend to run 99 ron or optimax on their VRS?

In terms of mods, short term I'm going to get braided brake lines and stick my Alpine bluetooth head unit in and run my ipod cable into the glove box. But eventually I want to go for at least an exhaust and a remap. Does anybody have any clips of the blueflame exhaust? The standard one seems a bit quiet. Anything else I should be thinking about? I'm just gutted I can't pick it up until 18th July because of work.

  4. Thanks for that.

I was thinking with the petrol one I will expect lower mpg if I am going for it a bit but otherwise if I can get around 30mpg I can live with (and afford) that for the benefit of having a quick ish car.

I'd best sort out a test drive eventually of a petrol VRS.

  5. Hi there, I'm new to this forum. I intend to sit using the search as well but here goes.

I currently drive a W reg Focus 1.8 Zetec, at best I get 37mpg but day to day I tend to get 32-34mpg. I do around 19k miles per year, my commute to work is 30 miles each way 20 of which are A road then dual carriageway. Sometimes I do the same commute by motorway which is 38 miles each way depending on the time of day.

Whatever car I get I intend to get something about two years old and run for a minimum of three years.

I've driven a mk2 VRS TDI which I liked a lot. It shifted.I realise that with my mileage it would be ideal however I'm worried about injector and turbo problems etc that are normally associated with diesel turbo engines. Also there was the ever present tractor like sound of a diesel engine which I don't like much.

I was thinking about going for a mk2 VRS petrol on the basis of I think unless I am wearing lead boots I doubt it will use much more petrol than my Focus. Its comfortable (cruise, climate control, well put together), like the TDI it looks good. For some reason the VRS' are reasonable to insure compared to say an ST220.

Am I mad considering a petrol mk2 VRS for the miles I do?

Also in terms of remap am I right in thinking on a standard car I should be able to get a few more bhp and torque without spending loads upgrading other components?

    Andy
