    Mine was the same, shaft chewed to ruins.
     
    The water ingress had in fact made the movement a little stiff and that was the only problem, dismantle, clean and it worked fine, but wouldn't have last long before same occurred again.
     
    Replacing the shaft alone isn't an option, of you look down into the plastic where it sits and the pipe attaches you will see that the chewed end has chewed up the plastic and the ridge running round the plastic that fits into the  groove on the shaft is knackered.

    OK, gave up and took it to the garage, they were able to unhook the plug from teh G65, I shoved a new fuse in, turned her on, turned her off and woo hoo the - the fuse wasn't blown.
     
    Left the car with them to replace the G65, they checked after, all fine.
     
    Just spent a torturous time refitting the glove box - everything is still working!
