  1. Just booked my March 14 Citigo in for its first free service next week - insp came up on the display this morning - and was told it will have the steering software update done at the same time. Not had any problems with the steering, or any other part of the car over the last year, other than very dirty back window!!!!

  2. The quickest way is to start the engine, turn heater on windscreen and pour WARM water on to the windscreen, it will not crack if warm (mine never has anyway). AC is an expensive way to heat a car, will use more energy and as such cost more to run.

I have been using this warm water method for years just make sure it is near cold otherwise you'll need to call Autoglass! , using de-icer reduces the temperature of the screen through its evaporation and only makes internal condensation worse. I only ever use air on in the winter if it's a particularly damp day with a full car causing the windows to mist up.

  3. The Superb fella

Might have a FL Yeti in a couple of years though

Not had a Superb, and fancy some comfort now Im going to be 40 in June :)

Good choice Damo, I thoroughly enjoyed both my Superbs, my last one was a Greenline with 'superb' economy, unfortunately it was not big enough! Sadly Skoda don't yet produce a 7 seater so i now drive an S-Max. However I am mightily impressed with my wives new Citigo SE

  4. When I picked up my wives new Citigo last week, which incidentally has the free 3 year servicing, I was surprised that you no longer get a service book. It is now held digitally by Skoda and you get a printout after each service to keep in a service folder.

  5. Finally after a 5 month wait I picked up my wifes Citigo SE this morning ...... WHAT A BRILLIANT CAR!!

After driving my Dads seven year old Mercedes C220 Cdi to the garage, I can't believe how much nicer the Citigo is to drive,  lighter steering, quieter engine and smoother ride! Took it my wives work for her to see before driving it home, she is very pleased and even more so after finally getting her hands on it this evening.

  6. I'll be joining you Sheppeygirl, my wife takes delivery of her Candy White 5 Dr SE on Monday - just ordered the mud flaps and rubber mats! However I've only known her wash her previous car (Blue Ka) once or twice in the last 10 years so I guess it'll be up to me with the sponge.  Mind you my previous car was a white Superb Greenline, now sadly replaced by a silver S-Max, so I'm used to washing white cars.  The S-max gets cleaned by some nice East Europeans (and other nationalities at times) once a month.

  7. Having left the Skoda family last year after swapping my Superb 2 Greenline for a Ford S - Max, a decision not taken lightly but driven by the need for more space as a result of more grandchildren arriving, I have now come back!

We have decided the change my wifes 10 year old Ka and after experiencing an UP! on holiday this year chose to do the sensible thing and order a 5 door Citigo SE in Candy White for her. The only option ordered is the £50 spare wheel as the SE has far more on it than the Ka had anyway and have taken advantage of the 0% offer with free servicing. Got a decent trade in for the Ka but may be selling it to family friend anyway.

    It's nice to be back!

  8. If you're using a reputable garage that services your car to VAG specifications, and uses VAG approved parts, and stamps your service book properly then you won't have any problems. I have always used a 'private' garage for cambelt changes as they are much cheaper, provided they use quality parts, and their work is warranted. Like me you have the good old 1.9 engine which is well known by most reputable garages.

Using a dealer to change your cambelt (and water pump) is money wasted in my opinion. I only use a dealer where there is a warranty issue, and the only time I have needed that in my ownership of the Greenline was a pressure sensor for the DPF which was hanged without quibble.

  9. or 4 years - I am told by my garage mine is due next year (1.9 Greenline- 52k)

Incidentally my service last month cost me half what the dealer charges - and my local garage uses genuine VAG parts and longlife oil. However I am considering going over to annual services rather than variable as my mileage is now only 12k a year and there will be a cost saving in the oil!

  10. My October 2009 Superb has had 10 headlight bulbs blow in the 2 and a half years I've owned it.

I have tried all sorts of bulbs - Bosch, Philips, Osram, Halfords, OE and they never seem to last more than a few months.

I do have the early DRL - I think the headlight bulbs run at something like 85% brightness when the car is running - is this likely to contribute to their short life? I can't seem to get more than 3 months out of a bulb - another one blew at 1am this morning, which given the darkness and the driving rain wasn't great!

    Justin

I had exactly the same problem with my 2009 Superb in its early days, the solution is to switch off the DRL's, I haven't needed to change a headlight bulb in 18 months and I am using ones from Carrefour (job lot bought on a day trip a couple of years ago when one went in France) - now I've said that one will go today!!!!!!!

  11. I use the ideal solution on my car, only costs £5 every couple of weeks - some nice East Europeans spend 30 mins cleaning the outside and door jambs/boot/tailgate, followed by hand drying and polishing paintwork, windows and wheels. an added bonus, every 5th wash is free, they even use Autoglym products (allegedly!).

Mine is Candy White and looks Superb :giggle: when finished

  12. hi,

have a 2010 superb elegance with the heated and dimming mirrors.

have had no trouble removing mirror, but once out i unscrewed the torx screws of the cracked lens i could not pop it out. didn't want to push it too hard.

do i also have to remove the black plastic bottom cover, or the colour coded top cover?

    thanks.

I have done this very job today on mine, yes you do have to prise off the black cover from the bottom of the wing mirror, this can only be done if all 4 torx screws are taken out, I had to use a wide flat bladed screwdriver to prise it off then the two clips inside on the indicator lens have to be released, again with the flat screwdriver. Its a bit nervewracking at first but it all goes back together quite easily.

  13. I echo your sentiments over the 1.9 Greenline. I love mine. I have only just changed my original tyres before christmas with about 30000 miles on. Like you one service. I don't do to many motorway journeys but always enjoy seeing 72-73mpg figures on the display. As mine already built and we got it in about 6 weeks as opposed to 6 months, the only things i miss are heated mirrors and a decent radio (with DAB but as there is no Skoda option i couldn't have one anyway)

Are you sure your 1.9 Greenline hasn't got heated door mirrors? I thought mine hadn't until I noticed the selector knob for the mirror controls was not turned to the heat position (2009 model) I also echo everyones sentiment, the MPG is astounding from this 'gruff' old 1.9

  14. Perhaps the problem can be identified by the fact that many love it while you do not.

You have bought a 1.9 PD base S model, presumably to be a big and cheap taxi. Therefore your objectives were different to many Superb owners, who go for a decent spec and power-plant as a way to exec quality on a budget.

The question I have, if size is presumably a priority, is what else you possibly think you could have got for the same money which would have been better??

Rather than ranting about your car (which would be in no way comparable to mine, so I really can't appreciate your point), why not stop and think about what you could have done to improve things - i.e. Test, or at least properly understand the differences between the car you drove and the one you ordered. That's what the brochure is for.

Either dig a bit deeper for a decent model or get a top end Octavia.

There's nothing wrong with the base models!!! I have a 1.9 Greenline which replaced a Mk1 PD130 Classic and its streets ahead of that car. OK it has less power, but the comfort, roadholding and overall driveability is excellent in comparison. My Greenline is basically S Spec with leather Wheel (that adds a touch of luxury) and gear lever gaiter and it also has factory fitted rear sensors that display in the 'basic' Swing radio - that's enough for me. Not everyone needs or can afford a fully specced Elegance on a retirement pension! Rant Over

  15. Hi,

I am in the process of ordering a new Greenline. I had a test drive on Friday and I thought that the performance of the car felt more than adequate on the single carriageway road that I drove it on. I was doing a bit more research on another forum today and found a thread where someone said that the 1.6 TD engine ran out of puff after 60 mph and made merging and overtaking on a motorway tricky. I didn't have the opportunity to try the car out on a motorway and now I'm starting to wonder if I should have gone for the 140 bhp 2 litre instead (it costs 1,600 euro extra and I'd prefer not to have to spend the extra unless its going to make the difference between loving and hating the car).

Does anyone regularly use their Greenline on motorways and are they happy with its performance when merging and overtaking?

Hi I can't comment on the 1.6TD but I have the 1.9TD Greenline, and it certainly doesn't run out of puff at 60mph! The gearing is longer than standard and you may need to drop into 4th occasionally to overtake if you need serious speed, but I have had no problems with mine on both UK and Continental motorways when overtaking, even fully laden. I wouldn't have thought the 1.6 is that much different with similar output figures to the 1.9.

  16. The Greenlines apparently are the normal height now. I find that they catch on speed ramps no matter how slow you go if you have anyone in the car. I changed the springs on my wifes Outlander to MAD springs and that raised the height and gave great stability especially while towing. - I wonder would that work for the Superb and if it would affect warranty.

    Any suggestions is appreciated.

My Greenline (2009 model) is now missing the rearmost parts of the undertray thanks to speed humps! I can honestly say that the loss of these parts has in no way affected the excellent fuel consumption! Now as to effect on the CO2 rating.............but then I am also carrying a full size spare wheel, babyseat, pushchair etc etc!

    C'est la vie!

  17. Hi guys,

I heard that DPF failure happened mainly to automatic transmision cars... and I'm trying an unorthodox method to find out if it's true. Please help me with this if you belive worth the effort.

    Regards,

    A

If by failure you mean the DPF light has come on, then it frequently comes on in my manual Greenline 1.9, usually when I've been driving around London Suburbs - nothing to worry about, a quick blast down the motorway clears it!
