  1. Ist Service on my Superb yesterday at 24000 miles, excellent service by Caffyns at Tonbridge, carried out speedily and efficiently, the car even came out of the workshop as if it had just come out the showroom, washed and valeted. Used their courtesy car (Fabia Scout 1.9TD) service. Darren on reception very helpful and polite.

    Will be using them again.

  2. My only comment on the paint problem would be to contact your dealer ASAP as already suggested.

Nice to know you're pleased with the Greenline, I've had mine since Jan this year - fantastic car, and often turns heads in the car parks. Some people just don't believe its a Skoda, one even thought it was a Merc! I find the fuel computer about 10% optimistic, but agree the fuel economy is stunning nontheless.

My only problem has been the lowered suspension and I have been caught out on some speedhumps near home, it bottoms out on occasion. I have also managed to gouge some plastic out of the undertray beneath the offside rear door on a gate runner (metal channel not quite buried in concrete!) again due to the long wheelbase, so I tend to take things like this a bit more careful nowadays!

Enjoy your car, it only gets better and better and better as the engine/gearbox runs in.

  3. Was your Greenline fitted with Michelin Energy tyres from new? My 'S' had these tyres and I got an almost identical mileage, however, when it cam the time to replace them the leasing company wouldn't authorise Energys, but strangely did authorise Michelin Primacys.

Have you stayed with the same make/model of tyre, or have you switched to a competitor?

I agree, the PD is great pootling through traffic, often on a trailing throttle, with occasional blips to maintain a specific speed.

No, my Greenline came with Conti EcoContact tyres, however these have just been replaced with Barum Bravaris 2's on the front so will be interested to see what effect (if any) they have on the economy. I had these on my old Superb PD130 and was very pleased with them. (they're owned by Continental anyway!)

  4. Hi Derv

I've been a Greenline owner since January, mine was an ex demo on an 09 plate and came with the umbrella as standard, it also came with factory fitted rear sensors which mute the radio (Swing) and puts a nice reversing display on the screen

You won't be disappointed when you get the car, mine has now done 24,000, is just coming up for its first service and has averaged 58 to the gallon since its purchase (brim to brim method of calculation). You will find the fuel computer is a tad optimistic, about 10% on average. It is an extremely economic vehicle, you may find the need to drop into 4th for speedy overtaking on the motorway, but overall 5th is fine for 70+ cruising.

My only problem? - found it a bit low on some of the speed humps in Maidstone! I have already scraped a part of the plastic undertray off on a gate entry that had a metal runner buried slightly proud of the driveway i was entering. I have just changed the front tyres at 24k.

Great car - you will love it - the PD engine may be a bit gruff, but its got loads of low down torque that lets you pootle along in traffic much like an auto without using the accelerator.

  5. As a Greenline owner of 7 months all I can say is it is Superb!!!

I had a Superb Mk1 PD130 before and whilst the Greenline is lower powered it is still a stunning car with exceptional fuel economy, (see my other posts) the road tax is cheap as well (£110 at current rates)

My only advice would be to get a spare wheel, mine was £110 which included tyre and plastic wheel well liner from my local dealer. (you can't order it as an option on the Greenline, so unless you have a friendly dealer that can order one at the cheaper 'option' price, you will need to order it as a spare part.

I promise, you won't be disapointed if you choose the Greenline - the boot spoiler is worth it alone!

  6. I actively tried to get the DPF light to come on a MKI Superb TDi but couldn't get it to come on no matter how I drove it.

I have heard of people having it come on, you did the correct thing and followed the handbook and cleared the DPF.

If you keep doing the same driving as you have been you will probably find it will happen every 20k or so.

Thanks James, one thing I'm not clear on, is the DPF on the Greenline one which periodically needs a fluid top up? I've read elswhere on this forum (Octavia) that some people have topped theirs up?

    Regards

  7. I used to have this problem with my old Cavalier CDX and later on my Escort Cosworth, especially original Pirelli P Zero's. The rubber seems a bit soft, so I changed to Eco Continentals for the Cavalier and they would last between 30 - 40K and the Escort Cosowrth was put on Michelin MX tyres and would get closer to 45K, even with a few trips round Donnington!

My Toyota has Michelins on and these have done over 50K!

Can I specify the tyres on my new Skoda?

I'm up to 20k on my Greenline which has the Conti Premium Contacts on - the fronts look as if they've got a few more thousand left on them yet - probably need changing by the time the first service arrives!

  8. I am looking to buy a superb and would like to get an idea of what mpg people are achieving on motorway runs?

My commute is 99% motorway and I travel at 75mph on cruise and wanted to get an idea of what greenline diesels would achieve and what the petrol engines would achieve.

    Thanks if you can help.

    L

I recently did a couple of long motorway cruises in my Greenline (260 miles each way) with the cruise control set to an indicated 80 most of the way (true 76 according to my sat nav), the fuel computer showed 69mpg on the outward journey (as its 10% optimistic that equates to 62 actual) and 58 on the homeward, but that included 2 hrs stop/start on the M25 (actual about 52). The DPF light showed after this slow period on the M25 (see my other post)

My son in law who was following me in his 59 plate 2 Ltr TDI Passat could not touch the Greenline in the economy stakes, but then I couldn't match his in gear acceleration times!

  9. My DPF light came on last week! I had spent a week pottering around Stoke on Trent whilst on holiday then travelled towards home at a respectable 80 ish until the M25, then got stuck on that for 2 hours stop start from the M11 to the Dartford Crossing. As I got to the Toll booths the DPF light came on!

So I did what the manual says, over 2500 revs for about 20 miles needing 4th gear rather than 5th and it cleared and has not reappeared since.

Car is 1 year old Greenline on 20k miles - still waiting for the first service, 4500 miles to go according to the computer.

    Anyone else experienced this yet?

  10. Mine did this for the 2nd time on Friday, the most horrendous loud screeching noise.

If it has stopped does it still need the stone removing or will it have dislodged itself? Local dealer is having a look tomorrow.

    Dan

This problem is not common to Skoda (VW) cars, it was also common on BL cars (Metro, Maestro etc) and I recently experienced it on my classic Triumph Spitfire. It could be more to do with the quality of road dressing these days!

  11. The warning triangle has never been standard on a UK car since its not a legal requirement to have one, but yes it is true. The current profit margin on Skoda models in the UK is very small, especially with offers such as the No VAT deal. Someone has to pay the VAT so its skoda taking the hit at the moment. Thing like the umbrella may seem trivial but multiplied by thousands the savings soon add up. I have never used the umbrella yet, for us in the uk its on the wrong side of the car.

That's odd, mine came with the warning triangle as standard (2009 model) - I use the umbrella quite regularly, but it is now kept in the front passenger door pocket!!

  12. For ease of cleaning silver based cars are the easiest (Aqua Blue and Steel Grey included) all darker colours are harder to keep clean and will show any imperfections (chips and scratches) up more, obviously avoid white as well!

Having had Silver, yes it is probably the easiest to keep clean, I now have White, thought it'd be hard to keep clean, but to be honest, add the mudflaps and it's not as bad as the dark colours.

  13. I recently had two Maxi Cosi rearward facing seats in the outer rears (one on an isofix base) with a generously sized adult comfortably strapped in the middle of my Mk2 - the legroom helps the adult get past the child seats. Then your 3rd child could go in the front (the airbag is easily isolated)

I havent tried a baby seat in the middle position, although the instructions do state that it is quite in order to do so.

More importantly, the boot swallowed all the paraphenalia and travel systems necessary for two 3 month old babies with ease

  14. With the bolero you get "car functions" displayed on the touch screen, if you have parking sensors you are shown the distance to object on the display, also climate control is displayed on the screen..

I have factory fitted rear sensors on my Greenline that give the distance display on my Swing radio - it also mutes the radio output at the same time - don't get the car functions though that may be because I don't have the full maxidot computer

  15. Is It worth the extra £300 yes I think so, 6cd changer and sd card card reader!

minus point is more easy to steal than a swing!

I've got the Swing (!) which doesn't need a CD changer if you're handy with a PC - I have a couple of CD's containing 24 complete albums on them in MP3 format - why spend an extra £300 for an SD card reader! - I am also told that you can connect an IPOD to it using the appropriate cable, though how I'm not sure, it also has an Aux input minijack in the centre console. Some people moan about the sound of the standard speakers, I have to say that once all your balances, faders, bass etc are set right it is fine as far as I'm concerned.

  16. I wouldn't rule out a standard 1.9Tdi, which when remapped is good for 700+ miles out of a tank when driven sensibly. The remapped car has just enough grunt to make overtaking more relaxed and most overtaking manoevres can be achieved in 4th or 5th gear.

You'll have no DPF concerns and benefit from a standard 16" spare wheel, unlike the Greenline's useless can of gunk!

The gangster (Sunset) glass on the Greenline is not to my taste and makes it harder to children to see what's going on outside.

I do like the lip spoiler, but wonder whether it makes any real difference to aerodynamics.

    Velo

The spare wheel' doesn't need to be a problem, my Greenline has a full size spare, admittedly bought as an extra (don't believe the brochure!) and the Sunset Glass is only a slightly darker tint than the front, nowhere near the dark tints you see on other cars (e.g. Vauxhall, Ford etc)

I have had no problems with the DPF, my driving is mainly country roads and the occasional dash up the M2 to Bluewater!

  17. HI

Try doing a search on the Skoda site for used Superbs - my Greenline was an ex demonstrator from TransCity in Walthamstow

I had a PD 130 Superb Mk1 beforehand and thought I may miss the performance by dropping to the PD105 engine in the Greenline, and to be honest I did for the first couple of days, then as I got used to the different way the Mk2 drives I found that it still got me from A to B in the same amount of time, and was far more enjoyable to drive, and the economy is STUNNING.

Some people consider the engine to be underpowered given the size of the car, I have not found this to be a problem, its fine for my purposes, I don't need the 140/170 versions and my road tax is only £110 - that's less than my wifes Ka!

The only slight problem I've encountered is the lowered suspension which at times has bottomed out on rough roads, speed humps, I think it's something to do with the length of the wheelbase.

    Hope this helps

    Steve

  18. Hi

I think you all need to go back to the good old PD 1.9 engine, my 1.9 Greenline has averaged 57mpg over the last 6000 miles according to my records of fuel consumed verified by Brim to brim top ups, across a variety of driving - motorway, Town and Country roads.

The MFD overreads by about 10% on the fuel computer, but it's geat when it shows 80mpg average on 25 mile trips home from work!

OK so it's slower than the aforementioned 140/170bhp versions, but it still gets me from A to B in a reasonable time.

  19. Only the columbus and bolero have the required software to support the mdi, and navigation is achieved using the touch screen in a windows explorer style interface. The MDI is far more than a simple ipod interface, you can connect usb hdd's, usb memory sticks and ipods of course. The swing does not have the required software to drive the mdi interface.

If that's the case, why does my Swing Radio instruction manual refer to the connection of devices through the MDI interface on pages 9 & 10?

  20. Hi all

There is one thing that is perplexing me and that is the two metal loops on either side of the the passenger seat cushion where it meets be seat back. I really didn't notice them when we bought the car and will ask the dealer at the service but perhaps someone can shed some light on it for me before then? I wonder they might be something to do with the ISOFIX seat fixing for kids seats. Seems odd that they are so visible though.

    Hi

They are indeed the ISOFIX fixings - I know this having recently bought a maxi cosi ISOFIX base to transport my 2 month old grandaughter - I had to 'squash' the seat base in the front to see them on my Greenline version

  21. The Thule roof bars I used on my old Mk1 Superb fits the new one fine, but that was because they are for a Rover 75 and that uses the same Foot Pack (754) as the new Superb, I just 'made' them fit the older car ! I only used them very occasionally, but now it's a bonus that they fit my new one perfectly. What's even better is that they were only £25 off ebay.

  22. See page 64 in the Manual:

Fog lights with the function “Corner”*

The fog lights with the function “Corner” improve the illumination of

areas close to the vehicle when turning, parking etc.

The fog lights with the function “Corner” are regulated according to the steering

angle or after switching on the turn signal light8) in the following circumstances

    • the vehicle is stationary and the engine is running or it moves with a speed of

    maximum 40 km/h,

    • the daylight driving lights are not switched on,

    • the low beam is switched on or the light switch is in the position  and the

intensity of the ambient light causes the low beam to be switched on,

    • the fog lights are not switched on,

    • no reverse gear is engaged.

  23. Hi

All I can say is that I drive over the same potholed roads here in Kent and have a very good ride. I've even remarked to my passengers on occasion how well the Superb rides over the potholes (and there are some very bad ones in my part of Kent). But then I have got standard 16" alloys on my Greenline with lots of rubber in the sidewalls, albeit with the lowered suspension on the Greenline.

It seems to me that the low profile 18" wheels are not the best wheel of choice on English roads unless you stick to the motorways!
