  1. Hi all I wanted to create a place for members to give positive recommendations for Independent Skoda/VAG in Ireland. Main dealers are easy to find but i think its good to have alternatives for those of us who arent multi millionaires. I'll start! MAD Motors in Santry ( close to Dublin Airport ) Excellent service.... v reasonable....ex SKODA mechanic with pretty complete range of services http://www.madmotors.ie/ You're welcome ! 😊
  2. I know there are many honest Skoda dealers out there so I don't want to tar them all with the same brush, but there is definitely some cowboy behaviour going on in terms of serious overcharging. Skoda would want to get their s*** together before it kills off all of the good will us loyal customers have.
  3. Thanks so much for the recommendations and apologies for the delay in acknowledging. I ended up trying MAD Motors in Santry and was really impressed. They were fantastic and i got the matrix, flush, timing belt and water pump done for just over 2/3 of what Skoda quoted me for just the matrix replacement. Am raging at that particular Skoda agent, that is an absolute disgrace. I am never going back to them. As for MAD Motors, I'm recommending them to everyone!
  4. Hi all I'm on my sixth Skoda, but this is my first time posting on the superb forum. I hope it’s okay to post this here, but I have a question on my car .. a superb 3 190 hp was in for a service and the dealer noticed that there was contamination to the coolant fluid and diagnosed a replacement heater matrix and all that goes along with that. When he told me the price, I was convinced that either he or I were having a stroke. I know it’s a labour intensive job, but all the same it sounded crazy.. can anyone recommend an independent Skoda/VAG specialist in North Dublin or surrounding areas please? Also a rough idea as to what it might cost either in Ireland, or the UK would be really appreciated Thanks all, and have a great Christmas
  5. No, we've electricity and running water these days, believe it or not!
  6. You should try driving around Ireland....you'd be surprised how far you can be from a 24/7 filling station
  7. Thanks All... lots of great advice. Unfortunately, I broke my leg playing football ( at my age FGS!! ) so haven't got to progress this. I did get to pop out a dent in the Wife's Octavia which was handily beside the blank for the exhaust. Just took off the blank, used boiling water and out it popped no problem with a bit of manual manipulation... The dent will be with me for a bit longer! Thanks again
  8. Yes, i think its a common fault...replaced this on herself's Octavia some years ago....
  9. Really appreciate all of the replies.... great community
  10. Yes, definite tear but i'll have to live with that for the moment. Hoping it comes back together a bit when the dent pops out Heres hoping.... Thanks...Will sure give it a go. And I do really need to wash the car
  11. Thanks for the quick reply.... French parked... ha...nicely put. Maddening My experience with Skoda clips is not marvellous, having had cause to remove the boot trim a couple of times in the the wife's Octavia. They seem to be designed to be used and not reused, frustratingly. This is why I was thinking of going in through the wheel arch. But hopefully, the clips you mention are a bit more robust...
  12. Evening all! A lovely considerate person reversed ( presumably ) into my Yeti leaving a dent in the rear bumper. They didn't fancy having to explain it so buggered off without a word, bless 'em! Skoda wanted € 600 + to replace and fit a new one. Unfortunately, we're in the middle of moving house and fixing it just isn't in the budget right now. Having seen all of these wondrous clips off of glowing white teethed people with buckets of hot water / heat guns and poking devices knocking dents out of bumpers, i think I might give it a go! I really don't fancy taking off the bumper entirely so am wondering can I access the dent in the pic below through the wheel arch or from underneath. I'll have to live with the tear in the bumper but the dent is driving me mad. At least if I could get rid of that, my tenuous grip on reality may be maintained for a little longer. Who knows, i may even get my teeth whitened and make a youtube vid! Thanks for any advice/guidance...
  13. No such luck.... I'm blaming generic beer and too much time on my hands.
  14. Thanks all for the replies.....I must have enjoyed the holiday season too much and be mistaken!
