  1. Hi all I wanted to create a place for members to give positive recommendations for Independent Skoda/VAG in Ireland. Main dealers are easy to find but i think its good to have alternatives for those of us who arent multi millionaires. I'll start! MAD Motors in Santry ( close to Dublin Airport ) Excellent service.... v reasonable....ex SKODA mechanic with pretty complete range of services http://www.madmotors.ie/ You're welcome ! 😊
  2. I know there are many honest Skoda dealers out there so I don't want to tar them all with the same brush, but there is definitely some cowboy behaviour going on in terms of serious overcharging. Skoda would want to get their s*** together before it kills off all of the good will us loyal customers have.
  3. Thanks so much for the recommendations and apologies for the delay in acknowledging. I ended up trying MAD Motors in Santry and was really impressed. They were fantastic and i got the matrix, flush, timing belt and water pump done for just over 2/3 of what Skoda quoted me for just the matrix replacement. Am raging at that particular Skoda agent, that is an absolute disgrace. I am never going back to them. As for MAD Motors, I'm recommending them to everyone!
  4. Hi all I'm on my sixth Skoda, but this is my first time posting on the superb forum. I hope it’s okay to post this here, but I have a question on my car .. a superb 3 190 hp was in for a service and the dealer noticed that there was contamination to the coolant fluid and diagnosed a replacement heater matrix and all that goes along with that. When he told me the price, I was convinced that either he or I were having a stroke. I know it’s a labour intensive job, but all the same it sounded crazy.. can anyone recommend an independent Skoda/VAG specialist in North Dublin or surrounding areas please? Also a rough idea as to what it might cost either in Ireland, or the UK would be really appreciated Thanks all, and have a great Christmas
  5. No, we've electricity and running water these days, believe it or not!
  6. You should try driving around Ireland....you'd be surprised how far you can be from a 24/7 filling station
  7. Thanks All... lots of great advice. Unfortunately, I broke my leg playing football ( at my age FGS!! ) so haven't got to progress this. I did get to pop out a dent in the Wife's Octavia which was handily beside the blank for the exhaust. Just took off the blank, used boiling water and out it popped no problem with a bit of manual manipulation... The dent will be with me for a bit longer! Thanks again
  8. Yes, i think its a common fault...replaced this on herself's Octavia some years ago....
  9. Really appreciate all of the replies.... great community
  10. Yes, definite tear but i'll have to live with that for the moment. Hoping it comes back together a bit when the dent pops out Heres hoping.... Thanks...Will sure give it a go. And I do really need to wash the car
  11. Thanks for the quick reply.... French parked... ha...nicely put. Maddening My experience with Skoda clips is not marvellous, having had cause to remove the boot trim a couple of times in the the wife's Octavia. They seem to be designed to be used and not reused, frustratingly. This is why I was thinking of going in through the wheel arch. But hopefully, the clips you mention are a bit more robust...
  12. Evening all! A lovely considerate person reversed ( presumably ) into my Yeti leaving a dent in the rear bumper. They didn't fancy having to explain it so buggered off without a word, bless 'em! Skoda wanted € 600 + to replace and fit a new one. Unfortunately, we're in the middle of moving house and fixing it just isn't in the budget right now. Having seen all of these wondrous clips off of glowing white teethed people with buckets of hot water / heat guns and poking devices knocking dents out of bumpers, i think I might give it a go! I really don't fancy taking off the bumper entirely so am wondering can I access the dent in the pic below through the wheel arch or from underneath. I'll have to live with the tear in the bumper but the dent is driving me mad. At least if I could get rid of that, my tenuous grip on reality may be maintained for a little longer. Who knows, i may even get my teeth whitened and make a youtube vid! Thanks for any advice/guidance...
  13. No such luck.... I'm blaming generic beer and too much time on my hands.
  14. Thanks all for the replies.....I must have enjoyed the holiday season too much and be mistaken!
  15. Hi All Apologies, this may be a stupid question! I have a 2012 Yeti 2.0 Diesel on which the backlighting behind the air vents on the dash has stopped working over the last few days. I have not noticed anything else broken. Is this likely to be a fuse issue or a broken bulb in the dash please. A quick reply would be much appreciated ask my warranty is to run out within the next week and a half Much obliged for any help Thanks
  16. Hi All Having previously had 2 Octavias ( 2000 1.9 TDi and a 2004 1.6i ), a Fabia ( 3 pot 1.2 ) and currently a 2012 Yeti 2.0 110 and a 2009 Mk2 Facelifted 1.9 TDi PD Octy, I think i can consider myself a Skoda Fan if not an expert. In fact all of the cars bar the 00 are still in the family Being absolutely honest, I feel that there has been a drop in quality in the cars since the first Octy. On a very positive note, engines seem pretty much bullet proof ( touch wood! ) and problems have been more on the ancillary side. Recurring problems with Central looking, Electric windows and wiper motors on all cars and overheating issues as well. Now, obviously no car is maintenance free but the fact that the same issues recur in different cars is a bit irritating. Anyone else have the same problems/thoughts? Incidentally, love the new Kodiaq and have fancied a Superb for ages
  17. Hi All, I'm sorry if this is a silly question but I'm having an issue with the rear light cluster on my '09 Octavia ( facelifted model ). I have put it through the NCT ( Irish MOT ) twice now and am having an issue with the offside rear driving light ( excuse my non tech language - the rear light that lights when the headlights are on ) lighting dimly when the brakes are applied. The brake light itself comes on and goes off fine. I guess its some sort of a short or frayed wire. Has anyone come across this before? I have to get the car retested before Friday! Any help/advice welcome....
  18. That's good news....my wife's Octy is going for NCT next week and the central locking seems to believe its on work to rule, so randomly do the doors open. It used to be fun when the kids couldn't get out of the car but I guess its probably a bit dangerous as one of the rear windows has packed up too!
  19. Thanks for replying, Ken. No, Cranking speed is not noticeably different. I'm wondering if it could be dirty fuel or something like that? I really have no idea and the fact that the Skoda dealers can't find it is a bit worrying. I'm also concerned that this fault may lead to bigger things down the road!
  20. Some impressive lists here ( not mine though ) Mazda 323 3 dr Hatch Mitsubishi Colt Skoda Octavia Mk 1 1.9 TDi Skoda Octavia Mk 1 1.6 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi ( not only the worst car I ever owned, but I'd guess it may be the worst car anyone ever owned. ) Skoda Octavia Mk 2 TDI
  21. Hi All, Would love to get some input on this please. My beloved 2 year old Octavia TDi ( Mk 2 facelift 1.9 PD )....the third of three Octavias, is starting to wind me up a bit. On certain mornings, it simply won't start without cranking the ignition and pumpimg the accelerator pedal repeatedly for about 2 mins. It's an intermittent fault and it's not dependent on the outside temperature. However, it does seem to be worse the longer it is left without starting. I've had it in to the dealer a number of times but needless to say, they are not able to replicate the fault. I am concerned about knackering the catalytic converter from using the accelerator to start, but it's the only way to get it going..... Any suggestions/advice welcome, Thanks, Hugh
  22. Hey Rory Can you pm with where the breakers yard is please? I need to replace the Driver's door window regulator on my Oct I Thanks
  23. I do love my Octavias but someone lift ain't going to the top floor any more
