  1. First post updated, with latest service and MOT expiry dates, tyre tread depths, photos of interior and alloys added

We do a have a vRS to compare with & I mostly prefer driving the SuperB, it's just a bit more relaxed, especially on a long trip.

As a former vRS owner, I agree with old newbie2. If you have an Octavia vRS TSI this would be a great upgrade.

  2. Have spotted a 2011 elegance estate (they want auto petrol) which they are keen on but wondering what the common pitfalls are? Also does mid 10k pricing sound right for around 40k mileage?

I've been checking out pricing of used Superbs and that price looks to be in the right ballpark for an estate. There's a 2012 2.0TSI estate with lower mileage on the Skoda Approved Used website at just under £12k. The 1.8 should be cheaper and the one you have seen is a year older.

If it doesn't have to be an estate, you might be interested in my 2012 Elegance 2.0TSI DSG twindoor in the For Sale section.

The only issue with my Superb over four years and 46,000 miles was the fuel filler cap door sticking shut - fixed under warranty.

  3. I thought long and hard before deciding to move on from the Superb. Its very well equipped, a great combination of performance and refinement and with the 0% VAT offer on in 2012 I couldn't see anything else like it for the price. You can't quite say the same about the Superb III, although the SE L 220 TSI is still a lot of car for £27k.

I first saw the XF advertised at the end of last year. A price cut at the end of January plus a deposit contribution offer brought it within budget. There are very few V6 petrol XFs around. I've only seen three others for sale - all with higher mileage or at higher prices and two in colours that weren't for me. So once I'd seen the condition of the car and driven it I thought this was an opportunity that might not come along again any time soon. We don't have kids so losing a bit of space in the back wasn't an issue for us. I'm braced for higher running costs, but reassured by having a two year Jaguar warranty.

  4. I agree that the size of the boot opening isn't great

Mine also has the ivory interior and alcantara headlining - makes a nice contrast with the British Racing Green paint

Interested in your comment about the doors, but the doors on mine felt really solid when I drove it yesterday. There was a facelift model introduced in 2012 and maybe the facelift included some interior quality improvements?

  5. Overall average over last 2,000 miles or so has been 30 mpg, including a fair proportion of short trips at this time of year. I'd expect 1-2 mpg better when the weather is warmer.

35 mpg is achievable on longer runs and once, when I had time to spare to get from Manchester to Coventry and tried an economy run on the M6, cruising at 55-60mph, I managed a journey average of over 40 mpg on the maxidot display

  6. After eight trouble-free years of Skoda ownership, four years with my Superb, three European road trips and a lot of thought I've made a big decision today and put a deposit down on this...

When the Superb III came out I thought that would be my next car, but I've always liked the look of the XF and having previously been tempted by a Superb V6, when I saw this car on offer at a similar price to a new Superb L&K my head was turned. Its a 2013 car, with the 3.0 V6 supercharged petrol engine, originally a demonstrator and then with one private owner, only 28,000 miles and comes with a two year Jaguar approved used warranty. The previous owner has paid a huge chunk of the depreciation and I can see myself keeping this car for a long time.

So if anyone on here is looking for that rare animal, a Superb II 2.0TSI twindoor, check out the For Sale forum...

  7. I'm off to look at a replacement vehicle for my Superb tomorrow morning, but have been offered a derisory price for the Superb as a part-exchange, so looking to sell privately.

The Superb 2.0TSI DSG is a rare beast, with less than 200 sold new in the UK. This engine was only available in the UK from February 2011 and only in Elegance or L&K trim and with DSG. It was dropped when the facelift was introduced in 2013.

  8. BBC Look East tonight reported record crowds at Clacton Airshow over last two days and all passed off safely. So plenty of public appetite for air displays despite last weekend's tragic accident.

Apparently a relative of one of the people killed at Shoreham had called the Clacton organisers and asked them to cancel the event.

Well done to those who made the decision to go ahead I say.

  9. I got to drive a couple of XEs (180 diesel R-sport and Portfolio) at a Jaguar event last weekend and was quite impressed.

It is a while since I've driven a diesel car and I thought it was pretty refined for a diesel engine. Most of the driving route was on roads with a 50mph limit, so not much chance to explore the performance but it was quick enough from 30-50.

I also had a chance to do some off road slalom runs through some cones and the handling gave me plenty of confidence to press on.

The black interior of the R-sport felt very claustrophobic at first and there wasn't much spare headroom considering I'm only just 6ft tall, but it was easy to find a good driving position. I preferred the lighter interior and very nice perforated leather in the Portfolio.

But best part of the day was two hot laps as a passenger in a very briskly driven F-type V6S :)

  10. Definitely interested in this. I have some work colleagues based in Prague who may be able to help with some local knowledge. When I was over there recently I was told that there were some special public events at the factory in May this year. Not sure if this is an annual event but can ask my contact about this.
