  1. cheers for the feedback so far guys. This is my first Diesel car, so I'm keen to learn how to get the best out of it. I thought I'd run Vpower + Millers to get the engine nice and clean and hopefully running to optimal performance. But if you guys are saying it's bit pointless to run both, then I'll just run one and see what happens. I thought it best ask what you guys prefer using - cause with a range of 500miles per tank, it would take me quite some time to work out what works best from trial and error!
  2. I've had my car (bought 2nd hand with 72,000miles) now for about a month/1200 miles. In that time I've only filled up with Shell Vpower and also using Millers Sport Diesel (stuff, cetene booster from Halfords). Is it worth bothering with the above - my car is a Fabia 1.9 TDI 100bhp I want it to run and powerfully and efficiently as possible. What are your thoughts guys?
  3. My recirculation also playing up... When you press it on, it will light up orange (and you can hear the air noise deepen in the passenger footwell - so all is good), and then moments later, the RC button flashes, and then goes off. Pressing it again mostly doesn't bring it back on. It will refuse to light up again after this. I've booked it into the dealers for warrenty, Will it be a case of a faulty motor/flap? I don't have access to VagCom, so can it be reset by disconnecting the car battery for an hour?
  4. As above, Can the washer jet angle be adjusted? Doesn't look like the jets have any way of adjustment. On my mk4 Golf u could adjust the fan up or down. On the fabia it looks like they can't be moved?
  5. Well it's definatly broken. yesterday it didn't work, this morning it worked perfectly fine on the way to work. I tried all sorts of combos (temp/fanspeed/airflow direction). Then on the way home from work just now, it again didn't work. The light flickered on yellow, and then it went back off again. Tried turning off the fan, and back on, but prodding the r/c button didn't do anything. I did notice (hear it) working when I first reversed the car out of the work parking space, so it's intermittant. Looks like a trip back to the Dealer
  6. To clear up any confusion you may have over my suggestion, let me try and clarify a bit better. This is the part that's supposed to be from a Seat, and costs around £40. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/waveydavey13/31012007008.jpg and this is it fitted to the engine http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/waveydavey13/31012007010.jpg And this is My suggestion: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/iipcache/121281.jpg I'd add dynamat sound proofing to the underside of the bonnet (but not to the same extreme in that picture) and have that hidden by the existing underbonnet carpet. this in effect would produce a double layer of sound deadening, which should cut out lots of noise coming from the bonnet lid. The fabia is great in that the bonnet lid had a rubber seal going all the way around which effectively seals the sounds in.
  7. I will give it a go when I get back from Holiday. I sound deadened my R32's front two doors with Dynamat, and also the Spare wheel well. The difference to road noise was immense. So I'll def do the same to the Fabia soon
  8. HIya, I'm intrested in making the cabin a bit quieter too. I've noticed my Fabia already has a foam cover around the back of the cam cover anyway. that Seat part is basically twice as much material, making a box shape around the Cam cover. Would it really be worth spending £40 on this? Maybe it's a better idea to put some (high temperature resistant) sound deadening to the underside of the bonnet skin (Dynamat make a specific underbonnet sticky stuff) and then put the bonnet carpet back ontop of that. Surely that would make more of an impact for similar outlay? Anyone got any thoughts on that?
  9. Hi Guys, Only had the car a week, still finding out about bits and bobs on it. I've noticed the Reciculation button (next to the Aircon) doesn't work. Put the fan onto any speed (1-4) and press the Recirculation button and it doesn't light up. It will sometimes briefly light up and then flicker and turn back off. It certainly won't stay on. I'm thinking it's broken... Makes no difference if the Aircon is on or off, and it makes no difference which way the air is aimed (screen/feet/face etc). Also I changed the pollen filter the other day (it was full of leaves) and refitted a new one (correctly I believe). ever since then I can hear the airflow in the passenger footwell. Is this because the Pollen filter is clean, or have I possibly fitted it back incorrectly? I made sure the cartridge was pushed in the correct way, and I've also connected back the cover and done both clips up fully.. Maybe it's just the airflowing faster now?! Finally i've noticed that the temperature is very very slow to change from cold to hot. It's as if there is a very lazy motor which changes the temperature flow. Is this another fault somewhere? Everything seems so wrong with the ventilation system to me!
  10. I had a brake light switch go slightyly dodgy on my Golf R32. I bought a new one from VW, and it was a purple and black one. There is a way of adjusting it so that it activates with a certain level of pedal travel. there are handy guides on VWvortex.com. Most likely you'll find them under the Golf mk4 or Golf R32 forums. All I did to mine was twist out the old one, and twist in the new one. Fortunatly the switch activates with the correct level of pedal travel, i didn't need to adjust it when I fitted it
  11. Mate, I bought the oil from Gti International show in Bruntingthorpe. Loads of traders selling 5litre cans for £30, so I bought 15litres worth (Quantum Longlife VW 504/507)
  12. 48mpg is what the long term trip computer has said over the last 300miles. The car is running regular steel wheels (14inch). I've changed the oil (VW 507) and airfilter this week too. Yesterday I saw 50mpg on a fast motorway dash, so overall I am very impressed. so it sounds like my car is doing what it should, so thanks for the feedback guys
  13. I've driven my Golf R32 on a stupidly skinny space saver tyre without problems. So I wouldn't worry too much. The car won't suddenly blow up because you're using a different sized spare tyre
  14. Wow I had no idea that this engine can be mapped to produce 140bhp! I was thinking more along the lines of an extra 20bhp.
  15. I'm well impressed with the MPG of my (new to me) fabia. In the first 4days of owning her, she's done 48mpg over 300miles (half a tank showing on the dial now). Is this MPG figure typical of this car? I took off the intercooler hose yesterday and had a look inside the (throttle valve??) (the thing that the EGR sits under), and it was quite dirty inside. Not majorly dirty like some pictures I've seen, but still quite oily and mucky. I sprayed loadsa carb cleaner in there, but I do think it's gonna have to be a dismantle it sort of job. Will cleaning this yeild any extra benefits? Or is the MPG 48mpg fairly typical of this car?
  16. thanks for the replies guys. Sarah, did the 160 intake make any difference to the car?
  17. On the Golf R32's (mk4 and mk5) the haldex oil needs changing every 20,000 miles, and the filter needs changing at 40,000 miles. It is diy'able, but you need a specific Haldex filter wrench which is about £15 from various places. If you have a look on VWvortex (r32 forums) there are plenty of detailed write ups on how it's done mate.
  18. Guys, I'm keen on fitting a bigger Intake pipe on my 2002 Fabia (1.9 TDi 100bhp). I've read about the PD160 intake pipes, but I'm not inclined to spend £80 on two bits of plastic. Does anyone know if the regular VRS fabia intake pipe will fit mine, and if so, is it any bigger than the one on my car now?
  19. Many thanks, I got the filter from my Local VW. Funnily enough they had two different types of filter (both the same size). One had straight lines, the other had wiggly lines. I opted to take the one with the wiggly lines - not sure if there's any difference. The one that was in the car had straight lines. God damn *** ache, the oil filter cap tool cost £10 from Halfords, but hey ho I had no choice as I'd already drained the oil from the engine!
  20. I'm about to do an Oil Change for my 2002 Fabia 1.9 TDI (ATD engine code, I think this is a PD engine) Firstly am I right in saying that I can use VW504/507 approved Oils in this engine? And secondly, I've got 2 litres of Mobil 1 VW504/507 And bucket loads of Quantum VW 504/507 I want to use up the mobil one, So can this be mixed 50/50 with the Quantum stuff? both oils are 5w/30, and VW504/507 approved I thought I'd ask before mixing them
  21. Hi guys, Do you have the Skoda/VW part number for the OEM oil filter for a 2002 Fabia 1.9 TDI 100bhp (ATD engine code)
  22. thanks, I've just searched and yes you're right, it's got two locating holes behind the badge.
  23. hiya, i'm wondering if i remove the rear skoda round badge, will this leave a smooth panel, or are there badge locating holes? fabia 2002 hatcback
  24. I've used Diamond Brite in the past on my R32, it's a good wax sealant to be honest. Each coating will easily last 6-12months (don't listen to the dealers when they say it lasts 6years). I'd happily recommend it. It does no harm, and is easy enough to apply. Just don't buy it from the dealer, do it yourself. The two stage kits are available for £15 or so.
