  1. If you stick the original grill on eBay you'll get a good chunk of that £117 back. Even less hassle if you kept the box the new one came in People are always hitting kamikaze pigeons and pheasants!
  2. I've been told that if I'm there for 08:30 I should be away by 10:30, fingers crossed!
  3. Mine is the 1.4 TSI with a factory fitted tow bar so the modified grill was fitted at the factory. There has been lots of discussion on what is actually part of the factory upgrade that is associated with the tow bar which covers the grill, radiator fans, battery and alternator, but looking at my car the only obvious change is the grill which essentially has a few more of the slots in between the vertical slats opened up to improve air flow. In the UK it is rare for us to experience the extreme summer temperatures experienced in other countries so unless you're towing up a steep incline for mile after mile at maximum towing capacity and therefore high engine loads then I very much doubt you'll ever see an issue.
  4. But not the SportLine?
  5. The 1.5 TSI will tow your van just fine. I have the 1.4 TSI 150PS manual 4x4 Scout and it tows our 1,374kg (MTPLM) Bailey really well... I've found the odd down change is required to maintain 60mph on the motorway on very steep inclines but with your DSG gearbox you'll barely notice. One piece of advice I can give you, go for the genuine Skoda tow bar. It integrates into the cars electrical systems better than any aftermarket option. I see you're in Cumbria? Have a drive over to Leeds and get Chris Farthing to fit the factory fitted electrically retractable Skoda tow bar for approx. £800. A few hundred pounds more than a good quality aftermarket tow bar but well worth it.... If you get Chris to fit the reverse camera at the same time (I'm booked in on Saturday) then you get this view on the infotainment screen when hitching up, an absolute must if you don't have someone to guide you back onto the hitch... I would imagine if you had both done at the same time you'd be looking less than £1,000 due the potential time savings?
  6. Too old for a possible warranty claim?
  7. Are they? I don't think the SportLine is any wider than the other non-vRS versions of the Kodiaq.
  8. Mine is also booked in with Chris Farthing on Saturday morning, £280 inc. VAT for the genuine Skoda highline version fitted in a Skoda workshop. Do you know how much of the interior trim is removed? He told me it'll take approx. two hours to complete. This was from one of his Facebook posts, it looks like quite a significant strip down I'm hoping I'll still be rattle free afterwards...
  9. It's a warranty claim. Skoda are aware of this fault, as mentioned it is due to the design of the front mudflap. They revised the design of the mudflap to stop it happening. Unless you replace the mudflaps the other side will do the same and eventually your repair will need doing again. You aren't the first and won't be the last...
  10. Sounds strange to me, why would a MY20 ECU be any different to that of a MY19 ECU in terms of access? Have you spoken to a different company?
  11. What this thread seems to suggest is the Kodiaq vRS hits the sweet spot for day-to-day driving. It does make me question the obsession on sports orientated non-SUV cars to have harder and lower suspension, large wheels and low profile tyres, arguably largely wasted for highway use. Price aside the Kodiaq vRS is equally likely to satisfy the OP coming out of an Octavia vRS given handling and power are high up his list?
  12. There are a lot of different beeps that the car can make, are you able to tell us what the beep is similar to, for example the parking sensors, handbrake-on warning, low temperature warning, engine fault, low fuel warning, fasten seat belt warning, blind spot assist telling you your about to pull into an occupied space etc. These are all mostly different tones or the same tones at different intervals and volumes and so can often be easily recognisable / distinguishable from one other. With the caravan hitched-up when is the car beeping? All the time, randomly, when indicating, braking, accelerating, cornering etc? Is the beep a continuous tone, short beeps, long beeps, how long in between each beep? What brand of aftermarket tow bar have you had fitted? How was was the wiring integrated. Did they use a proper CANBUS control box or did they simply splice into the wiring loom for the rear lights? How much did it cost, this is usually a good guide for if it was fitted, and importantly coded correctly. When you indicate do you get the secondary green arrow on the dashboard to confirm that the trailer indicators are working? Do the rear parking sensors and rear fog light automatically disable when the electrical plug is connected as well as you seeing a picture of a caravan on the central infotainment screen? Does the alarm activate if you unplug the electrical socket when the car is locked? Do you get an additional option in the sat nav settings to avoid narrow roads and low bridges? An idea might be to get a passenger to film the fault, this will make it easier to show the dealer the fault and prevent them from reporting 'no fault found' and sending you on your way.
  13. Indeed, Skoda like to make life complicated, completely unnecessarily, but it's a skill they've successfully mastered over the years. Cutting through their terminology there are essentially two types of service... 1) Oil and oil filter and a pollen filter if you're lucky. 2) Oil and oil filter, a pollen filter, air filter, fuel filter (diesel) and spark plugs (petrol). There is no difference in the grade of oil used between the two. Both service get the same visual inspections. Sometimes no.1 is called a 'minor' or 'fixed' service whilst no.2 is sometimes called a 'major' or 'variable'. However, as we've seen here a variable service consisted of no.1. My Kodiaq was in for service last week and the guy on reception was (quite unusually) quite clued up. Set to fixed service my intervals go: Year 1 - No.1 Year 2 - No.1 Year 3 - No.1 plus brake fluid Year 4 - No.2 Year 5 - No.1 plus brake fluid and cambelt Year 6 - back to the beginning So my comment about there being nothing more than oil, oil filter and pollen filter changes prior to 3 years or 60,000 miles has been mostly applicable across all Skoda models for as long as I've known. No doubt there will be some exceptions. When being quoted the higher price for a major service on a Skoda 3 years old or older it is always worthwhile asking to ensure you're actually getting the air filter and/or fuel filter and spark plugs. This is why Skoda's service plan letters that boast both a minor and major service are misleading, you're only ever going to get two oil and oil filter changes.
  14. So, in that case the car was indeed set to variable from new. First registered in January 2018, 6,5000 miles covered by the original owner plus 3,000 miles by you. First serviced in June 2019, so the service was flagged due to time (18 months) not mileage (9,500 miles). The first service whether variable or fixed is a basic oil and oil filter change, the pollen filter being the only extra from the extended variable interval. The next (and therefore second) service was carried out 12 months later (so yes the service computer was changed from variable to fixed during the first service) in June 2020 at 13,000 miles, so again it was time not distance that prompted the service. As expected another basic oil and oil filter change. All good so far, apart from your suggestion that the second service was somehow the third service, not sure if I'm still misreading you here. Either way, even if the dealer has mistakenly performed a third service then it is unlikely it'd have had anything more than an oil and oil filter, perhaps another pollen filter, so it's unlikely you've missed out or the car under-serviced. The fourth service is the biggie, so you've another minor fixed service to go (third service) before the air and fuel filter are required. As mentioned the letter Skoda send out detailing the two services is poor, all their referencing to minor and major does is confuse.
  15. Active steering and DCC are available on non-vRS models.
  16. Coming from an Octavia vRS you're likely to be disappointed if being sporty is a high priority. An extra 40bhp over a regular Kodiaq and being almost identical in all other aspects aside from bigger wheels and some nice visual modifications means it's still a heavy bluff fronted 7-seater SUV. Unfortunate but mostly unavoidable trade-offs needed to be able to seat 7 and the tick the latest 'must have' ride height box. On the bright side you can get it in Race Blue, on the down side Skoda no longer reserve this colour for their vRS models.
  17. I'm not sure I said that you did?
  18. Blimey, your writing style is difficult to read, my eyes are stinging So, your Kodiaq has the tow bar preparation factory option fitted i.e. the wiring from the battery under the bonnet to the boot area? You've bought a brand new genuine factory equivalent tow bar and fitted it yourself? Since fitting the towbar it isn't working (by which I presume when you pull the switch in the boot the swing-down tow ball isn't releasing) and it has also disabled the Front Assist? The dealer claims it isn't simply a case of coding it, there is a fault somewhere? Dealers don't like a lack of fault codes, it means they have to try and work stuff out themselves which some of them find difficult, this has probably resulted in your wallet feeling lighter and the dealer keen to see the back of you. Find a proper auto-electrician would be my advice, preferably one with VAG experience and the proper coding software, or employ a trusted tow bar fitter to retrace your installation. Your money would be better spent with these guys rather than your local Skoda dealer. On the bright side you won't have to rip out the cars interior, the factory installed pre-prep should be sound, the fault (if there is one) is likely to be between the pre-prep and your work in the boot / bumper area.
  19. Something isn't quite right. The car was new in October 2018? They leave the factory set to variable service intervals. Customers who are eligible for a service plan, whether FOC or paid for should be advised to change from variable to fixed. The reason for this (and it has been debated on here before) is that the service plans are (apparently) 2 year service plans, not 2 services, a distinct and important difference. You say the car had it's first service at 8 months old and having covered 9,500 miles? This is not variable servicing, this is fixed... Fixed = 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first. Variable = up to 20,000 miles and 24 months, the car decides for itself based on usage patterns. So your first service was a minor (fixed) service i.e. oil, oil filter (sometimes a pollen filter) and nothing else. You then say the dealer reset the service computer to fixed. From what you've said it was already on fixed and they've simply reset it again, to fixed. Roll on 12 months, the car flags itself as needing a service, you've hit the 12 month 'fixed' prompt, despite only covering 3,500 miles since the last service the previous year. But you mention this is the cars third service? Are you suggesting you bought the car used, if so then this is an important omission. So, as per your first service, again this second service is indeed a minor (fixed) service and should only involve oil, and oil filter. The reason you can't see much difference on the invoice is that there isn't any, other than the pollen filter. A major service isn't due until at least 3 years old or 60,000 miles on any current Skoda model, so your dealer might be right (on my 1.4 TSI Kodiaq the first major service isn't due until the fourth year), the issue is with Skoda UK who keep referring in their literature to only minor and major services, it's valid but not in isolation, it only makes sense if they mention both minor, major, fixed, variable and add clarity around the length of time the service plan is valid for. Either way, until you're able to clarify whether the latest service was the cars 2nd or 3rd then it isn't possible to say whether the dealer is right or wrong.

  21. All of Skoda alloy wheels painted in HA7 are described in Skoda's literature as being 'metallic', I'd therefore be inclined to go for the "sparkle" finish...
  22. You have the paint code, it is HA7...
  23. What makes you think there are two shades? I'd imagine if they were different they'd have different paint codes...
  24. 19" alloys come with under profiled tyres when fitted to the Karoq, so ordering a spare wheel is wise as it'll likely see some use over winter.
  25. silver1011 replied to AndyC's topic in Skoda Karoq
Anything but diesel. One with sensible sized wheels and decent profile tyres. Only a 1.5 TSI you've had on an extended test drive and experienced multiple cold starts. The highest spec you can afford, or at least one with LED headlights.
