  1. Interesting. The car should be constantly checking the status of the exterior lighting, and if it fails to receive a plausible signal from any of the bulbs (even if not turned on) then that would ordinarily trigger the on-dash warning. This used to be relatively easy with incandescent bulbs as the system was able to simply measure resistance across each bulb holder. Presumably the way the system is monitored may well be different for LED's and their much lower levels of resistance? LED lights units are normally sealed too, so instead of replacing individual LED's the whole light unit is simply swapped out. I wonder if turning the fog lights on for the first time was when the failure occurred - hence the immediate on-dash warning. You'd have hoped they were checked both at the factory and also during the dealers Pre-Delivery Inpsection (PDI). Please let us know how you get on.
  2. Do you have the Skoda Connect App installed on your mobile phone and connected to your car? Here is the link to the download portal... https://www.skoda-auto.com/world/skoda-connect It is free for the first 12 months, then is chargeable thereafter (at least here in the UK). Once downloaded, registered and linked to your vehicle you should be able to see the available functions and features available to you and your Octavia - hopefully including the new "Remote Ventilation".
  3. One important omission, did it come with the rear window blinds!?
  4. The stud pattern is the same but I can't say for sure and I'm not a betting man but I'd say the spare wheel fitment is almost guaranteed to be identical.
  5. 115 pages of dissatisfied 1.5 TSI owners here with the cold start judder. I can't believe VAG / Skoda haven't fixed this yet, especially on a new vehicle launch...
  6. Did you get a warning on the dash to alert you to the failure? It might not be related, but could it be the cornering fog lights? It has been known to confuse a few owners before who've noticed only one fog light illuminated when the headlights are on and the wheels turned. Are the fog lights LED, unusual for these to fail so I wonder if its a wiring or software issue?
  7. That must have been some carpark shunt to write off a one year old car? What is the connection with the fog lights?
  8. Not what I was expecting, I thought for a minute Skoda had brought the 'Laura' name back
  9. The 1.5 TSI engine has had a tough life, it really didn't get off to the best of starts with the well documented lack of low down power, more so when cold and during low speed starts. It's also a relatively new engine in VAG's line-up in its current guise and is therefore very emissions-focused. I can't imagine VAG spending much R&D on any new petrol or diesel engines so there is a real chance this will be one of their last. We all know what driving down emissions does to power output and drivability. Long term reliability still remains unproven. Those engines that have had Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPF's) fitted have been known to be down on power too, another restrictive component that seems to have a more adverse affect than DPF's? Moving from a 2.0 TDI 150PS Octavia to a much heavier 1.4 TSI 150PS Kodiaq I was surprised how fast the little petrol engine pulls the Kodiaq along compared to the Octavia. Both nice engines to drive though.
  10. Has it had a cambelt recently, i.e. is the timing is slightly out? Looks like you've a bulb out too.
  11. I answered your questions, you didn't like the answers. I'm done helping the ungrateful.
  12. It's the internet, the written word is harder to apply context to compared to that of the spoken word, no need for the hostility when others are trying to help. The OP asked if their lack of the rear LED strip was normal. I responded by suggesting that it was, and supporting my response with evidence direct from Skoda UK's website. No guessing, no assuming. I then suggested that Skoda have done this and continue to do this with other models, including the Superb and Kodiaq, all in an effort to upsell. Skoda don't help themselves with their poor online content and downloadable literature, but in this example it is clear that neither the SE L or SEL First Edition are equipped as standard with high functionality LED rear lights in the UK. Perhaps there are other options over and above the reverse camera and Matrix headlights that are packaged together with the high functionality LED rear lights, I'd offer a guess but don't want to be accused of "causing confusion". If the plan was to always approach the dealer for clarity then why post on Briskoda if you don't like or believe the responses from other members?
  13. Why are you getting angry with me, it isn't my fault that you didn't do your research before buying the car. Never trust a car salesman. Skoda UK make it clear that both the SE L and SE L First Edition as standard get the 'Low Functionality' rear lights, so no LED strips on the boot. Here it is in black and white... As I've already mentioned, to get the full LED strip you need either the Matrix headlights or the rear camera. The Octavia you've seen with the full strip either had the Matrix headlights and/or the rear camera, or it's a press/launch car with some extra coding tweaks, who know, who cares. As for going off topic, you claimed it didn't make sense as to why Skoda have done what they've done by offering different rear lighting configurations and I offered you my opinion, they've done it for years as have most other manufacturers. I understand you're upset, but don't take it out on those trying to help you.
  14. @chrisluciofg why when starting a new thread do you never come back and either answer the questions asked in response or even thank the other members for taking the time to help you? I've yet to read one of your threads where you've ever come back after the opening post. Certainly puts me off making the effort.
  15. If Ford can't guarantee the doors won't unlock then presumably they also can't guarantee the brakes will work or the airbags will deploy
  16. It's to make more money! The latest 'look' is important to some buyers, and they'll pay for the latest features including LED headlights, tail lights and the latest fad, the dynamic indicators. The partial or full 'C' shape rear lights i.e. low and high functionality is to encourage buyers to add options to their car and spend more money. It's called business. If the lack of the full 'C' isn't to your taste, pay the money and go for the upgrade when ordering new.
  17. Pretty much yep. Until 2010 it was 4 years.
  18. The MkII Superb had twin rear foglights active from the factory in the UK up to the facelift in June 2013 (introduction of rear LED tail lights). Since Skoda's introduction of LED rear tail lights they now only tend to have a singular rear fog light.
  19. The specs for North Macedonia are likely to be different than those of the UK. Presumably your Octavia does not have either the reverse camera or Full Matrix LED headlights?
  20. No, I don't think the SE Technology get keyless entry, it only gets keyless start/stop... Here is the SE L First Edition, the spec sheet specifically calls out both keyless entry and keyless start/stop...
  21. This has been debated for several years on here. Continental have been producing cambelts without a change interval for almost as long. All of this is however irrelevant, Skoda UK insist that the interval is 5 years. Skoda UK's choice has nothing to do with operating conditions, it's their choice and they want you to change it more often than several other markets (the mileage limit is engine and model year dependant). Whether you choose to or not is your choice, the vehicle will be out of the manufacturers warranty by then anyway. What's the average lifespan of a modern car in the UK? 15 years? So two cambelt changes throughout its whole life. Hardly worth losing sleep over.
  22. To get the LED strips that extend into the boot lid you need to ensure your Octavia has the "high functionality" rear LED lights. These are only available as a factory cost option and are bundled-in with several different options packs. 1) Full Matrix LED headlights, rear LED lights (high func) and dynamic indicators... 2) Rear-view parking camera, Full Matrix LED headlights, rear LED lights (high func)... 3) Rear-view parking camera with rear LED lights (high func) and dynamic indicators... As you can see the high functionality LED rear lights can be specced independent of vehicle model and also without the Matrix headlights. You can have a lowly spec SE with the high functionality LED rear lights simply by speccing the reverse camera.
  23. But what if you don't have Virtual Cockpit? Doesn't the 'VIEW' button then allow for the selection of 'Telephone' using the central display between the dials?
  24. The mention of speed George was to reinforce the point that when driving at night on undulating and unilluminated rural roads a vehicle approaching at speed can require the driver of the opposing vehicle to focus more on the oncoming headlights than they might need to if the speeds were much slower, resulting in an increased chance of glare and disorientation. Compare that to being sat stationary where you're free to look all around you i.e. not at the red lights a car length away. Seriously if you're sat there squinting and unable to turn your head slightly or move your gaze away from the rear of the car in front then there are bigger issues at play here. As for your grumbling about poorly adjusted headlights, non-approved bulbs, misuse of rear fog lights, cornering lights, LED DRL's it's all got nothing to do with the intensity of type approved brake lights.
  25. Correct, unless dipped headlights are on the dash lights deliberately remain off, except for the needle illumination. This is to prompt the driver to turn dipped headlights on. The point I was making is for those who want DRL's at full intensity and rear tail lights on during the day then the sidelight position on the switch will achieve this, unlike lots of other vehicles where the LED DRL's either dim or turn off completely and are replaced with a 5W incandescent bulb.
