  1. Thanks everyone for your replies. I went away for a week just as I posted the original question and have just returned. I was just settling into the cosy glow of not changing it until 130,000 miles but after your advice I will get it booked in ASAP Thanks for the information.
  2. My car is just approaching 60,000 miles. Is it necessary yet? Thanks.
  3. Yes moley, I have climate control, but I have never really understood it or used it very much. Further to that, I had a new part/module fitted last year (£60) because it was leaking and my friend that did it told me that I still have a very small leak on a radiator and would cost me in the region of £400 to replace. As I don't use the aircon very much, I will live without the expense. Thanks for your help.
  4. Okay langers2k, I'll go with that, unless anyone has any other idea. Thanks a lot.
  5. I've had this car for over 5 years now and my daughter has just asked me what this is. Her father-in-law has one in his Honda Accord and like me he doesn't know. Can someone please enlighten me? My best guess is something to mount a satnav on. Thanks.
  6. Hi DJSmiley, we ordered the tyres on-line through the Tyreshopper (National Tyres) website, so might be a bit of a 'faff' trying to change things. We're pretty happy with our choice as they seem to be well recommended in the posts. Thanks for your interest and input. Carbman.
  7. Thanks everyone for all the input/advice. DJSmiley, you were just a bit late with your suggestion about all-season tyres. We ordered a full set of Goodyear Efficient Grip yesterday and will be fitted at National Tyres in Barnsley on Tuesday. Thanks again everyone, but don't you think it's a bit of a minefield with all the choice?
  8. Just got home from our annual 740 mile round trip to Cornwall, at the beginning of which I sensed/felt the dreaded rumble of mis-aligned tracking. It was only very slight and only was aware at about 65+mph. On our return I checked the tyres and sure enough the o/side front is worn away on the inside, not too badly but is now illegal. All tyres are Dunlop BluResponse 205/55 16 91V. The car has done 58,200 miles, 43000 in our ownership. The front tyres were replaced at 34,000 miles at first MOT and seemed okay before the present problem. The rears, as far as I'm aware are the originals. MOT coming up in September, so thought it might be prudent to replace all 4 in one hit. We're both retired and wondered about a decent budget brand. We don't do a lot of motorway work. The Dunlops are rated 'B' for Fuel efficiency and 'A' for Wet Grip/Braking. I am very fuel efficiency conscious. Got 66.1 mpg overall to Cornwall, on the 'in car' computer. Re-fill computed out at nearer 70mpg. Any thoughts on other brands please?
  9. Aahhh! great for that Anddenton. I'll start looking around for a decent replacement. Thanks.
  10. I had reason to sit in the car parked up for over 30 mins this morning. Needless to say I fell asleep and was awoken by the above very low bong.....bong sound. The vehicle was in 'P' mode, all doors were closed, ignition was off, light switch was in headlight position. Switched light switch to 'off' but it still sounded. Then pulled ignition key out but it still did it when my passenger returned. Just wondered what it was as can't find anything in owners handbook. Thanks.
  11. Thanks everyone for your input. I have learned quite a bit now about these bulbs. In retrospect I feel quite happy with my purchase and as some of you have said, they are cheap enough to have spares in the car for when they are needed. Thanks again for all your points of view. Much appreciated.
  12. Thanks for that xman. Mine are coming from carparts4less. Good to feel they are reasonable quality. As I've said, one has already done 5 months with no problems.
  13. Yeah, Ring are economical too and you seem to get decent reliability from them. Nice bike by the way. do you ride it a lot? I only managed 1700 miles last year on mine and if the weather doesn't improve soon I might not even do that this year.
  14. I have just needed to replace a second headlight bulb in 5 months (different sides). When I purchased the first replacement I was shrewd and bought a spare (if ones gone the other won't be long after). Now that the spare has been used, I was looking on-line to get some more spares/stand-by. I paid £5 each for my original replacements from my local car spares shop. Neolux (Osram) N499. I have just bought 4 of the same, on-line for £1.44 each. What I'm asking is if anyone has experience of these cheap bulbs being inferior in any way to more expensive replacements, bearing in mind one replacement has already lasted 5 months and I haven't noticed any lack of efficiency in its' operation. I regularly drive in the dark, including motorway work and haven't had a problem. I'm 71, ex HGV driver and don't race about, but keep up with the traffic and overtake when necessary. Any thoughts appreciated.
  15. Thanks everyone for replying to my question. I can't believe that VW exec's are continuing to deny that there is a problem against all the evidence. There seems to be very little moral fibre in people in exalted places these days. They're only in it for the huge salary!
  16. I have had my letter from DM Keith in Wakefield to have my emissions problem sorted, but have been told by a self-employed mobile mechanic that I have known for many years, a VW specialist that he does work for has told him that cars that have had their emissions problem 'sorted', can't be made to run right. Can anyone shine any light on this. If that's the case, I will leave mine as it is. It runs perfectly so why should I risk it for a few emissions. Bus operators don't give a damn about their emissions!!
  17. Interesting that last post. I have sorted my problem, the jets were blocked.......with some brown stuff!! I will keep an eye on the problem and see what happens. Thanks everyone for your help and input. Regards, carbman.
  18. Okay, thanks everyone for your help. Will check out everything today (hopefully) and get back to you shortly.
  19. The rear washer on my 2012 1.6TDi has ceased to function. The wiper is fine and the pump is working fine on the front screen. I don't know how to release the cover inside the hatch to reveal the pipe work. Can anyone please give me some advice where I should be looking. Regards, carbman.

  21. Thanks everyone for your help. Will go through all the checks later on today.
  22. The yellow bulb failure light has started coming on in my '62' reg car. I have checked all the bulbs I'm aware of, but can't see any that have failed. Is this a common fault on this car or is there something I'm missing? Any help please?
