But the new tax laws only affect new cars not existing & used cars???? So if you were going to replace the Citigo with a NEW car it would be relevant but you haven't so I struggle to see how this has affected your decision to swap now????

Yes, the plan was to replace with the new shape when it would be out, but due to the new taxation laws means it won't benefit with the current low road tax.

And the three things you mention in point four were all sorted with the MY16 car that was launched in 2015. ;)

Glad to hear it. Even though I did add my own string boot light to our Citigo.

Good luck to you with your new car which sounds superb. Can't help thinking it's an unfair comparison as the Smart is far more expensive to buy thus the more upmarket items on the smart and the sparse nature of the Citigo.

Value for money is what the Citigo is about and I think it scores well there.

I left Skoda some time ago now but I have always missed my Fabia of which I owned 3. I am now aged over 70 yrs and looking at insurance cost as they have risen lately for the over 65's (around £300 a year according to Uswitch) I am seriously considering buying a Citigo and have just returned to the Briskoda fold to start researching .

Hope the Smart does well for you, they do look nice.

Fair point, i shouldn't compare the Citigo and the Smart, instead a higher spec Up is a better comparison.

But from a price point of view you would be surprised. We only paid £1500 more for a 6mth old Smart White Edition than we paid for a new Citigo Elegance ASG.

  3. We have finally sold our 2014 Citigo. SWMBO wanted a change and with the new tax laws changing soon we decided to swap it for 6mth old Smart ForFour 0.9 EDC (Auto).

As a lifelong fan of cars from VAG, the current Citigo was our 7th car from the group of cars.

We enjoyed the Citigo and was a perfect for the 2.5 years we owned it for. To make it even more special was the wealth of information provided by the great guys n gals on this forum. You have provided a wealth of information on everything about the Citigo and also when i had my Octavia vRS.

I'd also like to share my views on the current Citigo and why we decided to move manufacturer. As a city car it is perfect but some of the elements need a refresh and below is a list:

    1) The current ASG gearbox is awful and paired with the current engine is lackluster. I know the new UP will have a TSI engine but i think this will only come with a manual and the ASG will only be available with the std 75bhp non-turbo engine. This was the main factor for us to go for a Smart. The 0.9T 90bhp with a dual clutch gearbox is awesome. The wife enjoys it in normal drive mode and i get to put it in sport mode and use the paddle shift! Also, I'll be looking at getting it remapped once the warranty expires and have been quoted £300 for a 20bhp increase, which will match the Brabus edition.

    2) The turning circle on the Citigo is not ideal for a city car, you'd be amazed on the turning circle on the Smart, allegedly it is better than a London taxi. But this is achieved because the engine is in the rear which means the boot isn't spacious as the Citigo ;-(

    3) The current Stereo and Satnav need replacing, i know the new UP has a new stereo and it is now using the phone as a Satnav, hopefully this will filter down to the Citigo. The TomTom stereo on the Smart if far superior and better to use.

    4) Other small annoying things like: single electric window button on the drivers side, no boot light and no string on the parcel shelf. Hopefully these too get sorted on the new model.

Hopefully the main thing i hope VAG sort out is installing a DSG with a TSI engine, trust me that would make the car far superior to the other cars in this sector and the main reason for us to leave.

Finally like to say thank you for all the years of advice provided on here for the two Skoda's we have owned. I will still pop in now and then to see what is going on.

All the best over and out!

  4. I've recently upgraded the interior light with a LED Festoon bulb and its nice and bright in the front of the car but I noticed it is still quite dark in the back and especially with the high headrest of the front seat doesn't help.

    Any suggestions?

Do I upgrade to one of these - 3B0947105C and if so how easy is it to install?

    Cheers.

  5. I know on my wife's Citigo with it being an ASG Auto I need to turn the key so the dials light up then put my foot on the brake, put it in neutral and then start it.

If I do all of the above quickly then it won't start. Just something to we have got used to.

Not sure if this the case with the manual gearboxes?

  6. First of all apologies as this is related to a non Skoda car but I posted this other VW forums and hadn't ay responses so I try u go guys (as Skoda owners tend to be more informative  ).

Looking at replacing a RNS315 on a 2013 VW Passat B7 with reverse camera, DAB and MDI with a RNS510 model P and wandering if all the above add ons will carry on working?

    Any help appreciated. Thx.

  7. Just thought I share my experience with wewantanycar.com...

We have just sold our 2004 Kia Picanto with WWAC in Leeds. Their website initially offered £1100. But after they 'inspected' it their computer system offered £550 which was £150 less than the dealer offered as P/X.

I asked for them to revise the offer considering the low mileage of our car and at then after some discussions we settled for £900 minus admin fees so we got £840 which was better than what the dealer offered.

I could have got about £1100 if I sold privately but I didn't fancy the hassle.

I did some research and these guys are part owned by Manheim Auctions who own a wide range of automotive companies including www.motors.co.uk and www.wewantanycar.com

Speaking to the guy he mentioned their aim is to buy cars competitively and shift them through Manheim's auction business.

Note: As I said this is our experience and this might not be for everyone.

  8. Lol, I've just tried getting a price for a Citigo Elegance which I haven't picked up yet and the price quoted is £8779. Almost 2k less than the price I'm paying, hehe!

On a serious note I'm going to try out WBAC and WWAC next week to try sell our 10 year old Kia Picanto. I'm not expecting much but as I've got the week off work I'd thought I'd give them a try and see what they offer before putting the car on Autotrader/Gumtree and ebay.
