  1. Thanks guys, I torn now as I need to be doing 50mpg or above to break even with the fuel allowance from work. I normally drive with cruise control set to 70mph on the motorways for work so it sounds like I have half a chance of achieving this.

When I'm driving at the weekends I don't really mind what the fuel consumption so it doesn't matter that it'll drop a fair bit around town/A roads.

Went to see one in the flesh today, lovely car, very similar to my Passat inside which is to be expected I suppose. Less than impressed with the customer service however!

  2. I've been mucking around looking at all sorts of cars for a few months now but I keep coming back to the vRS!

I'm slightly concerned about fuel consumption as I do around 20k miles a year, mainly on the motorway. Can you post you average mpg please and an idea of the type of driving you tend to do?

Looking at the build dates thread I may need to get a wriggle on as I need it for the end of October.

    Cheers

  3. I've had a poke around on that forum, had hoped it would be a bit more like this one :)

I've heard about the 2.2 engine failures which is the only thing that's putting me off at the moment, ticks all the other boxes. As I'll only be keeping it while under warranty in theory I should be ok.

Not too bothered about being dull etc (I can't believe I just typed thst), I spend most of my life sat on the motorway so as long as it's comfortable cruising then I'll be happy.

  4. Thanks. Don't need to worry too much about rust etc as I'll only be keeping it for 4 years (work out out scheme). Obviously depreciation comes into it but the way I see it is that with my current company car I'm effectively renting it for 3 years then giving it back so as long as I break even I'm no worse off than I am now.

  5. Looking a t getting a Mazda 6 Tourer SEL Nav, 2.2D 150 for my next car. Will be covering around 20k miles a year, mostly in the motorway.

Had a test drive and really liked it, would be interested to hear opinions of any owners especially with regards to fuel consumption.

  6. Looking at replacing my company car in a few months so trying to get a few ideas together. Currently driving a Passat Estate, doing around 24k miles a year and probably carry around 60kg of 'kit' around with me for work.

Has anyone got an opinion on how capable the 1.6 diesel would be covering this sort of mileage compared with the 2 litre? I'd be keeping the car for 4years so would have a fair chunk on miles on it at the end.

  7. To ask this in here but can anyone recommend something quick and easy to remove dead flys and general road dirt please? It's for my work car that spends its whole life on the motorway so I just need something quick and easy to use and it's constantly dirty.

    Cheers,

  8. Your correct in that when it ticks over at around 1000rpm its doing a passive regen and you'll get no lights up. The sign its finished is when tickover returns to normal, so if thats happened its happy days

If you interupt a regen by switching the engine off the fans go flat out as they need to cool the dpf down as it gets hot during a regen and annoy your neighbours, but at that stage it's abandoned the regen and won't just carry on if you start the engine again - you then have to wait for the soot you've already burnt off during the interupted regen to build up again before it triggers another.

Sounds like yours completed its cycle so just carry on as usual.

If you look on suks website theres a bulletin for both pd and cr engine regens. Have a read and it should answer your questions. With crs you just basically carry on driving normally until its finished.

Cheers. The pdf  says to drive at 40mph .... for 10-15 minutes, Is slowing down for roundabouts is OK for does it really have to be 40mph+ for 10-15 minutes without dipping below that for the whole time? Just trying to work out whether a motorway run would be needed.

Also we had to stop and switch off engine while the revs were at 1k on idle, when we restarted approx. 15 minutes later the revs were at 1k on idle for a few minutes then dropped to 800rpm again but I dont see how a regen could be successful.

  9. Sat in traffic this evening the idle sat at 1000 rpm so I'm assuming the DPF was trying to regenerate? Unfortunately we were in stop/start traffic so couldn't do too much about it but it was only Saturday when we were sat on the motorway for 2 hours doing a constant 70, would I be right in assuming we were unlucky and it didn't need to regenerate then but it does now?

Should we take the car on the motorway tomorrow for 20mins as on the way home the idle dropped back to 800 rpm with no warning light etc.

    Cheers

  10. I think I know what you're talking about as I get exactly the same thing if I don't change to a low enough gear. It usually happens turning out of junctions where I don't have to stop and leave it in third instead of changing down to second, my excuse is I usually drive a DSG so forget to change gear sometimes. Think it's perfectly normal though, you may just need to change your driving style?

  11. Has Autoglym Lifeshine put onto my wife's new Rapid for free when we purchased it a month ago. I phoned the dealer last week to ask if they had registered it yet as we haven't had anything through from Autoglym to be told it can take up to 6 weeks, previously I was told I'd get an email as soon as they had registered it.

Is 6 weeks normal or should I start complaining a little louder? I'm not that bothered really but it's more the fact they don't seem to care now they've sold a car!
