Might be worth a try... drive with the seat folded down to see if the sound disappears and then get them to look at the catch in the seat; if only I'd asked what they did to the catch. Oh well.

I have this issue on my MY16 estate.

It only does it with seatback up. So not boot catch or parcel shelf.

It could be seatback catch but it still did it with father-in-law sat behind me so I thought the weight would take up any movement.

Noise is really annoying.

I tried to take off fabric trim behind seatback in the boot but it is massive and you have to take loads apart.

I was wondering if a 'module' was stuck on a metal panel which had come loose.

When looking at 2nd hand MK3 models I did ask and it was about £300 for a dealer retrofit (cruise).

There seems to be a number of issues. I tried finding out on this forum about a year ago.

 

Hardware: You need: 1. MFSW Buttons (dont need a complete wheel, they fit in the 3 Spoke) 2. Wiring loom from buttons to Steering Wheel controller 3. Correct Steering Wheel Controller 4. Correct 'Highline' (maybe Mid) CAN Gateway.

 

My MY16 SE has cruise, and I understand has the correct Steering Wheel Controller when comparing other MFSW cars Part Nos.  Although I also spec'ed Front Parking & Heated Seats, my CAN Gateway is still a 'Lowline' Controller.  The CAN Gateway is located above the Clutch/Brake pedal. Stand on your head!

 

Software/Hardware/Firmware: Second hand modules will have 'Component Protection' (CP) so they are 'locked' to the ECU/Car they were removed from. I don't know if the Steering Wheel Controller has CP but the CAN Gateway does.

 

If you put in a 'brand new' (you can buy the part from Skoda/VW) CAN Gateway it will not have any settings stored. So you need to use VCDS and note down your current Adaptations, then programme the new BCM.

 

I have been told however that there are a number of systems you cannot do yourself, only Skoda can do using their systems (ETKA?) These are the Battery values for Start/Stop and the 'Driver Profile' bits (Eco, Normal & Sport)

 

Personally I can live without Stop/Start with my Mon-Fri driving to work pattern. I would prefer to buy a normal 'cheap' battery compared to the expensive Stop/Start one come replacement time.

'Driver Profile' to be honest I just have it in 'Normal' so again not something I would miss.

 

So, I think you could 'do this at home' but you would loose Stop/Start & Driver Profiles.  You can buy the parts.

But I can't see why SKODA could not program the CAN Gateway so everything works.

I first heard of this 'clever' design feature over on Pistonheads.

 

It was mentioned, I can't remember if it was from the AA etc or a Skoda dealer, but they said you can grab hold of the handle and pull/twist it with the door shut. They have not had a bonnet handle break. - just in case you don't have a 12V supply handy to plug into the ciggy hole.

I see my father-in-law's MY16 Golf 1.4TSI 125BHP has normal looking front suspension drop links, where as my MY Octy 1.4TSI 150BHP has droplinks made from pressed steel.

The Golf ones look like they would be stiffer.

I have just seen in VCDS that my Lowline Gateway has a 'tick box' for MFSW?  - I thought only Highline had the option?

 

Surely there would not be the option if the Module/Gateway did not support it?

 

So now I am wondering if on MY16 / MIB2 cars, MFSW is featured on 'Lowline' Gateway Modules?  There was not any other tasty options in the Long Code Helper.

 

I have Front Parking Assist and normal Cruise, which I believe is controlled by that Module.

Ok, so airbag cable from Skoda dealer is just over £37 and the Gateway module is £127 (VAT included on prices).

 

The modules on ebay are pretty much all 'used' so will have Component Protection activated if fitted onto another car. 

An independant specialist told me you need the module in the car to remove Component Protection, and you have to have pretty fancy kit to do that (or main dealer facilities).

Add in the Component Protection removal cost + the 2nd hand module and you are close to the New Dealer Price for a module.

I am trying to create a guide for MFSW (Multi Functional Steering Wheel) on Octavia Mk3. You need suitable steering wheel and Gateway (J533 in VCDS) controllers. The correct Gateway controllers are 'Highline' versions.

EBay is full of Highline Gateway controllers. But can they be re-coded or are they just expensive lumps of plastic? Someone must be doing something with them. Do they have Component Protection?

Can I fit a Highline Golf controller in my Octavia?

Czech websites have (I think) new controllers for about 90 euros delivered, and as I understand new controllers are OK to use. Not sure what they cost from UK Skoda dealer?

I have lots of questions and not many answers regarding the Gateway's.

Hello all,

I would like to create a definitive guide to fitting a MFSW. There seems to be bits of information about and I think some people have done it.

As the Mk3 gets older more and more people will want to fit them.

As I see it there are 4 parts needed for MFSW:

1. Buttons (MY16 buttons differ. ‘Voice Search’ is on the left handside instead of ‘Audio Source’).
2. Compatible steering wheel module
3. Cable to link Buttons to steering wheel module
4. Highline Gateway Module

 

Does the circuit board in the buttons sort out the difference in pre-MY16 and MY16 buttons, or will the buttons end up doing the wrong thing? We have part numbers - 5E0919719A & 5E0919719B B seems to be for DGS paddles, but B also works on manual cars.

My Octy SE has a compatible steering wheel module (matches VRS's modules on VCDS). Do all Mk3's have a compatible module, or is it because I have Cruise Control?

Now the difficult one. The Highline Gateway Module or J533 Module on VCDS. My SE has the Lowline Gateway Module, which is not MFSW compatible, so it would need replacing.

 

There are hell of a lot of part numbers for this. We have Software and Hardware versions. I have scanned 2 VRS's and they both had F hardware - Part No SW: 5Q0 907 530 AF HW: 5Q0 907 530 F  & Part No SW: 5Q0 907 530 AJ HW: 5Q0 907 530 F

What do we know about Component Protection and Skoda. (in simple terms) VW & Audi use it to stop stolen stereos being plugged into other cars. Is the Gateway Component Protected?  There are lots of Gateways for sale. Can we use Hardware version M? This seems to be more common than F.

[Low frequency 'boom' in cabin]

Generally I dont have any boom-boom-boom in my Estate, but over Easter to took a trip onto a road I don't normally travel on and there was a short section of tarmac that did cause my ears to tingle (Basingstoke to Andover).

There was 4.25 people in the car and a boot full of baby equipment so I am not sure if that made a difference.

The road 'looked' ok but there was certainly something in the surface that caused some boom frequencies.  I didn't ask the others if they noticed anything.

If only I understood all the equations in my Noise, Vibration & Harshness module, it might have helped!

I like Smartlink. I have sent txt and WhatsApp messages just using the voice commands and it works well.

I only have Bolero so I also use it for navigation.

You can also ask questions for example 'who is the Prime Minister of England' and get a spoken answer. Some things it sounds like it displays an answer so I don't know yet if that pops up while stationary/engine off.

I am not a Skype user so can't comment on that.

Google are big in safety so limit what you can 'see'. Which is right really. Don't want to be reading Wikipedia while doing 70!

Car based systems are only going to improve. Early days for them at the moment.

Have you the Highline controller for the steering wheel? It is another vital part in the upgrade. My Octy has Lowline controller so I would also need to upgrade that.

Car (vRS) was built I think Sept '15. Owner will pop back over to mine after Easter so we can have a look.

Lights we off and engine was not running (does have KESSY though). I suppose the 03 cornering headlights could be a red herring, there are lots of things to adjust and I might have missed something like going into Module A5 'coding light assist High beam assist'.

Rear teardrop was also reported not to work. I will try coding it on mine to test.

I was enabling a fellow member's HBA on his MY16 Octy vRS. There was one thing that was slightly different from the instructions and it has thrown up a fault.

 

When recoding the module is says:

 

Change Byte 2 Bit 0-2 to a value of 03 using the dropdown menu for models with Xenons.

 

On this members car value 03 said something like this:

 

03 Lighting: Bi-Xenon Headlights with High Assist & Adaptive Cornering.

 

I think 02 was something like : 02 Lighting: Bi-Xenon Headlights with Light Assist

 

I should have grabbed a screen grab.

 

So should I have selected value 02 instead of 03?

[Sun Shades]

Just to say I bought the Superskoda ones and fitted them on Saturday. I am very pleased. It is great that you can wind the rear windows down and they stay in place.

The rear one was quite tricky, but got there with some brute force. I used 3 clips for the rear.

[Mud flaps]

Fitted front mud flaps yesterday, bought them from Superskoda and they are genuine Skoda items.

I took off the front wheels and used a 6.5mm drill.

They sit on the wheel arch liner so no film needed (this is on mk3 non vRS or Scout ).

Odd. I thought that ESP was always on? Maybe it means something else.
