I've just had a problem where my Skoda Superb Estate 2011 panoramic roof wouldn't close completely. It's the first time I've used it since last autumn and I often have a problem with it on first use. It opened a bit then stopped and same when trying to close it. Sure, the runners/rails/tracks were a bit dry but was that it? I sprayed some silicone spray on as much of the track as I could get to and tried again, hoping that the silicone would spread to the bits I couldn't reach. Meanwhile, I learned that there is a 'force limiter' that stops the movement and moves it back a couple of centimeters if it detects a blockage. There was no blockage but the jerky movement suggested that that was the force limiter in action on the dry track. I also learned that if you pull down the edge of the control knob when turning it it overrides the force limiter. Once the roof is closed you can pull down the edge of the control knob for about 20 seconds (without trying to move the roof) and it will do a reset of the switches and mechanism etc. Anyway, the silicone did the job and now it opens and closes fairly smoothly.

Another vote of thanks to Sanmart. I have a Superb Estate (2011). I removed the glove tray and insulating cover under the motor, disconnected cables and removed motor. The fan blades rotated, though a little stiff. Kept spinning it for a minute or so and squirted WD40 in the general direction of the motor. Put it back in and started car and it worked immediately. Now just need to refit glove tray and cables and Bob's yer uncle. Smiling at saving of £300-400.

Maps v16 is also known as 8536.

Gosh, that's an old post, I'm way beyond those levels now. Currently my firmware is at 5274 (though I don't expect any new versions for this old Columbus) and maps are v14 8477 and I'm looking for v15 which should be out in the next few weeks. As for the source of my updates I'm not really allowed to say as the moderator doesn't like that - even though Skoda is notoriously hopeless at providing this information and service. All I can say is that Google is your friend here. Good Hunting!

After a long cold spell a couple of weeks ago when I didn't use the car the Columbus didn't start until the car was well warmed up. This has happened in previous cold winters so I'm not sure if it's a fault or a protection mechanism to prevent damage to the hard drive. Either way I don't worry about it.

A simple map software update does not affect any other files on a Columbus so you are safe to go ahead. Some firmware updates will delete saved personal files though.

The 5230 firmware is, I'm sure, recent enough to enable the 'hidden' menus so try pressing the SETUP button for at least 20 seconds. This should first take you to the version display where you presumeably obtained the details you supplied, but then if you keep pressing it should take you to an even more detailed menu which tells you everything you'd ever want to know about your Columbus.

You should only be compensated for loss. I don't consider I have sustained any loss - I bought the car I wanted, it performs as expected and is a joy to own and use. The fact that the emission data is incorrect is a concern but doesn't affect the car before or after the 'fix'. I know we now live in a 'compensation culture' where everyone is to blame except ourselves - but I don't subscribe to that.

Confusingly '2724' is the firmware (operating system) and was issued around 2010 so has never been updated - in fact there are few updates available for 'A' units. You don't report the map software level but it's likely to be v6 or v7 if never updated. Map software is largely independent of the firmware level except that early version had the hard disk partitions allocated differently and the newer map software may not fit as it has grown in size over the years. However, it's worth a try, you just post the DVD into the slot and wait. If it is acceptable it will access for a few minutes before asking you if you want to write it to the hard drive or just use it as a DVD - Choose 'Install'. After that it takes around 45 minutes to install the new map software so don't panic. V14 maps have been available for about a month now but v13 will be so much better that the v6 or v7 you've got. For what it's worth 'mpw246pl' your unit is identical to mine fitted in my Superb delivered 1st Dec 2011. I have upgraded the map software (so far successfully) every year from the then new v8.0 (7690) > v9.0 (7918) > v10 (8048) > v11 (8117) > v12 (8195) > v13 (8348) and am now looking out for v14 which should arrive this month. Re firmware, I have only upgraded twice, from the supplied 3984 to 5270 in Dec 2013 and then to 5274 in Mar 2015 - I doubt whether there'll be any others available for this unit now. I will not say where my software/firmware came from but it clearly works and you are welcome to borrow the DVDs to test if you wish (as a 'diagnostic' measure of course). PS: Rustynuts is very good but can be a little brusque at times. Sorry Rustynuts.

It's worth going through all the settings. Even 'Factory Reset' can be selected by function, you don't have to do 'All'. Even if you do 'All' you won't lose maps or firmware, just your POI's that you've saved and sadly there's no way to save and restore them. As you know there are 3 or 4 different volume levels for music/radio, Traffic Announcements, Nav Announcements and Reverse Bleeper, all of which can be individually adjusted while they are actually playing.

I had a similar whine which was the turbo. Luckily it was just under three years old and so replaced under warranty - a £1600 job!

My Columbus is just a few months newer than yours and it came with 3984 installed. I have updated two or three times and am now at 5274 which you could go to directly. Some people have reported an increase but it's very subjective.

v13 maps for Western Europe are 8048 (see previous post #469 for display).

I assume you've tried to do this using the 'SETUP' button? Then go to 'Media Set-up' and activate the appropriate features.

'8196' are v12 for Europe East. It looks like v13 for both East (8349?) and West (8348?) Europe are just becoming available (it's usually about this time of year) but we can't tell you how to get them other than visit your dealer and get a blank stare.

If your Superb is late 2010 it may already have v7 maps (shown as 7333), otherwise it'll be v6 or 6.1 (7011 or 7074 respectively). But Rustynuts is right as usual, it's the firmware that determines 7-character postcodes, not the maps alone. It might help initially if you carefully remove the Columbus and photograph the label with the 3T0 035 680... number on it. You'll find detailed instructions elsewhere on this forum. PS: v12 (8195) is current map version and we are expecting v13 in the next few weeks.

Never being able to listen to ZZ-Top is a bonus in my opinion.
