  1. I had to have mine replaced at 45k. I chose to get it done straight away rather than risk failure at 70mph and the droning noise was a pain. The wheels felt fine with no play but when I examined the old bearings off the car they felt quiet gritty.
  2. The 1.6 tdi was intrduced in 2010 and all 1.6 tdi Fabia`s have a DPF. The 1.9tdi & sdi Fabia was made from 2001 to 2010 and no Fabia 1.9tdi OR 1.9sdi have a dpf. So the youngest Fabia diesel without a DPF is a 2010 Fabia 1.9tdi. There none on autotrader at the moment but there are four 2009`s. You might finf the following link useful. Cars without a DPF - (dpfproblems.net)
  3. If you are looking for reliability I would search this forum for how many people have problems with the 1.6 tdi flashing glow plug warning light. Lots of sensor , egr, problems especially if this engine is not getting any long runs. 1.9tdi are reliable but none made after 2010.
  4. Mine was not so reliable on 12 mile journeys. It seem they run well when doing big milage but not so good on anything less than 30 mile runs. And no good if you had the delaer "fix" done. had enough after 4 years and chopped in for a non dpf Fabia.
  5. My 2011 1.6tdi often had a high tickover. Its part of the regen process. Sometimes flashing glow plug too that cleared after a run. I think it flashes when the DPF is over a certain % of particles and needs to burn them off. I had the following replaced during my ownership, O2 Sensor, EGR valve & exhaust gas temp sensor. I was glad to get swap for 1.9tdi. I had a slightly sticky accelerator pedal on my 1.9 but cured it with WD40.
  6. More important is are you doing long journeys to keep the DPF running OK. This car needs long runs every week to help the DPF regenerate. If you just pootle around town a 2010 1.9tdi fabia diesel would be better. Has it had the emissions fix? If you have no knowledge of theses thing I suggest you google them.
  7. Change the oil and filter every 10k and the engine will outlive every thing else on the car. My family put 190k on a mk1 1.9 sdi and the engine was fine when we sold on. This engine was the taxi drivers favourite in the octavia before euro 5 regs often reaching 250 to 300k.
  8. The downside to a remap is you fill up your DPF quicker and regen more often. If you typically do longish journeys (20miles +) it will not be a problem. I tried a remap and frequently had the yellow warning light which would only go after a 70 mph 20 minute drive. I returned it to standard and chopped in for a 1.9tdi and enjoyed excellent reliability since.
  9. An alternative is 195 55 R15. This will give a very similar speedometer reading. Compare both sizes here. https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/
  10. I have scoured this site for and tried all the service reset methods and failed. Even weird one like putting on hazard flashers. Does anyone know a cheap OBD2 scanner that will turn off the service now message and that little spanner. Car is an 1.9tdi 2009.
  11. My recommendation is that people stick to OEM head lights then I will not be constantly dazzled by other drivers in the winter months on my B road commute. And if dipped headlights were properly adjusted that would help too.
  12. Just done mine (1.9tdi) but after reconnecting the fuel pipes I switch the ignition on and off 5 times without starting the engine. it has worked well so I will stick to this method.
  13. The 1.6tdi tickover is raised to 1k when doing a DPF regeneration or batter charge is low. typically in winter when headlights are used more. I have heard that the car will not allow revs to be higher than 2.5k at stand still to protect itself. But why would you want to.
  14. Buy the correct tool off ebay for £2.89 ALLOY WHEEL NUT BOLT CAP REMOVER TOOL KEY FOR AUDI VW SKODA SEAT or long nosed pliers. Check the tools in your spare wheel kit. There may be one there.
  15. Yes you are right to rule out the 1.6. To many glow plug warning lights. I had 3 on mine. Is the TSI timing chain problems only on specific years? 1.9tdi gets my vote. looking on auto trader & ebay there is 1 red 1.9 with 48k and some that are 80k upwards. There are more 2009 -2010 1.9tdi Octavia than fabia. Might be worth a test drive.
  16. It needs a diagnosis plugging in to find the fault. Skoda dealer will have the latest software but will charge £60ish just to diagnose. I had 3 of these on my old 1.6tdi. They were O2 sensor. exhaust gas temp sensor and the failed egr. Dealer said the egr would have been £600 if not done under warranty as it needed 5 hours labour. Chopped mine in for the ever reliable 1.9tdi.
  17. You have statutory right for 6 months to return a car to a motor trader to have any problems put right. If the trader is any good he will take a look at the car without any fuss or quibbles. It will be a normal part of his business. On your fault I had what I was convinced was a rear brake squeal. It turned out to be the front pads needed a little silicone grease on the pad / caliper sliders. Cost me £20. it will probably be a simple fix for your motor trader tom rectify.
  18. Agree. I had 1.6tdi and traded for a 1.9tdi. More reliable simpler engine. easy to service. Same mpg. No DPF to worry about.
  19. I think some more details might help you sell these such as tyre size and how many mm of tread left on the tyres.
  20. I had to have one drilled out by a tyre fitting business. When I last changed my car the first thing I did was remove the security bolts and replace with a standard ones. I might put them bock in if I had to park some where dodgy overnight.
  21. Has Skoda gone back to a green logo and dropped the black vauxhall look alike logo? The local dealer has a big green Skoda logo with silver trim on its main wall facing the public.
  22. I think what you are describing is an active regen when your ECU raises tick over and injects an fuel on exhaust stroke to heat up the DPF. A passive regen is when the ECU does nothing extra but the soot in the DPF is burnt off due to high engine load.
  23. My 2009 1.9tdi had a droning noise from the front one year ago. Cured by having both wheel bearings replaced. The mechanic put it in the air and spun each wheel by hand to demonstrate both wheels were noisy.
