  1. 1/ try a U-turn in town.

    2/ for the vast majority the Yeti has more than enough capability

    3/ and in the real world, more economical

    4/ sometimes less is more

     

    The Yeti's fantastic turning circle will certainly be something I'll miss (11.6m v 10.3m "kerb to kerb")

  2. After nearly five years of happy ownership, I will soon be saying goodbye to my Yeti and saying hello to a new LR Disco Sport.

     

    I say "soon", but I only placed the order yesterday and delivery is in fact not expected until Mar/Apr.  I'll do a compare & contrast once I've got my hands on the new motor.

     

    Has anyone else experienced both vehicles?

    I had a look at the 500x in my local Fiat dealer yesterday.  It looked to be very nicely finished and with a more attractive & modern interior than the Yeti.  The packaging however was nothing like as good as the Tardis like Yeti - the rear tailgate is lower and the seating not as flexible.  I didn't drive it but from what I gather the turning circle of the 500x/Renegade is a lot worse than the Yeti's.  Tempting but I'll stick with my Yeti for now.

  4. I had a sit in one on Friday. Not a patch on the Yeti, feels cheap and pretty small inside, poor visibility. Not interested at all. Nothing clever about the rear seats which a real strength of the Yeti.

     

    I also had a look at one today.  I agree that the interior is less roomy than the Yeti and the rear seat configuration not as clever.  However I really liked the interior quality and think just a tad better than the rather bland Yeti's.  I am also a fan of the look of the car outside and the engines / gearboxes look good.  The acid test will be how it actually drives but I am certainly interested and will be taking one for a test.  Looking at the configurator, I think the 170bhp 4x4 Petrol Limited in Commando (the car seems to suit more subdued hues) might just be my next car!  

  5. My sister & brother-in-law have just ordered a new 1.4 Yeti - like ours in white.

    It will be nice to see 2 white SM's in front of the house on family visits.

    Alan / Louise - if you have made it here, this is where the cool Yeti kids hang out.

Thanks for this and glad to see that your own Yeti is about to be made - they're still rare beasts in these parts (as far as I know, based on observation, only mine and one based around Grassington within a 20-mile radius). Middleham is twinned with Agincourt, hence my wish to revisit (I first went when accompanying a school party more than 20 years ago). We shall be staying one night near Colmar so I certainly intend to drive the Route des Vins and pick up some samples!

    Mrs YY and I were in Alsace last month. We stayed in Riquewihr; a little touristy it has to be said but the Route des Vins has some lovely villages. If you get a chance, you should see if you can get a tasting at Marcel Deiss in Bergheim - he makes truly wonderful wines!

  7. What a beautiful car the 504 cabriolet is / was. Just shows how far Peugeot have fallen.

    Of the same ilk - and almost as gorgeous - you could also consider a Fiat 124 Spider

    I am not sure about the situation in France, but how about going down the classic route?

    Morgan 4/4 sounds good and you are unlikely to lose any money.

    In terms of the French route, the 504 cabriolet is nice, but could be pricey.

  8. Like most, I am firmly in the "spare wheel" camp.

    Also, the height of the Yeti roof is such that I'm not sure the higher floor is such a problem; I can fit a (mountain) bike upright in the back without too much difficulty - just need to take off the front wheel and lower the saddle post. Infact the false floor creates a loading height flush to the tailgate so could even be an advantage. The only possible issue is the shopping "hooks" become rather pointless with the increased floor height - hardly the end of the world!!

  9. I work for BP. I don't work in refining though so I am no expert but I my understanding is the process is as described by Llanigraham - i.e. same basic fuel (to the relevant standard) plus customer specific additives.

    I am interested in many people's preference for Shell over BP though (or Total, Esso, Texaco etc. for that matter). I understand someone buying supermarket over branded on the basis of price but is there any engineering reason to pick one supermajor's fuel over another?

  10. Why post off topic if it's just to say you speed where safety restrictions are in place?

    FYI most speedos over read by 4 or 5 %. :)

    For the same reason you just did, I was picking up on a point made by a previous poster.

    Since ALL speed limits are for safety reasons, do I take it that you don't ever drive your Audi TT or "rather brisk" Fabia VRS above the limit? Presumably you regard driving 75 - 80 MPH on the motorway as excessive? :smirk:

  11. Suspension is subjective thing, depending what you drove before. Yes, it is stiffer than my previous car, but for a high SUV car, its great.

    COnsumption will go down after 2000km, but luggage box is to blame for higher consumption for sure.

    My consumption went normal after 500km, but I decided to running the engine hard right after exiting Skoda dealer.

    I used to drive a BMW 1 series with run-flat tyres and truly bone shaking suspension. The Yeti rides like an air cushioned limousine in comparison.
