  1. I have a similar spec to you, without the heated seats - doh what a mistake that was now it is winter. I don't miss anything and think the car is pretty well specced up at SE level, I just added the off road button which you have also gone for. Good shout from a number of people about the rough road pack, if you go off road which I don't.

You have to buy it separately after the car comes but I bought the Yeti boot liner from the dealer for £25 and that is definitely worth it. It fits perfectly, is well made and is a good price. I know this is an after market item but I thought it was worth giving it a shout.

Heated seats are always the first option I tick... life is too short to have a cold butt on a winter's morning!

  2. After weeks of test driving other makes, Audi, BMW, Mini and a trip to the mainland to demo a Yeti, I placed the order today.

Delivery will hopefully be sometime in March 2011 when I'll be the proud owner of a 1.8 TSi Elegance in Cappuccino, with Gobi Sand interior.

    Other options ticked;

    Heated Screen

    12 Speaker Sound System

    Carpet Mats

    Electric Drivers seat

    Annapurna Wheels

    Silver Roof rails

    Space Saver Spare Wheel

So now I face a long winter wait :'(

Nice colour / nice spec... great choice sir!!! Not many Yeti's in Jersey I bet.

  3. Coming from a Skoda, through a BMW and now on an Audi I can't agree with you at all. The Octy I had was a fine car and in many ways superior to my 123D, but Skoda is not emerging as a Premium brand. VW and Audi would never allow that to happen and it is simply not true in my opinion.

I believe Skoda has emerged as the 'man in the knows' VW/Audi, but the quality of materials used in the cabin are not as good as in the Audi. The running gear may well be all but identical, but the many differences can easily be seen. I don't believe that the Audi I own gives anything like the same value for money that my Skoda did, but it is furnished with a much higher grade of materials in many places.

Mind you it doesn't have that brilliant little perspex ticket holding clip that my Octy had :(

Skoda may not be a "premium brand", but it seems I am one of many moving away from the likes of BMW, Merc, Audi etc. on the grounds that their products are no longer sufficiently better (or in some cases aren't better at all) to justify the extra price tag. Over time I think the "premium" / "mainstream" distinction will blur as car-makers outside the German 3 catch up.

  4. My Yeti is also a WK39 build, expecting an update as to it's whereabouts this morning. It was in Grimsby at one point but seems to have reverted to Emden!.

Mine too is a Candy white 140 Elegance. It IS a Yeti that's going to get rather dirty and even some mild off roading so no Gobi sand for me - do like it though. I have also decided to stick with black roof rails as black and white contrast rather well - verdict out on that one.

Really could do with it by Friday as off to Snowdonia for the weekend to support a friend doing the Marathon. The alternative is we either go by fortwo or share our friends decrepit Lupo - which may not get there and has far less luggage space than the fortwo!

I agree about the black roof rails... I switched from silver to black when I changed paint colour from black to white...

  5. Hi All

Bought my new BMW 320d coupe m sport a year ago. It's white with red leather and has a lot of toys including i drive and sun roof.

However Ownership has not been plain sailing, the car has had dreadful rattles coming from the doors/windows and after 5 visits to a useless dealer I have had to take

advice from a BMW forum in order to get it sorted. Combine this with a hard ride and difficult driving in the winter' with rear wheel drive' I would never buy another BMW.

If I did not have another year to pay I would be looking to change.

I have seen a few Yeti's now and think they look totally awesome. I often dream about ordering a 170bhp elegance with columbus (once you have had a hard drive for music

it would be impossible to do without!) 12 speaker sound system and a sunroof. I quite fancy green with black leather. My experience with white is that it chips very easily maybe

    because metallic paint is harder.

Anyway enough of the dreams I have the BMW for another year but then I am going to get a Yeti!

Does anyone know of any new options/engines that may be coming in the next year or so?

I would also be interested to hear from Yeti owners who may have in theory downgraded from other so called premium brands!

    Thanks Michael.

My current car is similar - a 3 year old white 320i convertable with grey leather. My problem with the beemer is that it is just too big / heavy.

The new Yeti is a month or so from rolling off the production line!

It certainly says something about Skoda's image rehabilitation that we're talking about their cars and BMW's in the same breath.

  6. If someone has already mentioned it I have missed the post, but for me the most useful feature of the BiXenon lamps is the "travelling" setting that switches the lights for continental driving without the need for those horrible stick on deflector lenses. Absolutely brilliant as our Yeti is used a lot in Spain.

That's the clincher for me too, not having to fiddle about with lens converters every time we go overseas will be fab.

Per previous post, why isn't LED technology up to acting as main headlights?

  7. Looks brill. Enjoy.

Very similar spec to mine without the sunroof

    Good choice

Can't wait for mine. I'm due to get mine just before we drive up to Scotland, so I'll be running mine in then.

    Mike

It does look good, I hope you have fun getting acquainted with your new motor.

I too have ordered candy white... but with the black interior (to my taste preferable, but each to their own!).. I would have loved the sunroof though.

  8. Any recommendations? I am going with work and with the way the flights have worked out I am taking my wife. A bit of culture will be on the agenda once the work has been dealt with.

The main sites are all great - old town square, charles bridge, castle - but my advice is to wander a little, especially around Petrin Park, Mala Strana, the areas around the old town etc. The best eateries are also away from heavily touristed areas.

Stick with beer - the wine is mostly gash - Pilsner Urquell is the best but Kozel, Krakonos & Primator are all good (avoid Staropramen!). The Czechs are the largest per capita consumers of beer in the world so beer IS culture there!

  9. I was in the Czech Republic for 5 days a few weeks ago and saw a grand total of 5 Yetis including the one in Prague airport and one belonging to a security company which was festooned with dayglo stripes and flashing lights and which I thought looked rather good (though I may have been feeling the effects of the excellent Czech beer at the time).

    Phibes

I also went over to Czech for 5 days the week before last. I saw no more than a handful the whole time - which included 3 days with my wife's family near the Polish border (120 miles drive from Prague).

We were with friends, who were beginning to think the Yeti really is mythical until we saw the one in departures at the airport!

  10. Replace existing tyres with winter tyres on existing wheels - no problem

Get a set of identical wheels with winter tyres - no problem

You don't need to inform the insurance company as no modification has taken place in the above cases. Many insurers take the view that if you are asking there must be some doubt as to whether it's a modification. If in doubt - charge for it.

Spot on. Sometimes, even in the car insurance minefield, the best policy is to "ask for forgiveness, rather than ask for permission". Use your own judgement & common sense because you can be sure that the call centre staff won't.

Imagine the scenario; you have (safer) winter tyres, have an accident, and the insurer cites it as a reason not to accept a claim? Can't see it happening myself.

  11. on a UK car you cannot alter this display, due to EU regulations. These regulations state that the car must have both MPH and KMH displayed, since the speedo only has MPH on it Skoda use the central display for KMH.

The second speed option is also missing in other countries where local requirements dictate simillar to ours.

So why don't Skoda put (small) KMH graduations on the main speedo? That is how most car companies comply with these reg.s.

  12. After 3 weeks and 1000 miles in my yeti I saw my first other yeti today while driving mine.

Thankyou very much to who ever it was driving the other one in the Manchester direction for the wave and smiles from both the driver and passenger, it really made my day, can't wait to see another. :D :D ;)

We have some very good friends who live just up the road from you in Honley - will be one of my first trips when the Yeti arrives in December. Look out for a white Elegance being driven by an idiot with a very broad grin...

  13. This is what I ride. 1 man power. The engine fell off somewhere up a 25% muddy climb.emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

    post-36710-12872428884964_thumb.jpg

I sold my Triumphs ages ago, got fed up with 16 year olds trying to kill themselves whilst I was teaching them to ride. Did too many miles in a short space of time. Got most of it out of my systememoticon-0144-nod.gif. I do occasionally think about getting another one, but I never rode for fun, only work, and wouldn't do it now either. I don't drive for fun either, always has a purpose, but I can see the Yeti changing that!

    Mike

Non powered for me too - Trek 6700 w/road tyres - for my 10 mile e/w commute.

I took my CBT a few years ago and one day I will do my Direct Access!!!

  14. Hi

How do Skoda determine in what order to produce the YETI?

    By order date?

    By colour?

    By model?

By left or right hand drive?

    Availability of parts?

    Drawing lots?

    Does anybody know?

    Just curious!

Many years ago I worked for the Production Control (i.e. scheduling) department at the Nissan factory in Sunderland. I imagine that the cars will largely be built by order date, but parts availability may be a factor; e.g. if a particular engine is in short supply it will be rationed. I doubt that model / colour makes any difference; they will paint the body shells in small batches but then send them down the production line "mixed up" by colour/model (typically to balance workload). I gather that Skoda "batch" the production of RHD cars and only produce on a weekly basis (Tuesdays I have heard). I suspect that country of destination will also be a factor; some markets are less tolerant of long lead times than others!!

  15. Well today the SMMT released the UK car sales figures for September. Instead of downloading the zip file from te SMMT page just look at the detail at the bottom of this page.

Looking at that I think I finally twigged why you see so few Yetis. Of the UK market sales Skoda has only 1,63% of the market. That is tiny. So for every 1000 cars that will pass you 138 will be Fords, 126 will be Vauxhals, 73 will be Volkswagens, 47 will be Audis, 55 will be BMWs, 43 will be Mercs, 47 Nissans, 54 Pugs, 42 Renaults, 38 Citroëns and 43 Toyotas. The rest is spread about with a few each. But at roughly the same amount each you'll also see about 16 SEATs, Land Rovers, Volvos and Skodas each. And of those 16 Skodas you will of course see the whole mix of models. What that mix is I don't know but I'd guess 5 Fabias, 5 Octavias, 1 Roomster, three Superbs and two Yetis (if that)? Out of every thousand cars!!! Now I know these numbers only for this past September but I'd wager it is about right for your typical 1000 cars out there too.

Does it bother me? Not in the least. It just made me realise even more that Skoda is for the informed few and I'm going to be very, very happy driving such a scarce car!

... although year-to-date sales are around 2% of market share, similar to Mini - it certainly doesn't feel like that around here!

Skoda sales are also 10 times those of Subaru. Lies, damned lies etc. etc.

  16. Hi.

We ordered our Yeti today and have been told it will be Feb delivery. Its a shame it will take so long but i am sure it will be worth the wait. We had ordered a Mini Countryman last March to replace our Mini Clubman but we changed our mind when we saw the Countryman in the flesh. This forum has really helped me specify the car. Thanks.

Welcome and congratulations on your choice of new car. I am sure you have made the right choice selecting the Yeti over the Countryman.

As for the wait, well time does seem to slowdown after ordering...
