  1. Thanks.. I'll keep searching, maybe a trip to a breakers, although getting one off is an epic in itself. Had to destroy the bearing and use an angle grinder and chisel to remove the bearing inner off the stub axle.
  2. I contact B&M and they gave me the specific part no. for a Mk1 Fabia 1.4 16v auto, which is BM91321H.
  3. Thanks for the info. The exhaust front section worked a treat and was a simple job to fit. It's running really well and smoothly now.. Cheers.. 👍😁
  4. Hi.. Does anyone know of a supplier of the above drum backplates? Can't find any online, even good used ones would be ok, especially a n/s plate as mine is rusted out.
  5. Hi.. I need to replace my main cat as its blocked and leaking. I thought it would be a simple matter of cutting out the old one and fitting an equivalent Euro4 replacement. Problem I'm having, is that I cant find a suitable unit as the pipe is 1.75" diameter and none appear to be Euro4 anyway. So, It would seem I have to replace the front pipe section from the exhaust manifold. On my car, there is a big pre-cat can with an O2 sensor port atop it, but the replacement sections on line don't appear to have a pre-cat, nor a sensor port. Can anyone please advise me on the best way to resolve this. Cheers..
  6. Hi.. Can anyone explain the components on my brake servo pipe please? The end with the spigot goes to the servo, and the other end to the throttle body, ..but what is the other end for, next the green sticker on the table. There is a fair amount of vacuum on this pipe when I put my thumb over it and it attaches loosely to the left side of the airbox lid. Surely this would create a vacuum leak as I am having MAP issues and the motor (2006 1.4 16v) won't rev..
  7. Thanks.. My 2006 Fabia 1.4 16v, starts easily, idles smoothly and revs fine but under load goes into limp with a max 10mph. No pinking sounds.. No codes showing on a VAGCOM, but I have reset the ECU, replaced and affirmed the TB, new plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil and filter, new ATF, new coilpacks, checked on all the pipework as well as various sensors. Compression is good too. Next is the crank and cam sensors, the separator, the fuel injection relay, and maybe the fuel pump. If it's not running again after that, I don't know what I'll do, as its only got 90k miles on it, no rust and in great condition throughout. Its been a delightful car to drive these past 6 years and I really want it sorted, but so far, despite scanning and much head scratching, it's still just limping along. Just wish I could see a code! 🙁
  8. Hi.. What's the oil separator for? What does it do and could it cause my Fabia to lose power under load even though it starts easily? No codes showing, even with a VAGCOM.
  9. Thanks.. You certainly given me something to consider and try. Right now I'm dealing with a few rust issues on the Fabia. Once I'm done, I'll try out your advice and I'll post. Regards, Steve..
  10. I have tried running without an air filter, but no difference and I had a mobile service guy out with a VCDS laptop, but it didn't show any codes either. My own OBD scanner shows smooth action of the throttle body when you press the throttle. Really struggling with this problem which suddenly just happened on a dual carriageway. I'm 71 and been tinkering on cars since I was about 10, (my daily since 2004 has been an '87 Corvette that is really simple to maintain) but this Fabia's engine has me stumped, but as cheap as it is, I just can't give up on it, ..its been a great car up til now. One thing I noticed is that it's slightly better running from cold, with a max speed of about 30mph, which drops to 10mph when hot. Always it starts easily and idles smoothly, but once under load it just dies.
  11. Thanks. The Fabia is barely only worth about £400, so I'll need to rethink this one.. 🤔
  12. I do get the EPC lamp and the engine block icon, but they go off when the engine starts.
  13. Hi.. I think I may need a VCDS scanner to redo the throttle body on my 2006 Fabia 1.4 16v, after removing it to test it on the bench. What is recommended here for a reasonable cost unit? Is it downloadable to my phone?
  14. Thanks, some stuff to try. I'll measure the fuel pressure and try the exhaust advice. The exhaust was redone last year as it was leaking at the flex joint, but they re-used the original cat which I assumed would be ok with 80k miles on it. I'll check with YouTube about the VCDS throttle body thing (sounds very expensive!), but removing and refitting it had no effect on the limp mode. When I removed it, I put 12v on the DC motor and it worked well, opening and shutting the valve, still working as I reduced the voltage down to 5v..
  15. Cheers.. This engine has no EGR or MAF. I wish I could see a EML! ESC goes off when it starts.
  16. Thanks everyone.. The old plugs looked fine with brown electrodes (starts easily and idles smoothly, never to misfire even in limp), but I replaced them anyway. The airfilter is new. I haven't measured the fuel pressure, but it certainly blasts out the Schrader test point when pressed, so I'm not sure it's fuel pressure. I've tried running with the fuel cap off to no effect. I don't get any lights on the dash, nor were any codes seen on the scanners, one of which was a professional VAGCOM scanner. What is EML? When you turn on the ignition, you get an ESC lamp, but it goes away when the engine starts. What is adaptation of the throttle body? I removed it to test the action of its motor, which tested fine, opening fully. It does this in situ when you rev the engine too. Didn't have to clean it as it was spotless, checked the pipework for carbon buildup, but they are all clear. On the back of the block, there's an 'oil separation' device. Could this be the problem? There's a distinct negative pressure in the valve cover at the oil filler, which I'm told is normal on these engines.
  17. Hi.. I hope someone can suggest a remedy for my 2006 Fabia 1.4 16v (90k miles) which is stuck in limp mode. Had the car for 6 years and serviced it regularly, never had a problem til a few weeks ago when, on a dual carriageway at about 60mph, it suddenly lost power and went into limp mode. I had to put on the flashers and get it into a service yard. Not easy when the max speed was 10mph. Trailered it home to investigate, but so far, the fault eludes me.. Replaced: Plugs, coil packs, map sensor, pcv valve, coolant temperature sensor, air filter, evap valve, gearbox ATF. Checked all the vacuum pipework, no leaks obvious, pulled and tested the throttle body, ok (doesn't have a maf or egr valve). The engine always starts and idles smoothly and easily and revs up well, but dies under load when you attempt to drive it. Disconnected the battery for a few days, but this made no difference when reconnected. My OBD scanner shows no fault codes (no dash lamps) and using graphs for live data, it looks fine as regards the accelerator pedal sensor with smooth action. The cambelt is 10k miles old and still in good condition and the timing marks line up correctly. I called in a professional with a VAGCOM scanner who found no codes either on his laptop. If anyone has another untried suggestion, I'd be glad to hear it..
  18. Hi.. I have an ELM237 dongle. Could someone advise me of a good scanner app to use on my 2006 Mk1 Fabia 1.4 16v please? I also have a cable with an OBD plug and Type C plug. Is this a better way to connect to my phone?
  19. Still struggling with this low power problem Coilpacks ok Plugs ok MAP sensor new ok Coolant sensor new ok TPS smooth action to 100% on scanner graphic and percentage Throttle body bench tested ok No vacuum leaks Fuelsys1 OL cold then CL hot then OL-Drive when foot down New airfilter Fuel pressure at Schrader fine (not measured, but it blasts out hard when valve pressed Scanner says EVAP working ok Even changed out the autobox ATF. Still the car runs VERY slowly when hot, like 10-15mph max and about 30mph when cold. Foot flat to the floor even in low gears. This fault happened at about 65 on a dual carriageway, power was just suddenly lost after running normally. 90k miles and serviced every 5k. If anyone has any other suggestions, they'd be very welcome. 🤔
  20. Does this engine have an IAC valve, if so where is it located. On the upper left side of the airbox, near the dipstick, there is a tube with vacuum present that plugs into the airbox. What Is this for?
  21. Where is that located? 🤔
  22. I took off the TB and applied 12v to it, and it operated really well so I greased up the gears etc and refitted it. On my scanner, the TPS operates smoothly via displayed numbers and graphs and the TB opens and shuts as I watch and someone revs it up. However, I will be replacing the TB just for peace of mind, but despite my Autel OBD11 serving me well for years (engines and ABS) I feel that maybe a deeper looking and more powerful scanner programme might be needed now as I am really just guessing now. Tomorrow, I'll test the coilpacks and plugs so as to discount them.
  23. Maybe if I can block the pipe from the valve into the throttle body and drive it with the petrol cap removed, it might make a difference to point at an EVAP fault.. 🤔 Well, I removed the petrol cap and took off the pipe from the EVAP valve (the one that goes into the throttle body) and plugged the end of it with an artery/vein plug. I know this pipe is good as I tested it. Absolutely no difference. Once the temp needle gets to 12 o'clock, I drove it up the road and same old, same old, no power. Right now, I'm wondering if the catalytic converter is old and blocked as the original was reused when I had the exhaust fitted. Tempted to break out the death wheel and remove the cat.. 🤔
  24. Thanks.. I did wonder what that was. Need to investigate its function and effect on the running. 👍
  25. No MAF or EGR valve. Air filter is new..
