  1. I've decided to trade in my solidly reliable and lovely fabia vrs for a mint mk5 vw r32,too good to miss out on..so I'd like to say a big thankyou to Briskoda for having such an informative, very helpful and comprehensive website, that has helped me out many a time, and a big thankyou to all it's Members who, without their knowledge and experience it would not be possible.

    Many thanks,

  2. Hi mcc,i had exactly the same symptoms as you with my vrs,had the cables adjusted..better,but still a problem, then had new clutch, flywheel and release bearing fitted and was instantly better, although tbh,i can still feel a little bit of notchyness..but previously it was horrendous to get into 1st,2nd and reverse.hope this helps??

  3. hi guys, think i've got to the bottom of the gear selection problem i've been having for some time now.had the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and release bearing replaced and the gears are pretty easy to select now,and power delivery is smoother.asked my mate who did the work, about the condition of the old clutch at 125k and he said it looked ok,and that he thinks it was more likely to be the dmf that was at fault..either way i'm glad it's got rid of the problem, having had the cables adjusted, and gearbox oil replaced in the past..fingers crossed no more problems.

  4. Hi,

I've had a very intermittent problem, usually agrevated by engine / gearbox "work"', such as cam belt change, gearbox mount change etc.. Yersterday I replaced the gearbox mount, made sure everything was spot on, and I'm pretty meticulous about these things and found that the intermittent problem came back. The issue goes like this:

You can drive fine, maybe for several minutes, and come to a stop. You then attempt to change gear, usually into first. Brake, clutch pedal to the floor and you can hear the engine groaning against the brake. If you lift the brake, with the clutch pedal to the floor, the car drives. It's worth pointing out at this point I'm in gear, usually first, with the clutch pedal to the floor. It's as if the clutch doesn't dis-engage. Dropping into neutral and bouncing the clutch pedal top to bottom a couple of times appears to "resolve" the issue...

I'm going to bleed the brakes / clutch and re-set the gearbox / gear lever adjusters just in case they've slipped themselves, today.. I'll let you know how I get on.

Any one else had a similar issue, I'm guessing sticky clutch release bearing or would it be a slave hydraulic actuator issue?

    Thanks,

  5. .........but after driving my newly acquired Fabia Comfort (2002, 1.4 16v)a couple of times at night I thought my headlights on low and full beam were woefully poor in the amount of road illumination. Having looked closer today I see both (plastic!!!) headlamp lenses are misted up on the inside, presumably with condensation. Would this be the reason why I have poor illumination perhaps? If so, how difficult a job would it be to dismantle, clean/dry, and re-assemble, or how expensive to pay a garage to do the job. Is this a common problem I wonder???

Hi there,i had the same problem of headlamps misting up,so waited for drier weather, where by then they had cleared, then loosened the screws holding them in place, and apllied generous amounts of clear silicone all way round the light unit..has been perfect ever since.must have had a small hole in the seal where damp air was condensing on cold days..hope this helps.

  6. my cars done 124k,mostly motorway mileage, problem started about 3 months ago, just prior to doing the nurburgring..the poor selection problem almost drove me mad..aargh! a mechanic told me to try turning the engine off when having problems, and if it went into gear at that point, whereas previously it wouldn't,then it would be the clutch,i'm no mechanic..so trust his judgement..although i did think gear selector fork ?? anybody who's an expert,i would appreiciate your opinion.cheers.
