  1. Ok problem solved. threw myself at the mercy of the local Skoda dealership and the service guy kindly  gave me the procedure.

Yes Wino you were in the right ballpark. They use a special plastic tool but I used two old credit cards placed strategically against 2 hidden clips  , then pretty firmly prize the cluster cover away. Then remove top steering wheel and indicators cover. So will have a shot at soldering the board when this weather clears, otherwise it's over to the dealership for a new ignition barrel and chip reader coil or god forbid an ECU

    Thanks to all

  2. Just in the process of elimination  with an intermittent immobiliser fault on my 2011 1.2 petrol.

Can anyone advise how to remove the part of the dash needed to get at the screws holding the instrument pod in place, to try a "run the solder" on  the connection board.

Good vids available on fabia's and octavivia's, which look pretty easy but nothing on a Roomster which is not the same assembly... there does not seem to be any dash retaining screws visible.

    Thankyou

  3. Thanks for replies. Sourced two roomster scout shocks  through the "Micks garage" web site. dely was the next day. Shocks £79 dust cover and sleeves £32

Changed them out at 40k due to the continual wet environment they live in.

So what's the verdict.. much firmer and in control ride, but certainly not harsh in any way.

  4. My trusty standard Roomster petrol suspension gets a pretty good kicking over here on the harsh road conditions  in Northern /Ireland and i need to replace the rear shocks set shortly.

A national car factors are offering heavy duty Monroes suitable for the Scout model for nearly the same price as a standard decent quality set.

Obviously they will fit and with give me a firmer ride. What do you guys with more knowledge than me think, good idea or not ?

    Regards

  5. Hi wallabean, thanks for your comment. The only electrical connection i can see in the upper brake pedal area is on the throttle pedal which i took as a throttle sensor. Is this where you found the brake switch?. I was assuming i needed to go further up into the dash to find it and thus remove some lower dash. interested in where you found it.

  6. Well, despite taking longer than expected (life just has a habit of getting in the way of real blokey stuff such as buying a car, and the associated checking of specification, double checking it, and making sure you're really sure the options are all justifiable) I took the plunge and ordered a Scout: 2.0TDi, Anthracite, polished alloys, sunroof, bi-xenons, alcantara, heated seats, electric seat & folding mirrors, MFSW .... err ...... think that was about it.

I went through Drive the Deal as their price was £1300 cheaper than any dealer I contacted, and despite wanting to support local businesses everyone has their limit. However, the big downside is the 6 month wait but it came as no surprise and I can live with it.

It's replacing the best car I've ever owned so has a lot to live up to - 2001 A4 (last of the B5 models) 1.8T Sport quattro, 195k miles and still going, quite simply an amazing car :)
