  1. I've not attended a meet before, do we drive around in our cars or sit and talk about our cars? If it's the sitting and talking then would i be able to come in my Porsche 944 or MK3 MR2 roadster instead, the Felly is completely standard and only my run around really?
  2. after hitting a lorry i recently and to change the front wing on my felly, I'm not a great mechanic so i took it down to my local bodyshop who charged £200 for spray and fitting. The corner of my bonnet had also crumpled and he repaired and resprayed that. the spray work was blended into the door and bonnet too. all in all a Absolute first class job. Not sure if this helps but i wanted to let you know what i did because i was in the same position as you recently. Good luck
  3. i was thinking that whilst i was posting this, that perhaps the skoda forum won't be as suitable for this type of question as vw/seat clubs.
  4. Anyone bike carbed the 1.6 AEE, i don't really know what or who bike carbs are and how the work or why they improve performance, just wondering if anyone has had a go and if they saw any noticeable difference?
  5. Okay Tom I will let you know what i have purchased and you can let me know if i need anything else hopefully. 1.9d rear section 1.9d centre section universal 50mm 100 cell sports cat, 310mm long, 90mm high, 135mm wide 1.6 front pipe section Stainless manifold as recommended by Tom(i think it was) All these parts will be brand new, they are all purchased and i am awaiting delivery of the parts my only concern is the front pipe, i bought a cheap one because they cost alot more than the centre and rear, its costing me approx £50 inc delivery but being a cheap one it doesn't incorporate a flexi joint. Let me know if im likely to need extra lengths of pipe
  6. I work in the insurance market and because competitors have spent the last five years undercutting each other the bubble had to burst eventually. Average increase in premiums this year across the car insurance market is 15%, drivers under 22yrs old have seen more like 35-60% increase. Im 21yrs old and i used to own a mk3 mr2 roadster when i was nineteen. cost me £1400 insurance, i now have 2yrs more driving experience and an extra 1yr no claims bonus yet insurance on it would now cost £1620. The youngsters have been hit REALLY hard with premium increases over the last nine months. So if your like my dad is has always paid around £170 a year(we live in a good postcode) and is complaining that insurance now costs more like £210-£240 then your simply paying the going rate for insurance and your not hard done by xxx
  7. FACT The single most common cause of death for girls aged 14-18yrs in the uk is to die in a Road Traffic Collision when in a car with a male aged between 18-25yrs old! And my little sister wonders why i ban her from going out with boys older than her!!!
  8. okay understood, but are the connecting flanges the same?
  9. i can't think why anyone would need tyres wider than 185's on a felly hatchback or estate it weighs less than a ton!!!!!!!! 215's would leave it massively over rubbered and just simply ruin performance, top speed and fuel economy. would be a bit worried if someone felt the need for say 235's on a felly. it's a terribly unareodynamic and not really designed for 100mph+ speeds either.
  10. My exhaust middle and rear sections need replacing, as do my cat. i am buying the 1.9D exhaust parts because there 50mm bore not 42mm. i want to change the front pipe but can i order the deisel front pipe or is the flange that bolts to the manifol different? will it fit or do i have to get a 1.6 front pipe?
  11. my back box fell off one of my old cars once and i drove it around for a week without a back box, i kept revving the engine at the traffic lights and stuff so that i could enjoy the noise, found that the fuel consumption went down from about 40mpg to 25mpg purely cos i kept revving it, so i wouldn't go there again.
  12. January-Febuary would be when i would plan to do it. i will be attending some of the meets, so will hopefully get a chance to meet you in person before we take it any further, but ur definately within driving distance of me about 2hrs though. Your making it sound very simple now and i am very tempted, i will start to keep an eye out for the engine. Cheers Tom
  13. The mounting bracket and wiring loom, and changing the belt to a different size are all stuff a bit beyond me and i wouldn't want to pay a garage to do it because of labour cost. Reading the thread on here scared me a little as it sounded really complicated. If i had a friend that had the tools to do it i would happily supply or the parts and pay a friend say £350 to do it for me but let me watch and help. If i could do the swap including acquiring the engine and necessary parts for less than £600 i would it tomorrow, You don't happen to live in East Sussex do you Tom? p[erhaps you could help
  14. Looks like you have pretty much done what i intend to do in some form or another, i like to service my cars and change pads and discs, induction kits, strut braces but never really done any other home mechanics, such as changing manifolds or exhaust system. i might try it if i had a mate that was interested in helping me I will take it all to my local garage and ask them to 'make it work' so hopefully i don't have to worry about complications.
  15. Brilliant that list is good enough, i will start searching ebay for various go-faster bits. i will give up my search for cams, i only wished the engine revved a little higher. Any tips for power gains though! I fitted a sealed aftermarket induction kit to the car and ran the air feed to somewhere nice and cold away from the engine bay. Like all inductions kits there was a slight reduction in low end torque, but a gain in top end bhp. However with the Felicia i noticed a reduction in power all over the rev range and after three days i put the standard airbox back-on, it appears to be fairly free flowing anyway.
  16. Cheers Tom, it's just the sensor cap that goes plugs in just before the inlet manifold that i changed, i wasn't sure wheather it was a airflow meter, looks like i made a bit of a fool of myself though. Thanks for the info about the manifold, i will check ebay for one. wheather it's the cat or the manifold i have decided that i will get a whole new system, probably a 4-2-1 manifold, a cheap 200cpi sports cat 50mm bore and the rest of the system i will fit the 1.9d exhaust system as they are 50mm not 42mm so it should fit straight onto the cat and also be slightly more free flowing without the extra noise. If i do i will put some pictures and a little write up on here if it proves benefical and cheap, i think i can do it all for approx £300 if i can find someone to do the welding cheap.
  17. Just wanted to know as i am searching for possible engine parts on ebay and demon tweeks etc etc, Can anyone tell me what other VW group cars had the 1.6 engine thats in my skoda, for example i know that golfs had them in but was it mk2 mk3 mk4 golf? and What seats used them? also for stuff like cams and pulleys is the engine the same one as the 1.8 8v used in the mk3 golfs etc. I have tried to locate this information online, but have some contradicting results. Many thanks
  18. Thanks for the replies, someone at my work place said it could just be my Cat converter that has gone because that could also cause a loss of power. I have never taken a manifold off before, is there anything i should know before i do it, If it does turn out to be the cat i think i will replace the manifold anyway, is there anyone that does a cheapish, under £200 performance manifold otherwise i will source a used one, thanks for the info about the engine code AEE
  19. I was about to suggest a D5 volvo of some form as the are very pokey and when the car does break it won't break the bank like the Audi. The A6 2.7tdi is my favourite of the A6 diesels because it has the best balance of economy and performance and there are brilliant quality and well engineered. However both my uncle and grandfather have had an A6 in the past five years, one a 3.0tdi and the other a 2.0T petrol, both mechanically have been very good, suspension engine and brakes, but the electircs have been very costly to repair. a car packed with so much technology and electrics will always have little niggles which you must live with or pay way too much to repair. I haven't ever been in a D5 engined Volvo but the 4 cylinder diesels in the C30 and S40 which i have both driven have proved both economical and quite rev happy.
  20. The immature side of me would want to sabotage his car in some way; pour milk into his fuel tank or something, however writing to the police is the right thing to do, surely there must be neighbours that would be willing to support you, the greater the support and the more complaints the more the police can do.
  21. The most entertaining thread i have read in a while. I was the corsa lad for my first two years of driving(except i had the 1.2 16v a whole65bhp to play with), i had a silly noisy exhaust because it made people look at me, i drove around at **mph everywhere and in total had no less than 8 Section 59's costing me a total £815 worth of fines, i knew better than everyone else on the road especially the police and of course didn't deserve any of the section 59's or at least thats what i thought at the time. I never did have any bad crashes or ever get any points or get banned i just matured. nowadays if i drove a corsa the last thing i would want to do is put a noisy exhaust on to draw attention to myself. wierd how people change, i would like to think that at least 50% of members were that corsa lad at some point but we have just all matured.
  22. Hi all, im new, only owned my Felicia 1.6 glxi for one month, it's been great fun to drive and is a much better car to commute 20,000 miles a year to work in than a porsche 944 3.0l I was driving last night, very near the end on my 70min drive home the car suddenly felt down on power, a slight smell of exhaust gases and a different engine noise above 3500-4000 rpm. car feels like it's lost approx 20bhp bhp. Started the car this morning and it idles the same as it has always done, it revs cleanly up to the limit when in neutral too, only changes engine notes at higher rpm when under load. My only thoughts are a exhaust manifold issue? they are definate signs of a repair to the exhaust manifold, i thought it could be the exhaust manifold gasket has blown? Please anyone post if you have any ideas. It's not the air flow sensor before anyone mentions thats. cos i have two and quickly switchedx them over last night to see if it had an effect. I will admit my car is in need of a service which has been booked for the end of month, having done 13000 since it's last service, but when i purchased the car last month i put new ht leads on and checked the plugs which looked almost new. so i don't think it's related to that.
  23. Had my first skoda ever for just over a month now, a Felicia 1.6, it's the slowest car i have had in a very long time, but i am having so much fun i am getting tempted to uprate the suspension. Owning it has started to tempt me into the purchase of a mk1 golf gti, which from what i gather is the same chassis, the same engine except it has 8 more valves. Hi to all members and hopefully i will gain alot of knowledge from this forum.
