  1. So the garage did not respond to the solicitors letter.
I quote the following from the recording:

"Is this your mate with the Merc?"
    "Definitely aint got any mates"
"Nah the one with the Mario kart"
"Nah this is just a wrap (My car) that was a charity thing (Guy with Merc), This is because I think he's a paedophile"

Personally I think this says a lot more about this guy than it does me. Pretty funny when his own Facebook page has a post which says 'If you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you'. I was nothing but polite when I contacted and visited for the first time. Clearly, will not be dealing with again. Also means I lose out on the REVO sale then for a DSG map which they didn't have at the time.

  2. Oh boy. Have I got a story to tell about my experience with getting it mapped.

So much so, I'm seeing my solicitor this week about it.

As for the REVO map, so far so good, but they didn't have a DSG file for my box. However, I won't be going back for it.

Once I find out where my stand with this, I can share all.

One successful track day at Snetterton with no problems!
(Excuse the broken front lip, being replaced Monday) Partner misjudged a curb at a service station on the way back home from Scotland 🙃

Weighing up options for remapping and DSG map. Looking at OEM+, be interested to hear if anyone has used them before and had any thoughts.

    Make & Model: Skoda Octavia MK2 pre-face lift 2005

    Colour: Island green

    Mileage: 160000

Price: Breaking - Price list to follow

Description: Breaking as having replaced car with new Skoda

Still has an MOT until 22 September.

*As of right now the car is still complete and has not been stripped into parts* - 7/8/2023

Due to the number of things on the engine and gearbox, I would rather the engine go as one complete unit rather than stripping it down into parts.

    BKD 2.0 16V TDi – 02Q 6 speed gearbox

    Dyno proven 290hp/460lbft

Looking for offers round £5000 for the engine alone.

I feel that’s a fair want considering that doesn’t even cover the cost of the parts originally, only most of the labor and other bits which went on during its time at Darkside.

Engine is complete with GTB2260VK turbo at 35psi with tubular manifold and braided oil line. New AMC head to rid the porous head issue BKDs are known for with new head studs to take the upped pressure. Oil cooler installed. 120% race injectors. ECU loaded with custom map (IMMO ON) Hardcut limiter. EGR full delete/valve and cooler. Aircon delete. Huge FMIC. Hard boost pipes. Decat pipe for said GTB turbo. Decat pipe for original turbo units using V band clips. 02Q gearbox has stronger selector forks and a Quaife LSD (QDF16R) installed along with Dark sides billet single mass flywheel and clutch kit which has covered about 30k miles.

At the time of parking up, the car was running perfectly. Mapped to run with as little smoke as possible as rolling coal isn’t my thing (There is still a haze, but it’s not clouds of smoke) If driven carefully and off boost, you can expect to see upwards towards 70+mpg, if driven hard you’ll see about 40mpg.

Being honest, I have beaten on this engine once up to temp and since being at dark side it’s never let me down. Never overheated, always had oil changes early (Because modified, DS recommends earlier services, also always changed the oil after track days) The starting from hot issue was resolved by Dark side (Another common thing with BKD 2.0 engines)

The gearbox had started to leak about five months ago. I’m told this is a seal between the box and the engine block. I’ve kept an eye on the gearbox oil and topped up when needed. But I’ve not investigated this anymore, so might be the seal to the block, or it might be something else.

Sometimes selecting 2nd to 3rd can be hit or miss if you’re really pushing it such as on track. I’ve never got to the bottom of this but considering this is probably the same original gearbox the car came with; it might be overdue a rebuild and some love.

The rest of the car, plenty of parts still on it and interior bits. But due to the age, some of the rubber coating from the door handles/switches are going gummy and sticky.

Body is showing signs of rust. Underside isn’t any better.

Do have an android auto head unit, MOMO steering wheel with boss and quick release.

    Nice colour! Sleeper-esque.

I was told that the front hub spigot was too small for 11mm and 13mm spacers, I haven't measured it but it's on the to do list.

Also for you having a facelift model the rear hubs are already 19mm wider than pre-facelift so you might find 12mm at rear is a little too much.

It should sit really nicely on 25mm springs!

We shall find out in time! ;)

  7. Well, I've decided this is the end of the Darkside Octi, moving onto something more sensible. It's been great fun whilst it lasted, but the bodywork is letting it down and the rust is starting to worm it's way through the sills, inside out. As it's almost 170k miles it's done very well for all it's had and I've enjoyed every moment of it.

As no one will buy a pre-modified car, I plan to strip it and sell the decent parts, engine, ECU, turbo, 4pot brakes etc and scrap the shell.

  8. Howdy do de.

Just how simple will it be to install rear VRS brakes to a non-VRS Octi? In my mind it should be very much straight forward, but thought I'd ask, just in case, before I start spending the money! We're talking the whole sha-bang : Disks, Calipers, Pads.

Currently have FreakyParts big brake kit on the front (4 pot 345mm disks) which work *really* well, but the rears, not so much! That and they look tiny back there!
