  1. Pleasantly surprised this afternoon when my (Stirling) dealer phoned and offered to deliver car to my doorstep.

    19 weeks from order date.

Thank you very much, as it’s been strange being a totally car-less household for only 1 day.

Also awaiting phone call to say wife’s replacement Polo has arrived.

    As it’s Kodiaq number 3 I didn’t need much of a handover.

It went something like “here’s your keys, there’s the seat memory button, boot shelf is under the floor, sign here.”

And I don’t mean that in any way critical.

Very happy with the way it looks in FOC Energy Blue.  And sooooo quiet - filled up with petrol 20p cheaper than diesel.

The saving on £1,000 red paint contributed to a repeat of VC, DCC, winter pack, kick open boot lid.

A rear camera isn’t my primary means of reversing.  We (my wife) enjoys volume knob for radio.

I like the new steering wheel controls.  My hot wheel is easier to switch on than old model.

Surprised to find that KESSY unlocked the car using rear door.

Haven’t used Hankook tyres before so that will be interesting.

Unfortunately,  one of it’s first drives will be to local tip with a few builder sacks full of garden rubbish.

IF - I reach the end of this contract, I’ll have enjoyed 10 years of Kodiaq driving.

I’m a pretty tight Scot, but not mean enough to remove the old Mudflaps from the outgoing car.

I don’t mind splashing out on new online Mudflaps for the shiny new car.

    That was easy.

At a fraction of current dealer prices.

  3. Dealer confirmed that the car is with him.  19 weeks from ordering.

As my 2nd Kodiaq is departing tomorrow, I'd love the new one on Friday, but it might be Saturday.

Gotta do some paperwork tomorrow, so hope to eyeball the new blue one.

ps - I bet there isn't a cleaner 3 year old Bear in the country. Someone will be lucky.

………… 38 years later they went to the tip, along with untold carpets, mats, and other assorted never used “saves” from a lifetime of cars. I think back to all the cars that I had carpet mats in - and then covered them with rubber mats to protect them - finally selling the car with pristine carpet mats for the next owner to enjoy, when I’d endured utilitarian rubber !  Why ??
    ……..

    Mats!

Today our Polo GTI was collected by BCA at end of (extended) contract.

The original fluffy mat set was still in the original plastic pack, because I’d asked for rubber mats and mud flaps on day 1.

As the GTI cannot be fitted with mud flaps due to sill trim, the salesman gave us rubber mats and boot tray FOC.

Who uses fluffy mats in cars these days?

My incoming Kodiaq will be the third one to wear the same rubber mats.

  5. The point is - life is so easy.

    1. simply take hold of door handle, open door, climb in car, push start button.

    2. No need to fumble in pocket (or handbag) to find the fob, fiddle with right button to unlock car.  Then return to step 1.

    3. Climb out of car and simply touch door handle. Then walk away. But prefer to return to Step 2 to lock car.

Where's the down side of KESSY?  There is none.

I scoff at my relatives with Audis and Beemers - still fumbling with fobs, because the KESSY package is probably £££££.

why am i going to wait almost 6 months for my new skoda

'cos it's the standard answer when you order from factory.

I got the same when I ordered in November, but it looks like mine will arrive inside 20 weeks.

    My fingers are crossed.

  8. Indeed, it's a lottery.

I'm also hoping my car is on one of these ships, but I'm not bothering to ask dealer any more since he told me it was at Emden.

We optimistically agreed it "should" be available for collection at showroom this month.

As the current car departs on 23rd, you'll guess I'm hoping for 24th.

I’ve just noticed that on my brand new sportsline that only the drivers side wind mirror dims and that the passenger side doesn’t ? Is this correct ? You can see on the drivers side the dimming section/ wires but on the passenger side they are arent there , so wondering if they have fitted the wrong glass in the factory or if it’s meant to be like this !

    thanks

Part of the ever increasing cut backs on spec.

My incoming new Kodiaq will also be given only a driver side dimming door mirror.

It's all listed in the brochure.

    Cheapskates.

  10. As I type, my new Kodiaq is at Week 17 from order date. I’m expecting it this month.

It can take a few weeks for the dealer to see a Build week for the order.  Go look over his shoulder at his computer screen when he wakes up his order info screen.

After build is confirmed, he can see transit info, such as waiting at Emden dock, on a boat to UK, etc.

Just politely nag dealer occasionally, then sit back and enjoy the ride.

My petrol is coming much quicker than a diesel would have. I’m told.

And it includes a number of extras so I didn’t know how chip troubles are these days.

  11. Why?

Keyless has been mandatory on our cars for years.

I mock my family members running around in prestigious German cars when they have to fumble a key out of their pockets to open the door.  Even though their cars are advertised “keyless start”. And that’s all they get. Nonsense.

  12. I only pulled the parking brake on for fun in my drive one day. Walking pace.

    Not a pretty sound.

On the road, if some calamity had happened, I would happily pull it on if all else had failed.

But I’d be waiting for the rear end to possible step out of line.

  13. Stop/Start - kill it every time you start up.

Not sure how cruise control could upset a start.

I find I only have to tickle the throttle pedal to let the car creep forward from a standstill.

Or sometimes floor the Go pedal in Sport mode for a brisker take off.

I’m about to climb into my 3rd Kodiaq and have never had any snags with the stopping and starting - once you master the drive modes and use them all as appropriate.

But Stop / Start is not your friend. Spawn of the devil.

  14. Not surprisingly, the car walked through it's first MOT at my neighbourhood tyre and service emporium.   21,797 miles.

Only advisory was "brake disc worn, but not excessively offside front (inner surface)".

So not quite ready for the full set of brakes on both axles as recommended by main dealer.

I'll continue to make my own judgement.

Farewell red Bear in a few weeks.  Looking forward to a blue one.

Had my first motorway trip last week in my new Kodiaq with bog basic cruise control. I've had a vRS Octavia for 2 years prior with adaptive cruise and I really missed it.

I know it's been asked before but doesn't appear to have been answered as to can it be upgraded. Be nice if I could swap my boring cruise with the OP's clever one. 😁

    Nope.

We’re stuck with whatever the car comes with.

Some of us are happy with basic Cruise.  Some yearn for ACC.

Thanks, my dealer is a few miles away so I bought this one for £2.50 which should do the job (if not I'll send it back): https://www.amazon.co.uk/DXIA-Covers-Universal-Hexagonal-Removal/dp/B08262X3M9

A couple of years ago I bought cheap black caps online to match my winter wheel, but they were too tight on the wheel bolts.

Never used them. I think they’re still cluttering up a drawer in garage.

I just stayed with the OEM grey caps.
