  2. Carlston - Thank you for the reply. Sadly I am unaware what make of brake parts were used here on both occasions (Front and rear) but to be fair the garage I visit does not use inferior products. Given the suggestion that this problem only started after prolonged periods of wet weather and was NOT evident for several months after the rear discs and pads were changed, might this be a potential lubrication/greasing issue with something like the caliper pins ?? Thanks in advance
  3. We have owned a Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSI (Mark 3) from brand new (2015) The car currently has a below average 44,000 miles on the clock. Back in March this year the car had it's annual service and MOT. We were advised to have the rear discs and pads changed due to wear and which was duly carried out. Up to that point there was no apparent issue with the brakes. Around October (6 months on) the car started to make a squealing noise when the foot brake was applied. This only happened when the car had been running for 10 - 20 minutes (Never at the start of a journey) and then would be consistently annoying for the remainder of any given run in the car. The car went back in and the front pads were checked which still had some life left in them but given they were the original parts as well as the current mileage, we decided to change the front pads and discs as well. This was done last week and just before Christmas. We took the car for a decent run today and the same problem is back again. Research suggests that new pads do take some time to bed in but surely not 6 months as in the case of the rear pads. The only other possible contributing factor is the squealing noise only seemed to start after the onset of wetter weather and road surfaces in the late Autumn. Any helpful advice or similar past experience would be much appreciated. Thank you.
  4. Chris Price, Is the engine in your Roomster the 1.6 TDI CR by any chance? If so the injectors fitted therein around that time were Siemens Piezo which have turned out to be NOT the most reliable or long lived part of that particular engine. My son has a 1.6 Octavia with the same engine and which developed a fault issue on the third injector. The diesel specialist who did the repair claimed that his weekly work was significantly made up of injector issues relating to this specific engine. These injectors tend to fail on age rather than mileage and around 10 years tends to be the norm. The same individual also indicated that once one injector started to play up, it was invariably only a matter of quick time before the others would also become troublesome. In the end we had all four injectors changed just to give us some peace of mind but be mindful the cost is eye watering. Not good news I know but hopefully it gives you some insight.
  5. Sadly the problem same problem returned (Worse than ever) and I decided to replace the start/stop switch with a brand new mechanism. The car now starts each and every time with the slightest of pressure on the button and likewise for switching off the engine. So definitely a failing part should anyone else experience the same type of problem. I did consider the option of dismantling the switch button mechanism to clean etc and as suggested in an earlier post but in the end just went for a new part. Some peace of mind returns to Skoda ownership !!

Just as an update and no doubt only a temporary reprieve from having to bite the bullet and either dismantle to clean or replace the stop/start cartridge itself, I have noticed over the past two weeks that the car now starts first time but only if I place my finger right at the bottom of the button (Directly below the word 'Stop'.) Presumably the connectors at that point are less worn than in the centre of the button.

  8. Hi, I hope some kind soul can advise on this issue. We own a 2015 Fabia 1.2 TSI (110) which has recently clocked 40,000 miles. Generally the car has been trouble free. Within the past month or so, the car will not start by use of the Stop/Start button. Likewise it sometimes needs more than one press to switch the engine off. The car battery is good and healthy and I have also changed the battery (CR2025) in the key fob. On some days it will start with no problems and on others I am sat in the car waiting several minutes and numerous attempts to fire the engine. My guess is that the KESSY ignition cartridge may be on it's way out and will need replacement. If so is anyone able to offer the Skoda Part Number and an approximate cost for the part itself. Many thanks in advance.
  9. My son has a 2012 plate Octavia 1.6 CR TDI and which had covered an almost identical mileage when he broke down on the M6 recently. (Glow Plug light flashing and car juddered to a halt onto the hard shoulder). Diagnostic checks revealed an electrical issue with Injector No.3. We took the car to a local diesel specialist who told us he sees injector failures on the VW Audi based 1.6 diesel on a worryingly regular basis and the reason being a sub-standard Siemens Piezo injector. His considered advice was that these injectors tend in the main to fail on an age rather than mileage basis, so the fact that my son's car is now coming up to 10 years old is sadly par for the course. His experience was also when one injector starts to fail the others will follow fairly quickly thereafter. So in the end we had all four injectors changed as well as a new fuel filter. Incredibly expensive for the work done but hopefully some precious peace of mind for a few years to come. Hope this helps with your deliberations.
  10. Crasher - Agreed. By all accounts these engines were fitted with Siemens Piezo injectors and the chap who sorted out the Octavia for us said he's changing these injectors are a worryingly, regular basis. The most common 'patient' on the ward is the VW Caddy Van (1.6 CR TDI).

Some two weeks later and after much deliberation, we have now bitten on the bullet and had all four injectors changed for brand new ones along with new seals, stretch bolts etc. Also had the fuel filter changed at the same time. We did consider the re-conditioned option for the injectors but chose otherwise. The work was carried out by a local specialist garage, where the technician indicated that the failure of these injectors was invariably age more than mileage related - This particular Octavia is now just on 10 years old. Very expensive, mostly due to the extortionate cost of the injectors but at least some peace of mind for a few years to come.
  12. Presumably a hefty labour bill on top or was it something he did himself? From very brief research it seems a skilled job to change even one injector allowing for all the tolerances etc. Additionally is there a web site link for this German Refurbished Parts Site? Thanks,
  13. Thanks to all who have replied to date. UPDATE FOLLOWING DIAGNOSTICS My son has advised that this revealed a Fault Code P020300 (Injector No. 3 - Injector Circuit) The mechanic advised that given the fact my son had been able to drive an additional 60 miles after the initial Glow Plug warning with no further problems, that the car may have reset itself !! Please forgive me as this has all come third hand via my son. My supplementary question is whether this particular Fault Code is a common issue and what if anything requires immediate action. The same mechanic has provided a quote for the replacement of all four injectors at £1,600 but did in fairness elaborate that his system only allowed for a quote for all four injectors and that the replacement of the one (Injector No.3) would clearly be significantly cheaper. That said will injectors No.s 1, 2 & 4 follow suit in the not too distant future and if so it might be better to bite the bullet and get all 4 done at once. Many thanks.

  16. My son has this model with around 75,000 miles on the clock. The EGR valve was replaced by the previous owner at around 40,000 miles and my son uses Wynns Extreme Diesel cleaner in the tank at 6 monthly intervals. Whilst driving down the M6 last weekend the 'Glow Plug' warning came on the dashboard. At this point he had been driving for around an hour. This has not happened previously during his ownership. At the same time the car developed a 'juddering and lumpy' motion so as a precaution he pulled over and called out a breakdown service. The onward journey involved two separate breakdown vehicles due to the distance. The second breakdown driver advised before setting off that my son again try his vehicle and by which point the glow plug had gone off and he was able to drive the remaining 60 miles of his journey in the car with no issues. He has now booked a mobile mechanic to carry out a diagnostic check which is due later this week which hopefully will give us a specific cause. In the meantime, just wondering whether these specific circumstances resonate with any other owners out there. I have also been in touch with Wynns who confirm that the 6 monthly additive would not have caused the issue but did suggest using the specific EGR aerosol spray direct through the air intake.   17. Further to my last post, can anyone kindly advise on any experience of using the Caparo mis-fueling prevention device and as shown below. Some suggestion that the angled splines inside the fuel neck on the Octavia make full filling with this device difficult. So before I go ahead with any prospective purchase just seeking some views from anyone who may have used this item. Many thanks.
  18. Having read through this topic and recently purchased a Skoda Octavia 1.6 CR TDI (2012), can anyone suggest a mis-fueling device that would help us being victims of the same misfortune? We recently ordered a Fuel Angel that was supposed to fit but despite at least an hour of trying it would not sit properly in the aperture (Apparently the steel neck of the device was too long). This has now gone back. A few years ago there were a number of such devices on the market including 'Solo Diesel' and 'Diesel Head' but not sure what is still out there available and that will definitely fit our Octavia. Many thanks if anyone can assist.
  19. Update on last post. The Fabia went back to our local dealership earlier this week and they have now sorted the problem, with the Auto Lights working as they should and with no delay in them coming on as before. Apparently they reconfigured the original Software update to show the car has Auto Lights which was the original issue. Other than that I have no idea what they did but suffice to say the car is back as it was !!
  20. Hi there, Took my own 2015 Fabia 1.2 TSI (110 bhp) into our local dealers today for a Cam Belt change. Whilst in they also undertook a 'Software Upgrade' and like yourself we now also have the exact same problem, with the Auto Headlights taking anywhere up to 2 minutes to illuminate. The headlights will come on instantly if you use the manual function but that defeats the whole point of having Auto Headlights in the first place. I have contacted our own Dealership and await their response, advising that they may wish to contact Marshalls, Bedford who appear to have resolved the same issue for contributor 'Acateus', although sadly no elaboration in his last post as to how that was achieved.
  21. Hi johnontheroad, Sorry to hear of your ongoing problem with the build up of condensation in the driver's side headlight on the Yeti. We had the same problem with our 2015 Fabia Mk 3, again only on the one side. It has only very recently cleared up after many weeks of coming and going and I have to put it down to warmer,slightly drier weather. As per my earlier post, I took the rubber caps off both lamps on that headlight and left them off on a dry, sunny day, with the bonnet fully open as well. Thereafter, I used some strong double sides tape to affix some sizeable silica gel packets to the inside of the reattached rubber caps and to date that seems to have done the trick. That said I am not naive enough to believe the problem is completely sorted and may well re-appear again next winter when the cold weather returns. Good luck to you.
  22. The recent few days of sunshine and dry weather seem to have seen the back of the issue in the drivers side headlight on our 2015 Skoda Fabia. The unit is now completely free of any mist/condensation. The problem had been off and on for many weeks over the colder months of the winter but strangely only in the one headlight - Must check the seal around the top of the unit as that may have been part of the problem. No obvious damage to the plastic headlight cover itself. I found it better to remove the two circular rubber covers on the inside of the light unit , whilst the car was parked and allow the air to better circulate. I have also ordered some sizeable silica gel packets to attach to the inside of these rubber covers. Just wondering how everyone else is getting on with their own 'Condensation' issues?
  23. In the past 24 hours and with a slight upturn in the daily temperature, the condensation in my offside headlight has now gone. The car has not moved in the meantime so chance for passing air to blow out the water droplets through the vents. Presumably something I'll have to live with every cold winter's day.
  24. Going back to the original post and the photos shown, I am puzzled as to why only the drivers side headlight is 'Fogged' with condensation whilst the passenger side is clear. Surely the same atmospheric conditions are applicable for both lights. I have the same problem with a 2015 Skoda Fabia where only the drivers side headlight steams up. This issue only started during the recent damp/cold weather.
  25. Many thanks to all who have assisted. Have changed the battery in the main use Fob to a CR2032 and it now works. Still a little bemused how it ran for so many years on a CR2025 and which was changed to the same type of battery on a number of occasions. The spare fob still operates on the existing CR2025. One less issue to worry about - Thanks again.
